Newcastle Trying To Beat Blackburn To Marseilles’ Gaël Givert

The Daily Mirror is reporting this morning that Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is trying to hijack Marseilles defender Gaël Givet’s move to Blackburn Rovers.

Gaël Givet – defender played for France 13 times

Givet is currently unsettled at Marseilles and the former Monaco player has been invited to join Blackburn Rovers and Sam Allardyce on trial.

Marseilles are willing to let the Frenchman go out on loan in January, with a view to a permanent move in the summer.

That deal was all moving ahead at Blackburn, until Newcastle stepped in and have told Marseilles they are willing to take the Arles, France born player on loan immediately, without giving him a trial first.

Givet stand 5’11” tall and played 234 times at Monaco with 9 goals before joining Marseilles in 2007, and has so far played around 40 times for Marseilles.

Gaël can play left back or center-back and will no doubt be bought to challenge Jose Enrique for the left back spot at Newcastle.  Right back Habib Beye, who is out injured for at least 8 weeks with a knee injury, also arrived from Marseilles in late August, 2007, when Sam Allardyce was then manager of Newcastle.

After playing his football at Monaco and Marseilles, the 13 times capped French International will  no doubt love the weather on Tyneside or Blackburn, that’s for sure. 😀

Comments very welcome.

Take him on loan ‘without a trial’ ???

So stump up his wages then find out if he’s worth them?

Is that what we did with Xisco?

(To be fair to Xisco, never seen him play but if we’re this strapped for players and he doesn’t even make the bench…)

He used to be the shit at Monaco but i haven’t seen him play in a while. But i think he’s more of a CB then a LB, same as Burdisso, but Givet must be better then him cause Burdisso is horrible.

our club is a joke, we are aiming for crap players all the time. i think that jfk will walk this window as ashley is doing the same with him as he did with kk. lying to him about funds and now the window is here, nothing is being given at all. jfk has told sky sports that our midfield is in a desperate state and that he has told ashley this too – just seems that ashley does not care – just keep on selling mike!!

No, Xisco we signed for £6m with half of the Milner fee. And we also signed Gonzalez. But to be fair to Dennis Wise, they both played 2 games each before we send them on and take a huge loss after half a season.

Anyone think that KK was justified in walking out?

So Blackburn Rovers want to give him a trial first, but we don’t? Sounds like we’re getting desperate.

Is it worth trying to get wow signings or padding out our existing (injury prone) team with some squad players?

None of the players we’re linked are JK’s choice(except Ferguson)
I’m also wondering if JK had a list in the first place…….they’re all DW choice of players, but publicly stated they’re JK’s.

Nothing has changed since the Summer i’m afraid.

Again I will say you don’t have to spend a fortune to find a good player. Maybe he could be just the kind of player we need, I do remember him being good at Monaco.

He is obviously not in the team because of Taiwo mainly. Would be a good squad player and will probably surprise a few of you.

Getting a player on loan is not like signing them for a fee (unless a small fee is involved) we can always send him back if he get’s a long term injury or we don’t feel he’s good enough. BUT you need to stop this negativity just because he isn’t worth 10 million, sometimes players lose their way. They have plenty of talent and just need to find a club that values them and fits the character of the player. In other words they just need a chance to prove themselves.

I feel like banging my head against a large brick wall sometimes..

Also Sam has just gone to Blackburn and probably hasn’t been watching Givert. We might have been watching him for a while or have watched him in the past, sometimes you just know a good player when you see one.

Again would be a good signing.

He’s 27/28. 27 according to Sky Sports but whether that’s been updated in the last year I don’t know.

He hasn’t even reached his prime yet!

Partizan it really annoys me that our scouting system seems to be so poor. You and Tom Toon and Mark E regularly come on here with great suggestions for people in the eastern bloc countries and further afield, but I doubt if our joke of a manager has even heard of half of them.

from SBR to the ex Wimbledon boss – how desperately sad

Givet slow? No way, he’s a very quick defender. I’m a bit worried about his size, but he’s not a bad defender.

For a decent price Givet would be a great buy.

This is getting laughable now! We should be looking at British players in the Championship if we are limited on funds. There are many good players to be had from the Championship who know how to defend, are used to English conditions and appreciate the history and passion of the Toon. Add in some of our encouraging youngsters and we can at least consolidate a mid table position for this season.

At the end of the season we can re-evaluate the Manager, players and maybe get a good owner.

It is the definition of madness making the same mistakes and expecting a different outcome! old past their best players from outside of the English leagues does not work!!!

To be honest if we can get him on loan, then great !

No fee (except wages) and we can have a good look at him.

If he covers LB and CB happy days.

What do we have to lose?

If CR7 decides to stay in Man Utd…..then he’ll go to Real

Nick what the hell are you going on about have you any clue. you have absalutely no justification for saying why arnt we HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW WE ARNT!!!!! its the easiest thing in the world to recomend a player off football manager or champ manager, or a plater who has been in the paper who MITE be available. when newcastle signed xisco i know that he will have been watched by at least 2 scouts and may be dw and those 2 scouts will have to fill in forms about this player like you wouldnt belive the detail they go into. yes fair enough he hasnt really been up to it but what am trying to get at is these players arnt just pluked out of the air. as for you saying we should go look for unknown players in other countries am 110% behind that so everyone who hates dw leave him alone and let him go do that!!!!

If you have a problem with people who know players outside the EPL……don’t judge them with the Football Manager s..t.

If we signed Givet, I’d play him in central midfield before Barry ‘Backpass’ Ferguson.
