There are reports in Spain that Newcastle United have enquired about former Ajax winger, 22 year-old Tom De Mul.
Tom De Mul – Sevilla right winger available?
De Mul is a 22-year-old Belgian who seems to have had an awful time of it since moving to Sevilla. He was at Ajax from 2003-2007 and in the 2005-2006 season was sent to Vitesse on loan, where he played 27 times and scored 2 goals for the Dutch club.
He played a total of 36 games for Ajax with 5 goals before moving to Sevilla in 2007, where he has played very few times for the Spanish side.
Tom stands 5’10” tall and has played a couple of times for Belgium, but his career seems to have stagnated in Spain, and the reports suggest Newcastle may be willing to bring him to Tyneside.
It seems that Newcastle United have now emerged as the front-runners to land the right winger, and the fee is reported as £3.5M, but that seems a little high but the reports suggest that he could join Newcastle as soon as this coming week.
Exactly where we will get £3.5M from of course is another question, since we haven’t sold any of players yet.
But this report says that Newcastle have already lost out to Rangers in the hunt for Danish winger Peter Løvenkrands, and we’re not sure that ius true, since Rangers are trying to reduce their wage bill and presumably will be looking to offload players in January.
De Mul was a good player while at Ajax, but his career has slumped significantly in Spain, and presumably Kinnear and Wise think he’s good enough to play for Newcastle.
But it’s unlikely Newcastle will sign both Lovenkrands and De Mul, so maybe we’ll get one of these in next week.
