The Daily Mirror is reporting this morning that Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is trying to hijack Marseilles defender Gaël Givet’s move to Blackburn Rovers.
Gaël Givet – defender played for France 13 times
Givet is currently unsettled at Marseilles and the former Monaco player has been invited to join Blackburn Rovers and Sam Allardyce on trial.
Marseilles are willing to let the Frenchman go out on loan in January, with a view to a permanent move in the summer.
That deal was all moving ahead at Blackburn, until Newcastle stepped in and have told Marseilles they are willing to take the Arles, France born player on loan immediately, without giving him a trial first.
Givet stand 5’11” tall and played 234 times at Monaco with 9 goals before joining Marseilles in 2007, and has so far played around 40 times for Marseilles.
Gaël can play left back or center-back and will no doubt be bought to challenge Jose Enrique for the left back spot at Newcastle. Right back Habib Beye, who is out injured for at least 8 weeks with a knee injury, also arrived from Marseilles in late August, 2007, when Sam Allardyce was then manager of Newcastle.
After playing his football at Monaco and Marseilles, the 13 times capped French International will no doubt love the weather on Tyneside or Blackburn, that’s for sure. 😀
