Newcastle Reported To Be Signing Belgium Winger

There are reports in Spain that Newcastle United have enquired about former Ajax winger, 22 year-old  Tom De Mul.

Tom De Mul – Sevilla right winger available?

De Mul is a 22-year-old Belgian who seems to have had an awful time of it since moving to Sevilla. He was at Ajax from 2003-2007 and in the 2005-2006 season was sent to Vitesse on loan, where he played 27 times and scored 2 goals for the Dutch club.

He played a total of 36 games for Ajax with 5 goals before moving to Sevilla in 2007, where he has played very few times for the Spanish side.

Tom stands 5’10” tall and has played a couple of times for Belgium, but his career seems to have stagnated in Spain, and the reports suggest Newcastle may be willing to bring him to Tyneside.

It seems that Newcastle United have now emerged as the front-runners to land the right winger, and the fee is reported as £3.5M, but that seems a little high but the reports suggest that he could join Newcastle as soon as this coming week.

Exactly where we will get £3.5M from of course is another question, since we haven’t sold any of players yet.

But this report says that Newcastle have already lost out to Rangers in the hunt for Danish winger Peter Løvenkrands, and we’re not sure that ius true, since Rangers are trying to reduce their wage bill and presumably will be looking to offload players in January.

De Mul was a good player while at Ajax, but his career has slumped significantly in Spain, and presumably Kinnear and Wise think he’s good enough to play for Newcastle.

But it’s unlikely Newcastle will sign both Lovenkrands and De Mul, so maybe we’ll get one of these in next week.

Comments welcome.

Sounds like more paper trash to me, but I suppose one of the papers somewhere in the world has to be right. I just hope we get someone in early next week so we can all relax a little bit. The longer the club leave it without getting anyone in, the more worked up we will all get…

I don’t think De Mul will sign especially when we can get Lovenkrands on a freebie. I hope the Raul Meireles link is true. Being reported in the NOTW so won’t get my hopes up to high 🙂

Not sure we need wingers. Everybody knows we need full backs and a quality attacking midfielder. Someone with a bit of class to change the game. Geremi and butt should be sold asap to pay for it.

If he’s better than Krul then he must be something special. Krul is a very good keeper and hopefully the future of our club. Having Krul and Forster as 1st choice and back up keepers in years to come is a very exciting prospect.

Peter Lovenkrands is expected to begin trials with Newcastle United this week.

The Evening Chronicle says United have been linked with out-of-contract winger Lovenkrands who has left Schalke 04.

who says were outta the race?

Yeah that Raul Meireles is a good player. Got a powerful long range shot and if he is signed, he will go well with Danny Guthrie 🙂

Never seen him, never heard of him but that doesn’t mean he is a bad player. Many player i have seen go to Arsenal that i have not heard of and they have turned out top quality. Plenty players linked today, hard to believe half of it.

No he isn’t as strong or as athletic as Vieria but he is a good box to box midfielder who has a good work rate. Good but not classy.

We have Barton and Guthrie as box to box players though. Fair enough if he is a good player, but I believe we need somebody either Viera-esque, really good defensively, or someone Emre-esque, very good creatively.

He’s the right age so could be factual and possibly a replacement for N’Zogbia if we need to sell before we buy. I hope not as I like Zogs; just wish he’d stop making statements to the press……

He’d be a decent signing. If we bring him in, I would still want to bring in Løvenkrands. That way we have two good players covering left and right wing. I would then sell Duff (huge wages).

    LW: N’Zogbia and (Løvenkrands)
    RW: Jonas and (de Mul)

Mind you I wouldn’t mind selling the whiny frenchman and moving Jonas over to the left and signing another proper right-winger
