Well at least Joe Kinnear seems to tell the press everything he knows about what’s going in the transfer market, and it looks like Newcastle may be very close to sealing a deal for Stephane Mbia, the 22 year old 6’2″ Rennes midfielder, who Joe says is a fantastic player.
Stephane Mbia – Newcastle very close to deal
Joe talked about the transfer situation again today to the Evening Chronicle:
“We put a bid in for Stephane Mbia earlier in the week with an offer of £5M, that is a permanent deal,”
“He’s a fantastic player.”
That figure seems to vary from £4M to £5M from Joe, but what’s £1M between friends, but it seems to be a firm offer and since Everton have no money in January to spend, we may be in a good position to close the deal.
The new news that broke today is that Newcastle are after Aussie left-back Lucas Neill, who is also just as comfortable on the left hand side, and Joe gave an update on that deal, saying:
“We have spoken to him, we are waiting to hear what the answer is from West Ham,”
“All I can say is it is seriously ongoing.”
“We’d love to have them in for the Blackburn game.” “We wouldn’t want to leave it any later.”
“We’d like to bring back in injured players and fresh faces.” “We’ve identified the players we want.”
It would be to get these couple of players into the club before Saturday.
Blackburn will also be our last match for 11 days when we are at Eastlands against moneybags, Manchester City, so there’s now time after the Blackburn game to get more players into the club, since we’ll not have a cup tie a week on Saturday.
It will be important that we get a good result at Blackburn, and who knows, we might even get all 3 points.
Comments welcome.

Comment #201Tom toon- and the rest of the anti Neill brigade I don’t get it?
K he’s wages are huge and obviously not deserved but whats new in football, and especially at nufc?
He’s a player with massive experience in the pl, can play across the back four, plays week in and out and always has done in his time at blackburn and westham, and can be a leader on the pitch as it shows with him being captain at times throughout his career.
Not a wow signing, but a good solid player which will add depth, cover and pl experience to our back four.
surely whats needed, so I hope he comes in.
