Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle will do a deal with Peter Lovenkrands only until the end of the season and then look at things again at that time.

Peter Lovenkrands - he had gray hair before joining Newcastle
Newcastle manager Kinnear has already offered the Denmark international a week-long trial, but Joe seems already convinced and the manager has offered the Danish International a short term deal.
Joe said today:
“We have spoken about him staying with me until the end of the season and then looking at it at the end of the season, and that’s the position we find ourselves in at the moment,”
“He is happy to do that, so hopefully we can tie something up and make something permanent at the end of this week for the rest of the season.”
That seems a little odd to us, but it does stack all the advantages to the club, because we can see how Peter does through the end of the season, and then be better positioned to know what deal he’s worth longer term, if any.
Lovenkrands seems OK with that offer.
The main thing is to get good players in through the end of the seaosn, and then we can rebuild the squad more substantially in the summer, when a lot more of our targets should be available.
And after reports that Newcastle may make a move for West Ham midfielder Nigel Quashie, Kinnear was quick to play down newspaper reports linking us with him – so we can cross that made-up story off the list – and that’s good.
Comments welcome.

Now we need some real signings

Good news!
Raul Meireles and Risse also please!!!!!!!!

good deal for him as well – if he plays well he’ll get offers from other clubs and can negotiate with the highest bidder

JK said that the players coming in on loan are Italian and Argentinian. He also said that we were about to sign Appiah but then Spuds offered him a trial. But I read that Appiah’s trial has finished and SPuds didn’t offer him anything!

Nice deal, had my article before this blog hehe
:D
Good signing, with pace and ability to score goals
8 Archie Mag // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:11 PM
I was just thinking that Stevep, hope he doesnt come in and set the prem alight then do off at the end of the season!
JFK said the 2 loan signings were an argie and an italian, both internationals. LB – Burdisso? I’d put a few quid on that being one of them.
9 Archie Mag // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:13 PM
Anyone know where you can read a full transcript of JFKs press conference?

Great news , if he does well we will have a chance to offer him a long term contract before other teams move in .
If he still has his speed after the injuries he has had then we are onto a winner . The pace he and Oba have will scare most defences to death .
11 Kash // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:15 PM
Burdisso isn’t a LB
12 Doocey // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:15 PM
Burdisso and A Juventus Defender I heard.

19 JonnyNufc // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Well has has to prove himself now.
His last club let him go on a free….so i dont think we should be massively expecting much tbh.
Clubs dont tend to let go of even averagely good players for nothing.
20 Doocey // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:22 PM
Match practice?
Sure he only left Schalke a few weeks back!
He’d be ready for 45 mins anyways

@Doocey – Where did you hear that?
22 sweendog // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:23 PM
Archie Mag .. heard it could be Pasquale of fiorentina … I hope so .. far better than Burdisso .. and would be a first choice LB… the argie .. could it be saviola .. or am I dreaming again that MA has sold up..

If Peter does well until the end of the season, and we want to keep him I cant see him moving on unless Rangers can afford his wages!! He’s looking to settle down somewhere near Glasgow so his wife is near to family.
Hope he does well, is he eligble for tomorrow?
If not PLAY RANGER
29 Jimbo // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:26 PM
Does anyone know yet why Schalke let him go? Was it personal reasons or to do with form/injuries?
30 Doocey // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:27 PM
This is pretty bad though, wheres any money for Kinnear?
Could turn a bargain though like Sibi

funny he didnt mention anything about a certain porto midfielder, kind of disapointed about that, and i think he aint naming them so other teams dont get any ideas to try and sighn them :p
33 arctoa // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:30 PM
I’d read that he’d simply been frozen out in favour of younger players. He was injury-ridden last season but not this time around, he just hasn’t been used.

haha
i really want to know who now, why are they unnamed.
unless they are thinkin of announcing at the match tomorrow?

If the LB is from Juve and Burdisso is the Argey Bargey then it must only be Molinaro

I think I’m led to believe that any new players brought in between cup replays aren’t illegible to play in the replay if they hadn’t already been signed before the original tie. Could be wrong of course.

Jimbo // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:26 PM
“Does anyone know yet why Schalke let him go? Was it personal reasons or to do with form/injuries?”
It was injuries Jimbo, here’s what the head of Shalke said.
“Schalke managing director Andreas Mueller said Lovenkrands was a high-quality striker but that “it no longer worked out with us over the last half year.”
Lovenkrands, who arrived from Rangers in 2006 on a free transfer, was unlucky in being repeatedly hit by injuries, Mueller said.”
41 JonnyNufc // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:38 PM
“German side Schalke 04 have released Danish international striker Peter Lovenkrands from his contract.
The 28-year-old Dane joined Schalke in 2006 but never managed to break through with six goals in 44 games. This season, he hasn’t made a single appearance and was even moved to the club’s reserve squad.”
42 pdidy // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:40 PM
I didn’t hear it im just throwing it out there!
43 JonnyNufc // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:40 PM
The worst side any injury stricken player could ever possibly move to is Newcastle United im afraid.
We prob wont see much of him lol
44 blip // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:41 PM
Well, seeing as he hasn’t signed yet, he can’t play anyway. Triallists are inelligible to play in competetive matches, and Newcastle won’t have registered him with the FA yet.
45 NorthernPaul // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:43 PM
I think this is a good deal for the club.
He could be good, but if he isn’t we can let him go with nothing lost.
46 Drunken Steve // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Cash strapped club? What happened to the spondoolicks generated from the sale of Milner? £12 M was bandied round I belive? Mr Ashley been playing late night roulette again and we are here harping on about some Danish wash out!
He plans to cut spending, do just enough to keep the club in the premiership and cream the profits (and cash generated from the sales of players) untill the econamy recovers to a point where he can make a tidy profit on the club, while the fans endure mid table (at best) mediocrity!
This is exactly how he has made his fortune in the past buy a business cheap and sell it on at a later date for a profit.
Ashley is a scoundrel, the kind of person that prospects on oil and pushes the price up at the pump for the rest of us. Lets not all kid ourselfs by saying we should allow him back in the fold.
I want stability for my club as much as anyone but I have to stick to my guns ASHLEY and the COCKNEY MAFIA OOT!
47 blip // Jan 13, 2009 at 5:48 PM
Apparently Fulham are interested in Mr Lovenkrands too, good news that we got in there early.

“I want stability for my club as much as anyone but I have to stick to my guns ASHLEY and the COCKNEY MAFIA OOT!”
Steve, who exactly is this “Cockney Mafia” you’re referring to? There isn’t one single ‘cockney’ currently in charge at Newcastle United, not even Dennis Wise. You just make Geordies look stupid with all your “Cockney Mafia” bleating. Try learning some geography.

Am i right in thinking that lovenkrands has played something like 40 games in just over two years?
I wouldnt be getting overly excited about this..if excited at all. Fair enough i’ll give him his chance, see how he does but he’s not exactly a late xmas gift. a stocking filler at best.
52 OHurley // Jan 13, 2009 at 7:07 PM
According to a recent story in an Argentine newspaper, Newcastle have reached a deal with FC Barcelona for midfielder Lionel Messi. I understand he’s been on Tyneside having a medical recently. Also, reports suggest that Newcastle have been in contact with the agents of Ronaldinho, Wayne Rooney, and are in fact going back in time to sign a young Franz Beckenbauer. lol.
53 alanshearersdiscopants // Jan 13, 2009 at 7:44 PM
I’m all for giving the lad a chance but the whole thing smells a lot like the majority of our other transfers in the past five years. A reject who nobody wants seeing out the miserable end of his career on tyneside – smith, geremi, viduka, cacapa, babayaro etc etc the list goes on forever.
Say what you like about freddy at least he put his fat arms in his fat pockets and supported his managers financially no shitty loan deals for has-beens.
54 Toon Graeme // Jan 13, 2009 at 8:55 PM
As far as our position goes. Good – he will probably be on the bench for Blackburn. If he aint signing til friday he WONT play tomorrow.
DOnt think all is bad:
Edgar – Collo – Bassong – Germei
Jonas – Guthire – Butt – Zog
Mo – Duff
Lua Lua on the bench for one?
Thats not that bad.
Gurthie will be on fire and think Butt will hold in Mid.
Chin up fella < 24hrs to go.
Please no more bad news – lets look on the up.

I think you’ll find that Ashley had to pick up the tab for quite a few of Freddy and Doug’s extravagances, that’s why Shepherd and Hall had to bail out so quickly.

ashley is now only worth 800mil (i say only because he was worth 1.6bil), so now that means more than a quarter of his overall wealth is in nufc as HE HAS PAID OFF OUR DEBT so why tyhe f**k would he want us to bad??
we paid aft sam off with 6 mil, keegan’s pay off is a potential 8 mil and spiderman is 12 mil so that is 20mil we have to budget for as we mite loose it.
honsetly waht do you expect ashley to do go buy kaka (even some of you on this site still wouldnt be happy) lets be real the only way we got so called big names in the past is because we paid redicilous wages and did we get any sucess NO so why the hell do you want to do it again or think it will work this time!!
again sunderland last calander year spent 5th most in world and look at them, look at tottenham aswell!!
stop being so negative!!!
