Gateshead-born striker Andy Carroll makes his first start at St.James’ Park, as expected, and and will partner captain Michael Owen in attack.
Geremi replaces the suspended Nicky Butt in the center of midfield, as expected and Jonas Gutierrez retains his place on the left wing, even after Charles N’Zogbia passed a fitness test on Friday, after suffering from a dead leg during last Saturday’s draw at Hull City.
Youngsters Tamas Kadar, Ryan Donaldson, Xisco, Edgar, N’Zogbia and Kazenga LuaLua are all on the bench for Newcastle, along with goalkeeper Steve Harper.
For West Ham, former Newcastle players Scott Parker and Craig Bellamy start, but there is no place even on the bench, for Kieron Dyer, who returned from a broken leg last week and played for 30 minutes

Comment #42spidey is having a great game by the sounds of things. WH just missed a great chance, noble forced a save from Given and Bellamy has put the rebound into the side netting.

Comment #60The one thing i’ve liked so far is the fact that we seem to be pressurising WH alot more when they have the ball. Against pool we were sitting off and letting them pass it, we’ve tried to pressure them in the center of the field and its been working so far. we’ve also been unlucky with chances, Owen has hit the post in a lovely move, Carroll should have done better with his header at the far post. A penalty shout but i havent seen it yet and there wasnt too much fuss made.

Comment #71What did bellers do when he celebrated? 5 live said they thought it might have been a gesture to one individual but after speaking to the motd lot he apparently was just showing his happyness at silencing the crowd?..
He’s having a good laugh with Given though. Bassong is incredibly lucky there, thats a blatant foul on bellamy in the box.
