Joe Kinnear has come out today and said he is less than worried about Michael Owen’s goal drought right now.
Michael Owen – hasn’t scored in his last 4 games
The Newcastle United striker has gone four games without scoring, but in the first 20- minutes at the KC Stadium last Saturday, he could so easily have had a couple of goals, and put Newcastle in a great position to go through to the next round.
He was there for the chances, but only just missed in both cases, and on another day he would have converted both of them.
However , Joe Kinnear is not worried at all about Michael’s lack of goals, and is convinced the 29-year-old will soon start putting the ball in the back of the net again for the Magpies.
Newcastle have another important 6 pointer in the league on Saturday, when we take on West Ham, who are 3 points above us, and who have gone 5 games away from home without defeat – so that record is obviously due to be broken on Saturday. 😀
Joe said today:
“Michael did very well for us at Hull in a game that we could have won,”
“He got into some great positions and linked up well with Andy Carroll in our attack.”
“That’s all you can ask from your strikers – that they get into those positions.”
“Michael is a world-class striker – some weeks strikers score, and some weeks they don’t.”
Owen is top scorer with 9 goals this season, but with Martins and Viduka both out, the goal scoring is really down to Michael, although it wouldn’t surprise us in the least if 20 year-old local lad Andy Carroll gets his first senior goal for Newcastle on Saturday.
In fact the form of Andy will be one of the things that will be important for us against the Hammers, and the youngster, who is an England Under-19 regular, now has an excellent opportunity to show us just what he can do for his home town side.
We don’t think he will let himself or the fans down on Saturday, after his more than encouraging display last week.

Comment #42I agree Craig, Martins, Krul, Taylor, Jonas etc need their contracts lengthening keep the security in the team.
Hope that Mido story is true, that way we wont all be sitting watching good strikers go next summer and then listen to striker links in scottish teams.

Comment #43i just dont like mido, he has a natural eye but he looks like a right pain in the arse and also carries attitude. i would prefer to go for your favorite one at sunderland than mido. really though, i dont think that even with viduka and owen leaving that we should be buying forwards. we will still have martins, ameobi, carroll and a fit smith plus i want to see some of the young bloodd coming in, where is arron spear – i want to see his head pop up next season. what we are lacking is the midfield – it is proper shit. we need two seriously good midfielders coming in to our squad, not squad guys but dogs bollocks players to come straight in and grab the game by the balls, gattuso type. we also need a versatile winger who can go right left as zogs is up his arse again at best and at worst he is leaving. all we have is duff and jonas – again, nothing. milner would have been great as he is left or right.

Comment #45On the issue of buying strikers I don’t know why the toon aren’t looking at Kris Boyd. He’s worth a gamble. I’ve watched him a few times and he’s the one player I’ve seen at Rangers that I actually rate. And they never play him! I’m sure he’d walk from Glasgow to Newcastle rather than play in Birmingham!
On Aaron Spear – I think it’ll be 2 years before he makes an appearance.

Comment #47craig chisholm – hmmm..maybe not then. We’ve has been used for our cash before.
Boyd would be a gamble. I wouldn’t offer him much until he’d proved himself in England.

Comment #49I don’t want Zog to leave, but if he did Turan would be ideal!

Comment #50craig chisholm – of course we need striker with Viduka and Owen leaving! Martins is our only other decent one.
I really want Mido and he has confirmed we have been in talks for a week with Boro.
If Zog left I’d play Jonas on the left and get Beerens or Blaszczykowski to play on the right.

Comment #51Lets get this straight, my type of striker choice would be Cisse, but this lot arent going to spend money, so Smith one way and Mido back is good enough for me, I reckon Mido will use us to get somewhere else but I do not care, if he tries his best plays well and scores goals then leaves at the end of next season and we turn a profit or get Smith’s money back then it was a good deal, Mido is out to rebuild his career and is on his last chance club not to cause trouble.
Smith has a brilliant attitude but it isnt working for him here, it is a real shame because if he could score goals we couldnt wish for a better attitude player alongside Martins.
Only because Southgate likes Smith so much has this opportunity come up, we should grab it.

Comment #52tom toon, we need people in every dept but i think that our mid field is shocking, worse than attack. you cant put viduka into your equation aobut leaving cos he never ever plays. as far as i am concerned, when he goes it is good news. great natural ability but the man is shagged.

Comment #53About XISCO: what exactly is it that makes so many of you think he’s a good choice to start?
He refuses to play for the reserves, which shows a rubbish attitude, which is why he doesn’t get a start. Carroll jumps in to give his all in whatever the bosses ask him to do. That’s why he gets the starts and Xisco gets shipped out ASAP.
