It appears that Egyptian striker Mido is just as much upset about the proposed swap deal between him and Newcastle United’s Alan Smith, as Smith himself was this morning.
Mido told the Egyptian press today he first got to know about the news in The Sun, and that Middlesbrough had not said anything about the propsed deal until today, when manager Gareth Southgate told him negotiations were ongoing.
Mido said:
“Gareth Southgate told me in the afternoon about the negotiations between the two clubs and informed me of these negotiations, something which I did not know before.”
“I’m very angry no one informed me of the ongoing talks before today, and I made sure manager Gareth Southgate knows how I feel.”
It is being reported the negotiations between the clubs are in the final stages, pending the approval of the two players. Both players moved to their current clubs for £6M in the summer of 2007, with Mido moving from Spurs and Smith from Man United.
Both have been less than successful at their new clubs.
But Alan Smith has already objected to a move to Middlesbrough, although if he is told he has no future on Tyneside, he may reconsider his position. And we don’t know if Alan will need to take a pay cut when and if he moves to The Riverside Stadium.
Alan is on £60K/week which is what he was getting at Manchester United and Newcastle agreed to match that figure 18 months ago, when they paid 6M for the striker.
The Egyptian international striker Mido added:
“Newcastle United made an offer to Boro for me, and I understand that they are very excited to see me in the squad,”
“I was informed that the negotiations between the two clubs are going on for about a week and I did not know nothing about it.”
Mido has played 48 times for Egypt, who are the current African Cup Of Nations Champions, and he’s scored 19 goals for his country, and the Egyptian striker has a history with Newcastle United fans, who have chanted racist slogans against him on two occasions in the past.
That should never have happened, and if Mido does come to Tyneside, and tries his best on the pitch, he will be welcomed at the club by the fans.
We don’t care what race or nationality Newcastle players are – as they long as they play their very best for the club.
Mido shoudn’t worry too much about the racial thing, which has to be stamped out of football altogether, and the sooner the better. However, we can appreciate he may have some concerns on this.
Mido’s form has been inconsistent over the last couple of seasons, but he has shown in his career he has the skill and ability, and if Joe Kinnear can get the very best out of him, he could be more than a reasonable acquisition for Newcastle, but we’ll have to wait and see if the deal goes through first.
But this story seems to be true.

Comment #563It’s certainly a gamble when signing a player like Mido. He is definately talented and with all the skills required to be a top player. The problem with him is, peehaps like many have stated here, injury and attitude.
However, considering the transfer badget we have got, none according to varies reports, he is perhaps the best bet for us.
Smith is doing nothing for us and why not try swaping him with someone who possibly could?
We have got nothing to lose.

Comment #564Whoever leaves the club this window or when ever, the sad news is the players who have indicated (in there own way) they want to leave :
Geremi
Given
Zog
Owen
3 of the 4 are some of our most talented players.
We have all read comments from both Ashley and JFK that Newcastle United are in a healthy position financially, as we have no debt.
Ashley also stated he was willing to pump in 20 million a season, which was never reached in the summer.
Which begs the question, why when a quater of the window gone are we being linked with no-ones, with nothing aparent on the horizon and our top stars all lining up to leave.
Something is not right.
Ashley NEEDS to talk to us. How many times have fans said that this season.
I what Ashley or Llambias to speak with the fans. I like Joe but it is clear he is NOT in the picture, as much of what he says gets contradicted.

Comment #565Looks like Zog will definitely be leaving! He reckons Villa and Spurs are in for him, but he’s holding out for the Gunners! I hope to God that WE hold out for a decent price for a kid who will be worth a LOT of money in a few years time.

Comment #567Who the F**K does zogs think he is? Ronaldo? Twat!!! We dont want you here or need you here! I say now is the perfect time to swap him for bent. This makes sense for 2 reasons 1) We get rid of a lil prick that is surely causing problems in dressing room 2) We get Owens replacement in for when he leaves in summer. This will not happen tho as nothing this regime does makes sense! We’ll sell Zog & Joe wont get the money Sports direct will. I wonder how much more of this crap even Joe can take? mind you it could be worse we could be West Ham, they could be first ever prem club to go bust!

Comment #569Morning Guys, anyone remember the quote from Joe a couple of weeks ago
“January will be hectic on and off the field. We need to address that situation immediately, and that’s the message I am getting across to Mike Ashley and the board of directors.”
They must have really taken his point on board….I also agree with Wigaz on how much more of this BS Joe can take.

Comment #573Chizzy i can see him walkin as well you know. Especially if he gets sweet FA to strenghten the side this month which is what is lookin like happening more & more everyday. I think he’s done enough under the circumstances to show he’s capable of managing again at the highest level which means he wont be short of job ops. Oh how i wish that fat twat had sold to abu dabi. I can describe how much i hate him.

Comment #574todd- appiah will be announced at lunchtime with our new no 2 goalkeeper. Appiah has signed till the end of the season and we have the option to extend it if he does well. He could even be on the bench on sunday due to injuries.

BBC Radio 5 this morning carried an interview with the banker, Keith Harris of Seymour Pierce who had been appointed by Mike Ashley to broker the sale of Newcastle United. Harris gave details of a deal with a buyer based in the USA who had made an offer for the club which was described as a “good offer” and the sale was proceeding. However, the sale had been scuppered by the alleged fraud involving billions of dollars which currently involves a gadgie called Madoff who is facing charges and is under house arrest.
Having potentially lost a few hundred million dollars + the buyer is said to have taken fright and buying NUFC was no longer a priority for him.

Comment #578What’s all this BS about JK walking? He’s going nowhere. This is the best job he’s every had in football and he knows it.
Joe seems to me like he’s a fighter and willing to take the rough with the smooth. Those sort of people don’t walk.

Comment #579magpie1 – just watch the people on this board go mental if barton is sold. Look out for the exact same people who were saying he is a disgrace and should be playing for the club and how the board are mugs for keeping him, now saying that the board are useless and shouldn’t have let one of our better players go.

Comment #581yer I know what you mean, I have always liked him and was willing to give him a second chance which is why its bloody silly selling him now after paying his wages and getting crap in the press.but you got to think what david craig was saying might be true, we know for a fact these players want to leave but are not geting linked with any one new, so there could be a influx of new players soon

Comment #584magpie1 .. barton for M’Bia would be good business .. who knows .. there are some quality CM’s available for around 8 mill .. would rather them than barton .. but we’ve not seen the real Barton yet and agreed he will come good .. we need him right now.

Comment #586When Barton played we looked a much better team. He does have a talent, but he seems to be a nasty individual.
A bit like Steve Gerrard and Lee Bowyer(in his Leeds days) Good football players who are an asset to the team, but seem like horrible people in real life.

Comment #589On Man City – Does anyone else think that the Man City owners may just be thinking that they bought the wrong team. They probably had dreams of buying Messi, kaka, etc.. and who does Hughes go for? Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy! Hardly players that set the footballing world on fire.
It just goes to show that money is not the be all and end all with footballers and the real stars will only ever play for the real big teams in the world. Robhino was a fluke because he is a greedy bugger.

Comment #591I was in two minds over Barton and took the opinion that if we helped him clean his act up and become a nicer kid (maybe I was kidding myself somewhat) it was the right thing to do. However, having made that choice I remember saying I’d be totally perplexed if we went through the pain of justifying letting him off only to then flog him. In which case we’d lose an important player (maybe one of the more influential for the future) for a knock-down price and still we’d be pilloried for cashing in on him regardless of the price. That’s why it’s a no-win to sell Barton. I don’t think we will and I have a feeling he also seems like the sort of kid who might have finally decided he has a point to prove and some loyalty to repay.

Comment #594Would be very excited to see Mido pull on the Toon shirt. A very exciting and talented footballer, if he could regain his focus and have a run of games he could be a very good player for us. Straight for Smith would be an excellent deal for the club.

Mido in Smith out VERY EXITING
If we do a straight swap we are getting a player who at least gives you 5-10 good games in a season, losing one that has no purpose at all.
Good deal
