Reports Newcastle After Aston Villa’s Nicky Shorey

There is news in the People today that Newcastle have joined the race for Aston Villa left-back Nicky Shorey.

Nicky Shorey – available from Aston Villa?

It seems that Villa manager Martin O’Neill is willing to sell the England international Shorey, only five months after signing him. The reason for that is Shorey has not been in good form and is not in the Villa starting eleven with Luke Young (he’s the player we should have signed from Middlesbrough last summer) starting at left back and former Glasgow  Rangers center-back Carlos Cuellar first choice at right back when he’s fit.

If we could get Shorey at a reasonable price that might be something that Newcastle may want to consider, but Shorey was off form for Reading last year. and doesn’t seem to be much better for Villa this season, but there’s a good player in there somewhere – and Joe Kinnear may think he can bring the best out of the former England International, who when on form has a lot of quality.

Newcastle’s top prioity in the transfer window is a left back, but the other news the People is reporting is that Newcastle would consider swapping Charles N’Zogbia for Shorey. We think this is just made up because Kinnear does nopt want to lose the Frenchman, and Charles looked lively when he came on for the scoend half yesterday.

Joe Kinnear came out over the last two days and says he’s fed up hearing about N’Zogbia wanting away, and it seems that Joe wants to keep players at Newcastle in January, apart from those he will sell, who are on the fringes of the firsat team, and will fund new players coming in.

N’Zogbia is not on of those players.

And the People says that Arsene Wenger will firm up his interest in N’Zogbia soon, but we know for a fact that Joe called Wenger a day or two ago and the Arsenal manager said he was not interested in the young Frenchman – but when did The People let facts get in the way of a story?

We think the Shorey interest from Newcastle may be true but a swap deal for N’Zogbia would hardly bee good for Newcastle.

Shorey has been capped twice by England, and was a £3.5M summer signing from Reading, so maybe a deal could be struck for him for around £2M, and we think that would interest Kinnear and Wise.

Comments welcome.

sounds ok as long as it’s a maximum of 2 million. Tbh, you could prob get him on loan with a view to a permanent 2 million deal. Agree the fee now as if he is great they will want more in the summer.

He’s pretty good at set piece delivery which could make a nice change from geremi’s trademark free kicks

A loan deal until end of season would be best for us with an agreed fee of maximum 2M if we stay in PL !

he would be decent if we give him a decent run of games and we get him for initially loan but agree a low price maybe 2-3 mil so that if he is good in the summer we only pay the 2-3mil.

would in my mind be better than enrique in terms of at least passing the ball, but the jury is still out.

wouldnt mind shorey for lb, i have it from a good source that we have enquired about 3 man city players although i only know about 2 onouah – who hasnt said yes or know, he knows about our intrest but is waiting to see if anything else comes up (really good friend of s taylor) and the second johnson – the first big got rejected and not to sure if we have followed it up, his agent knows of nufc interst. am not going to speculate on the third although i know for a fact we have enquired about 3 man city players.

There is talk that we are closing in on Raul Meireles, though I have NO IDEA how accurate the source is. If this happened any ideas on how he would do?

I think he is perfect replacment for Butt, 25, brilliant passer, and a defensive midfielder, personally would love him.

not sure about Shorey, he’s a better passer than Jose but can’t defend half as well – ideally we want them to morph together to create a great LB 🙂

Ed – well done on implementing the login – hopefully stop all the impersonators as well as keeping the idiots off

According to reports in Spain, and that of British newspaper The News of the World, Newcastle United have enquired about former Ajax winger Tom De Mul. The 22-year-old Belgian has had a torrid time since moving to Spanish giants Sevilla, and Newcastle are prepared to give him a ticket out of his La Liga nightmare.

The right-sided midfielder has been the subject of a wide array of speculation, and Newcastle United have now emerged as the surprising front-runners to land him.

The fee is thought to be £3.5 million, and if reports are to be believed, the Belgian wingman could join the Magpies before next weekend’s clash against Blackburn Rovers.

At last – not the most apparent registration system in the world.
There is also talk of the Sevilla winger Tom De Mul (ex Ajaz) as we have missed out on Lovenkrands (sic). Didnt know we needed another winger.
As for forwards we are apparently after Beattie after his move t o Stoke has fallen through.

1 Question – how can a club with that fills the stadium week in week out, has conned some supporters to pay up front for 3 years, has sold Milner for 15million and had no noticeable players bought be linked with the likes od this dross. Is ot down to the attractiveness of the club – owner and manager or is it a case of Ashley takking as much out as he can before finally selling the club at a later date??

Fed up doesnt come close !!!

Not that I am synical but doubful this is even true and that we would go in for him.

Any statement of intent would be good from NUFC. IE offical news that we have offered on anyone. A reject is proof in itself that we are in the serious market.

All we have is word from JFK that we have not heard back from clubs. Something on SSN would be good.

I keep checking NUFC website for news but its the same – nowt of importance.

I hope that Carroll goes into Hull on Wednesday and has another good game. Come on Michael – earn your wages again son!

Watching the MOTD highlights of Hull they are vulnerable and could act in our favour!!!

We do need another LB. Rather Riise than Shorey. However, Shorey must have some potential and I think that neither Reading or Villa have got the best out of him. Still at an age where he can improve. Going by Zogs play yesterday he is wasted played at LB. We need a LB – one who wants to come and not one pulled out of some reporters hat in some London pub.

Why would no one want to come to NUFC and play infront of 47-52K people.

Support wise we are up there with the big 4 (support numbers wise).

Our away fans are the noisiest buggers considering there is normally only around 2500 and its deafening all around SJP.

I would be interested if a decibel test was done at home matches who would be the loudest.

If you talk to any Toon fan, they only want the best for the team. Everyone may have a differeny opinion about individuals or individual issues but the passion is there for all to see and hear from our terrace.

An interesting song yesterday when we went behind to Wham.

“You only sing when your winning”.

Where as we got behind our team vocally and spurred them on – even though they were Sh1te at times.

A club is nothing without its supporters (amongst other things)

I read Toongraeme’s link. Interesting but why does JK want to get Riise in order to get rid of Enrique? Cannot the Mirror have the brains to see that we would be left with only one LB still?
But then – that is the Mirror Mirror on the Shite House Wall for you.

    NOT SHOREY
He is too slow and gets caught out too much.
Thats why he often gets put on the bench if they are playing against a team with fast wingers as they outrun him too often.
Riise or Tiawo would be much better options

They did Toon Graeme, but the result won’t please the average Geordie. It was SUNDERLAND.

Why shouldn’t Villa sell Shorey for less than they paid for him? They’ve tried him out and he’s been crap. We’d be doing them a favour. Besides, we’ve done it with loads of players.
