Newcastle After 22 Year-Old Coventry Left Back

Newcastle United Football Club are linked with a £2M bid for 22 year old Coventry City left back Daniel Fox – at least according to the Sunday Sun.

Daniel Fox – 6’1″ Coventry City left-back

With Joe Kinnear more than eager to bolster the Newcastle squad during the January transfer window, so we will have a more than even chance of staying in the Premier League this season, reports in the Sunday Sun claim that 22-year-old Fox has emerged as a target.

The Coventry City defender Fox learned his trade at the Everton Youth Academy, but the closest he came to a first-team appearance was as an 18-year-old being named on the bench.

He was released by Everton in the summer of 2005 and he moved to Walsall, where he played around 100 times before moving to Coventry City last January.

It appears that Joe Kinnear rates him highly, as a star of the future and hopes to land the player for just £2M.

The Winsford-born Fox has already been called up for the England Under-21 side for the match against Poland on March 25th last year and started that game.

Last January, the attack-minded left-back signed a three-and-a-half year deal at the Ricoh Arena, but he would no doubt jump at the chance of joining Newcastle United.

Daniel is also the type of player that we should be signing at the club, and there has to be some young jewels playing in the Championship – and this boy could be one of them

never seen him play before so i can’t really give a huge perspective.

in terms of squad places this would be great. however, ideally i would prefer us to get a relatively more premier league experienced left back. if this kid played right back instead, this would be perfect type of backup for habib beye.

however, i would love to be proved wrong if this kid comes to newcastle and ends up doing a job on par with guthrie and bassong

You never know – he might either drop a nugget of thruth and stun we with announcement of a signing me know nowt about – sort or Jonas/Colo esque

    or

Spin we a right yarn and contradict himself (again).

What I find funny is the way the press conference is edited for NUFCtv – when you can normally go on BBC and see the whole or near whole thing from start to finish in different order.

I think I got too much time!!

Anyway – I think we will pile the pressure on for first half tomorrow and hope to be at least 2 – 0 nil up on the 45.

who is going to the match and where are you sat?

N’Zogbia says he has experienced 6 managers in his time at the club and every season is getting worse and worse and he wants to leave (again). Just been on Sky Sports some quotes of a French website.

hmm tottenham made gareth bale available, who reckons we should give a low fee punt for him? maybe around 3mil seeing as they bought him for 5 (they havent paid other 5mil as that was add ons for appearances and yadda yadda which he obviously hasnt fulfilled yet as not enough time)

I was gutted we missed out on him when he went to the spuds, how much a chance we stood then is up for debate!

I think he is worth a shot, young, international.

Theres got to have been something in the water, cos bentley aint that bad, neither is modric, lennon et al, but spuds are doing shocking!

Maybe it’s their equivilant of our injuries!!!

    Ryan Toon

is there anywhere you can get a stream for the press conference?

As for a left back, think the lad Garrido at Man city should be available for 1m. not a bad replacement, however i think in a years time Enrique will develop into a really good player.

Think we need to give our young team a chance to develop.

Whingeing little so and so he may be, and he’s embarrassing no one but himself with all this stuff, but N’Zogbia needs to look at himself and start doing something on the pitch.

i doubt an exchange with lyon would be done tho there are a few players there that would be enticing despite the fact that cacapa was a lyonnaise failure for us. i would guess that if there was a bid it would be for around 5mil or less tho i think we should press for a bit more maybe 7 mil as he is young and is quite good at being in a central role as well as on the left and has a future ahead of him

What do guys think about the Preston defender St Ledger?? From what I’ve seen this season he looks a fairly solid defender, very composed and not scared to bring the ball out of defence…

On Fox, sounds a possibility and maybe a better option than Shorey.

On Zog, enough already. We need to fill the squad with players with great attitudes, like Jonas and Guthrie, and – yes – get rid of Zog. Preferably abroad, and preferably for at least 5M. Get Lovenkrands in for free, and scout for younger talents as well.

    pubcat well said, spot on.

toon rich, i haven’t seen much of st ledger, but i have heard some decent reports on him. if im not mistaken he can play across the back four? could potentially be good back up for beye however i would like to see us use our boys such as edgar, tozer and kadar as opposed to buying more young centre backs

Apparently nobody at CCFC is aware of any enquiries for Fox, so i have been told. But that info is not from the top heirachy, if i hear any different i’ll let you all know. Not many players from Coventry who i think would be worth a bit to be honest. Maybe Gunnarson at a push

We should have been signing players like him in the summer.

    whats 2 million ?

Look at the money spent on Bassong, 1.5million, whats he worth now: 6-7 million ???

    Guthrie 2.5 million, now: 4-5 million ????

    Take a chance!

It would be nice to think that we would look at trying to get a player from them, I know the french league is dross, but champ league experience and so forth.

    raffo,

i agree it would be nice, makoun or mensah for example however,

i doubt we would be able to pull off a deal as it seems not many would throw away champions league for us at this stage in time. cacapa did because he was getting on, not getting in as many games and of course the huge pay packet that we were willing to offer him.

would be ecstatic if we did manage to take a player from lyon
