Kinnear Closer To Signing A Fantastic Player

Well at least Joe Kinnear seems to tell the press everything he knows about what’s going in the transfer market, and it looks like Newcastle may be very close to sealing a deal for Stephane Mbia, the 22 year old 6’2″ Rennes midfielder, who Joe says is a fantastic player.

Stephane Mbia – Newcastle very close to deal

Joe talked about the transfer situation again today to the Evening Chronicle:

“We put a bid in for Stephane Mbia earlier in the week with an offer of £5M, that is a permanent deal,”

“He’s a fantastic player.”

That figure seems to vary from £4M to £5M from Joe, but what’s £1M between friends, but it seems to be a firm offer and since Everton have no money in January to spend, we may be in a good position to close the deal.

The new news that broke today is that Newcastle are after Aussie left-back Lucas Neill, who is also just as comfortable on the left hand side, and Joe gave an update on that deal, saying:

“We have spoken to him, we are waiting to hear what the answer is from West Ham,”

“All I can say is it is seriously ongoing.”

“We’d love to have them in for the Blackburn game.” “We wouldn’t want to leave it any later.”

“We’d like to bring back in injured players and fresh faces.” “We’ve identified the players we want.”

It would be to get these couple of players into the club before Saturday.

Blackburn will also be our last match for 11 days when we are at Eastlands against moneybags, Manchester City, so there’s now time after the Blackburn game to get more players into the club, since we’ll not have a cup tie a week on Saturday.

It will be important that we get a good result at Blackburn, and who knows, we might even get all 3 points.

Comments welcome.

I’m still convinced M’Bia won’t happen. Even if somehow Rennais accept only 5 Mil for him, he still wouldn’t come to us.

Neil would be a good deal though.

If we do get Mbia it will be an amazing purchase, but now that it has leaked to the press, with an estimate price of 5mil, his price is bound to go up and put the deal off.

Hope i am wrong cuz Mbia was great in th AFCON 2008!! Lucas Neill also sounds like a good buy but you can bet West Ham are going to push his price as high as possible (b@st@rds!)

This guy sounds really good, would definately add another layer to our squad from what i hear.
Don’t particularly want Neil but if he fights for the side then i can’t really complain.

I really hope we get M’Bia, really do. Not so keen on Neill who’s only a year younger than Beye, hardly a look to the future. I know that the signings this window may only be to plug the massive holes in our squad, but I’d rather the money was spent wisely rather than rashley Just have to see how this all pans out now, hopefully with the 2 loan signings and 2 permanent transfers.

I’ll be surprised if Mbia actually joins us. We may be close to signing him, but how close? Fee agreed? or terms agreed as well?

Too early to rejoice, he could well rejects us. JK has the tendency to speak too soon and exaggerate the situation.

I’m waiting for the comments that the Mbia announcement is just a smoke screen from the real news that Nicky Butt has signed an improved contract. 🙂

Lucas Neil is a mecenary, not even that good, why didnt we go for Finnan. Hull have had a £1 million bid accepted. I rated him at liverpool!

I agree its too early to be getting carried away and once again believe Joe is foolish in naming these guys.

He mentioned 48 hrs ago that we could be signing 2 loan players…..the fans are hanging on every word he says and are furious we havent heard nothing more about them.

Now hes mentioned Neill, who Wham are rejecting our move already and Surely Rennes will not accept 5 million, when they wanted double in the summer!

I think the fans and Joe are getting carried away at the moment and we should learn from past mistakes.

For me Neill would be a cracking addition.

The deal will drag on till NUFC reaches 7 mill.

Why not include Cacapa in that 5 mill,i’m sure they’ll be more than happy to have him.

Mark-o – I agree finnan would be a useful addition to the team and for £1m it’s a no brainer. However I’d rather see us bring in some midfielders than another defender.

Also, let’s not get too down hearted. The really big clubs, ManU, Barca, both madrid teams, don’t really do much business in January as they have their squads settled and they don’t want to upset the balance. They will only be looking for cover, should they need it and let’s face it most of them don’t. It’s clubs like us and the smaller teams like sunderland and spurs who do business in Jan as we have a lot of injuries and smaller clubs like spurs need players to replace the mistakes they have made in the summer due to their inexperience. I put Stoke, WBA and Sunderland in the same bracket, especially sunderland who wasted all their pop and sweets money on a load of has beens.

The point of my post was that we probably do stand an excellent chance of pulling the Mbia signing off as we are the biggest club who are interested in him at this time.

Who knows guys maybe they’ll take 5 mil for the lad…..let’s be a little optimistic here. As for Neil, in my opinion its a complete waste of money, Ebondo is soo much better (yes i know Ebondo is a rb)

Ebondo – is a young talented player that will only get better, one that could eventually take over the starting position from Beye as Beye get’s older.

Neil – is an average defender that has long since reached his potential, Enrique is much better right now…..rather put Zog’s their to be honest.

Lastly what the hell happened to the knowledge of the two loan signings that we would supposedly know about in 48 hrs……..it’s now been 48 hrs ago?????

tomlkier….Let Geremi go to Besiktas and put a 5 mill+ Cacapa for M’bia.

By releasing those 2,we save around 90k pw + we get 1.5 mill for Geremi

everton were bidding BEFORE the economy collapsed. rennes do not have a pit of cash and may have no choice but to accept a good bid for the lad, especially if he wants to go. im not sure if they have money worries but they’ve just loaned wiltord to marseille aswell so maybe they couldnt afford his wages coz i cant see why else they’d let him go…

Rennes loaned out Wiltord cause he had problems with the manager, as far as I’ve heard. Although I’m hoping for your explanation, xisco biscuits… gives us a better chance of getting him.

to be honest he could stay at rennes and possibly get into the CL this season, but he may not. and players in france, unless they are headline-grabbers i.e. benzema, ribery, do not get recognition as it is a fairly poor league

if the bid is accepted i’d be very surprised if he turned us down as its a huge chance to move to the best most-watched league in the world. and for all our failings we’re still a very famous club!!

Everyones getting carried away, the club are taking us for mugs:
Fact. What happened to the summer 16mil WOW signing
Fact.Where are the two imminent loan signings
Fact.ashley is intent on asset stripping what papoer thin squad we have.
Fact. exactly what does llambias do?
Fact. JFK is an embarassment, he acts like a spoilt teenager who doesnt know when to keep quiet and makes the whole club look inept.
Lets hope we somehow avoid relegation, and some serious buyers come in when the money markets improve, it seems to me like ashley has about three bob in his pocket and that isnt enough. He mentioned the ideal business plan based on arsenal, I dont ever recall arsenal selling there best talent whilst in a relegation dogfight.
