Man City Bid £3M For Given – Newcastle Furious At Offer

Manchester City have made a £3M offer for Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given, which has been described by the club as laughable.

shay-given-675

Shay Given – £3M from Man City offer is laughable

Shay Given may also feel the offer is a derogatory one, given he is world class and still has a good 5 years left at the top level.

And of course Man City are the richest club in the world and are backed by Multi-Billionaire Arabs, who seem not too shy about spending money, unlike some other owners.

A senior Newcastle source told the Newcastle Journal this morning:

“We received a bid for Shay in writing from Manchester City and we dismissed it out of hand.”

“It was for between three and four million pounds, which is laughable really when you consider we are talking about the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.”

Newcastle seem unhappy about the low bid, and Joe Kinnear was also aware of the bid when he was contacted by the Journal last night at his Jesmond Dene home.

However, the bad news for Newcastle fans is that City have made an initial offer, and will no doubt follow it up with one or two improved bids, so we could still see Shay leave the club in January.

But Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear is hardly willing to sell his star goalkeeper and said last night:

“I’ve remained consistent on this matter all the way through. I do not want to lose any of my best players and Shay is one of those.”

“I’m far more interested in who we are trying to bring in to strengthen the squad.”

“It’s unhelpful to say the least at the moment to have agents trying to unsettle my players. “

This will not be the last of the Given affair but we think it will take a double figure bid to tempt Newcastle to part with their top goalkeeper, but we’d like him to stay on Tyneside.

Good news today in the Journal is that Newcastle will make their first signing early next week when the club will sign Peter Lovenkrands, a speedy winger from Denmark, who you may remember was signing for Newcastle back in 2000, before he suddenly ended up at Glasgow Rangers.

I really hope that… he would stay to at least in the summer so that it would be beeter for both parties.. even Sir Bobby Robson commented that it’s the best and gents way… I’m pretty sure, if Shay is playing till the summer, we’ll still be in the PL… plus, we might even get a few good players coming in as Shay is still at NUFC….

Three million is extracting the urine obviously. It is a contemptuous offer. Anyway, even if Man City offer 30 million the answer is bugger off. We must keep Shay at all costs. Really Shay – do you want to go to a club that values you so lightly compared to your Toon Army faithful? It seems that Lovenkrands is actually on his way to NUFC, but what happened about Ferguson and Riise? Any more about the Zog on the Tyne?

Peter Løvenkrands? You have got to be kidding. He is not even good enough to be attached to a club. But apparently he is Newcastle material.

You said something about quality players?

If people have been reading any posts of mine recently then they are by that idiot again. dingo†® i see you were fooled by it before, i would never say that Owen has potential to fulfill. Get it sorted Ed or else I’ll be gone with quite a few others who are getting sick of this.

Tim Krul, Tomas Kadar, Tresmono Lua Lua and Nile Ranger are the way forward!!! Take as much as we can get for Owen and Smith and Viduka and all other ridiculously high earners who don’t earn there money. As for Shay he has shown us loyalty so he can accept his final big pay cheque and hopefully win something that he so deserves. A big transfer fee would benefit us and Shay. Given is a legend and whatever happens with his future we love him! He will always be our greatest ever goalkeeper.

valle i would say that to them, until they come in with a ridiculous offer

we need strengthening elsewhere therefore we could do with as much money as possible

i for one will not be angry at big joe for ‘lying’ to us if he goes, he isjust being savvy to ensure he gets the best deal for his players going out the door which is barely done at newcastle compared to teams like deportivo who rip everyone off

Tell Man City to F**k off and why are we trying to sign Rangers players old and new. Not one of them are worthy of playing in the premier, in fact most of them couldn’t hack it in the championship.

Mark hughes is a legend, makes joke offers for decent players and vastly over values the likes of Santa Cruz, Given is worth at least 3.75 million. 😉

Is this the same Peter Løvenkrands that barely did anything at Rangers? And has pretty much been dropped by Schalke 04?

Wow, fetch the boy a pen and a contract before someone else unearths this gem!

3 mil for given – shut up and go home you manc fools.

What a rubbish offer. I would think Joe Hart is worth that alone.

Cant see Given going anywhere though.

    No ZOG strories today eh?

Looks like Benitez had too much time to think in hospital. He is right to a certain degree.

Geordie69 I totally agree but the only thing that worries me is if all the so called star players leave it might send out the wrong message to the younger lads and they might think the club is not showing any ambition and will want to leave as well.

if we do end up selling shay, which is something i don’t want no matter how much money they offer.
please don’t go buying any of the keepers we’ve been linked with and just give harper what he’s asking for in wages .
the lad deserves to be given the chance to replace shay after the patience and loyalty he’s shown the club and we have some good young keepers in reserve to .
spend the money on outfield players that’s where it’s needed.
come on lads 3 points today though is what we really want

Any signing during the window is a plus as JK is saying, ‘we do not have enough players, a paper thin squad, light on the training lads, don’t get injured’ and why not, bring the wages down and run the club on a sustainable footing unlike the chelskis, mancs, scousers if rock solid debts, Liverpool owners have just been given an extension to repay their loan, what a position to be in. NO TO DEBT

Just done a search on Peter Lovenkrands. Centre forward or plays on the left.

I dont think who we sign is not gonna come without critisism.

If signed I will let the lads convince my opinion on the way he plays on the pitch. Open minded and all that.

Not gonna call anyone til Ive seen how good / crap he is. Beggars cant choosers and all that!

this is a good offer lads, in that i mean that given himself should be outraged that he has been valued so low by man city. i think that all it takes is a couple of wins to put us in the top ten and lets say about two quality signings minimum and he will be ok again. besides, the two clubs that want him – spurs and city – they are no better than us in terms of performance this season, it would not be an improved move for shay, meerely a sideways move. he may stay, lets wait and see. i think that if it had been arse he’d have been off, not these other two teams.
all jiking aside though, most people that have wanted to leave us have not really gone on to better things appart from andy cole of course. so when i see zogs dripping, i think of his other feench lewft sided compatriots – who were much better than him, roberts and of course the magnificent ginola. both of them were whinging twats and when they left they both regretted it. we should also look at oliver bernard, our frog left back, great player, whinging twat, left and wanted to come back and admitted it was a massive mistake. i want zogs to leave and i want him to end up like his other 3 left sided frogs, regretting it.

The worrying thing is the role of the Dwarf in this matter. Will Wise say to Shay that NUFC have had an offer and then say to Man City that he will listen to double the bid? I can see Shay being screwed out of the door for peanuts and loyal Harper (just as good really) being shafted as well with some crap replacement chosen by Wise. Not a good scenario at all.

£3million and you can have Elano, Vassell, Ball and Hamann LOL.

Honestly though, the article mentions the “best goalkeeper in the PL”. Sorry, didn’t realise we were bidding for Petr Cech, in which case a £15m bid would be justified. If any other club besides us came in for given you’ld ask for £8m, and be happy to walk away with £6m (OK, maybe not happy!) But oh no, it’s the richest club in the world, so we want £15m.

    Who’s taking th p155 now?

3 mill does seem low, i wonder if it was made to force the hand of buffons agent? it certainly seems like an offer designed to p&*s off all concerned…or maybe the arabs are just stalling on buying to many players until mourinho arrives!!! that would make sense…

We have a lot of quality keepers at the club.
