Guthrie Beats Flu And Is Fit To Face West Ham

Very good news today for manager Joe Kinnear and Newcastle fans in that Danny Guthrie will be fit for tomorrow’s home game against West Ham United.

Danny Guthrie – fit to face West Ham tomorrow – great!

The 21-year-old midfielder, signed from Liverpool in the summer and who is quietly making a name for himself on Tyneside, had been rated doubtful with the flu bug, to face West Ham and missed training earlier in the week.

But good news today as Guthrie told the official Newcastle web site today that he is fit for tomorrow’s game, and is all ready to take on the Londoners tomorrow:

“I’m fine and looking forward to the game,” “We need to get back to winning ways and this is a great chance to do so.”

“We were happy with the draw at Hull and also the clean sheet and this is a chance to build on that.”

With Nicky Butt suspended it was important to have Danny fir for tomorrow, and he will likely partner Geremi in central midfield for the game tomorrow.

It’s an important game (isn’t every game important these days), and we need to take all 3 points off the Hammers, who are 3 points ahead of us in the league and a win will just take us above them in the league by 5:00 pm tomorrow afternoon.

A one goal win will give us the same points and goal difference as the Hammers, but we will have scored more goals than them.

Sounds good to us.

Comments welcome.

It just shows how far we have fallen when our best midfielder is sub standard at best and were all hoping he gets fit to play West Ham!

Another smokescreen non-story to make people forget about the paucity of options available.

What in the name of Jesus H Christ’s sake is this uber-annoying fascination by what are probably spotty 13 or 14 year olds, to type “1st” on every page??!! Its soooo annoying.

I just hope cooldj isn’t anything over 16 year old, because if he is, then I think he needs to get out more!

Guthrie playing is a plus, he isn’t a world beater. But he has done OK. I would play him with Geremi in the middle. I wouldn’t start with the Zog. Let him sit in the stands.

    Hear ye hear ye!

I’ve brought more news from the Turkish media regarding nufc during this transfer period.

The article is titled “Geremi gives the green light”. I’ll just quickly translate it:

“Geremi, who has previous experience in clubs such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Middlesbrough has only been able to play 12 matches this season. He has been reported to be unhappy with his current situation saying “I want to play. I’m already near the end of my career and I don’t want to be sidelined anymore. There has been an offer for me from a European club and I’m going to take it into consideration. The most important thing for me is to have the chance to play. If Newcastle refuses to offer me that chance, then they must find a solution that would be the best for me”. When asked “Is this team Besiktas?” he replied “yes”.

Well this sort of sounds like tabloid rumour to me but there have been previous stuff being mentioned about Besiktas and Geremi. Let’s see what happens. Besiktas are really stocking up on 32+ year old players these days, so it’ll just add to my amusement if they get him as well =D But offloading him might lift some burdens from your shoulders cuz of his wage and how efficient he is in accordance with that.

Fun fact: Did you know Geremi scored 0 goals during his stay at Real Madrid?

West ham have som e decent young midfielders the likes of which we should be going after – Noble and Collison for example.
Guthrie will have a tough game no matter who his partner is. Although, as he reckons he is Arsenal material, perhaps N’Zog will give us a demonstration in his preferred position of centre-midfield. Joe should tell him his proposed transfer hinges on 3 points and a MOTM performance. If not he can ha’ad his gob until his brand new contract runs down.

Guthrie has ben a solid performer for us so far and has had one or two excellent games (pompey/wigan)…Right now he is the best available for us and lets hope he can put in a battling performance tomorrow!

Todd….Bassong has served his one match ban for a professional fould against liverpool; hence our hammering! Also….why waste your time in stating that xisco should play tomorrow when JK has publicly said carroll will start next trwo games? Xisco is terrible!!!! I was at west ham earlier in the season when he started and we would really have been better off playing with 10 men…he was like a lost little boy! although Carroll isnt the best option in the world he is a lot safer than “Misco”!

Lets all get behind big andy tomorrow and i submit this wholeheartedly to all…..”DO NOT CHEER NZOGBIA…HE IS NOT FIT TO WEAR THE SHIRT”

With it being a professional foul it is only a one game ban. It is three games for violent conduct (which can be interpreted as really bad challenges)…

fair points, and guthrie deserves respect, he gets lost in games on occasions, but seems to step up when the games their for the taking. not sold on carroll. then again hes 20 and it’s his 3rd game.

i was at the chelsea home game when he came on and looked good for the last 10m mins.

And what in the name of Jesus H. Christ’s sake is this uber-annoying fascination by what are probably spotty 13 or 14 year olds to completely misuse the German word “über” as a prefix for virtually everything and write “soooo” instead of “so”?

The papers are saying that we’re looking for £6.5 mill for Barton. That’s madness if we sell Barton i’ll lose the plot we’re so week in that area and he’s our best CM.

As for Guthrie ..good news .. probably our best CM at the minute .. don’t rate his tackling but he is excellent at short passing and keeping the ball.
