Reports Newcastle Still After Midfielder Michael Johnson

There are continuing reports that Newcastle United want to get 20 year old midfielder Michael Johnson in from Manchester City.

Michael Johnson – are Newcastle really interested?

First of all this could be yet another made up story, let’s face it but we still hope it’s true.   😀

Michael is an excellent player and the type of lad Newcastle are trying to sign, but we’re not sure City would let him go, and if he is available we think there could be some bigger and more successful clubs after him.

The fee stated is £6M, and for the player he could become that’s a fairly reasonable price, not that Man City need the money, but the The England Under-21 international has had a troubled season at Manchester City, with injuries getting in the way of the significant progress he has made since he made his debut back in 2006.

It is believed Joe Kinnear is keen to add the 20-year-old midfielder to his squad at St James Park, and we think that could be true, but whether Newcastle have any chance of getting him is debatable. although if we could get him Ashley could well cough up the money for such a top youngster.

The news yesterday that City were willing to pay £100M for one player, AC Milan’s Kaka is just astounding, and we’re not sure at all this is good for the game.

After all they just wasted £50M on two players, Jo and Robinho in the summer, when they need to get more good players into the team first, with the vast amounts of money they have available.

Is Kaka a good player, of course he is, one of the best, but hell do nothing to stop the goals City keep leaking.

If you look at the City side right now, they’re not too better off than Newcastle, so why wouldn’t Mark Hughes, who is very good manager and usually down to earth, want to get 5-6 good players in for around £10M each, if they are available, that would vastly improve the side first, before signing world class players, like Kaka?

You need a player like Kaka when you are at the heights of football, like a Man United or Chelsea, when the only way you can really improve the team is by adding world class players.

This is not meant to be a criticism of City, and certainly not their fans, who will obviously be excited at the resources made available by the owners. but why wouldn’t they spend that money first, to tighten up obvious weaknesses the team has shown this season.

We think the new owners are trying to make world-wide headlines by buying these top players, but that’s not the same as building a good solid team first.

Eventually there will need to be some salary cap or something in football, to limit the amount of money that can be paid out by billionaires to make their teams great, if only to level out the playing field a bit, as is done in the US.

Back to Johnson, and if he’s available for £6M, then sign him, but we’d be very surprised if

a) he’s even available and

b) his transfer fee is just £6M.

Comments welcome.

alcoholic, whats all that about then.
100 million for Kaka is ridiculous, doubt he’ll want to goto city anyway – you can see man citys logic though, if he joins it makes a huge statement and other top class players will fall over themselves to join them.

We’ll be the biggest club in the championship – wahoooooo

NEWCASTLE United have turned to experienced Aussie international right-back Lucas Neill in order to bolster their injury-ravaged squad.
    ————————————————————

He’ll be on a free at end of season. Dont want him he is just money hungry and is ageing and wasnt a player as he once was . He plays decent for australia though 😀

Aye we need backup for right back no doubt about it. I doubt however if Lucas Neill is the answer. Maybe til the end of the season if we can’t get anyone else like. If we sign Neill permanently then we’ll have two right backs at the arse end of their career. What we really need is a young right back who can learn from Beye.

alcoholic? he’ll fit right in then. sign him up.

seriously though he’s a young lad and he looks a class act so there’s no chance of him coming here.

I remember him playing in the same man city side as barton at st james park two seasons back. Think we lost 1-0 (mpenza maybe?) but this lad ran the show even then and I think he only had a couple of games under his belt at that stage.

i’d take him alcoholic or no alcoholic but it’ll never happen.

Firstly its an argie and an italian loan within 48hrs then its m’bia and the other lad and now its Johnson. Is it just me or do you think that the loanees rejected us so to soften the blow they state we’re now buying the rb and m’bia and now they’ve realised that they too rejected us so again to make us forget about that they say that we’re in for Johnson. I can’t see us gettin anyone bar Lovenkrands,

Apparently we’ve signed up Gazza’s nephew Cameron. He’s 7. He scored 22 goals in a 30 minute juniors match.

Only 11 more years to go….

    Hope not.

A city fan came on here and said he (Michael Johnson) can be found buying girls drinks in the most flashy nightclubs in Manchester most nights of the week.

Apparently he is red faced and unfit. Thats why he’s never in the first team any more and they want rid of him.

    AVOID like the plague Ed!

    Tom Toon,
Before you make accusations about people being alcoholics and injury prone, do your homework.
The lad is a mere 20 year old and yes he is at present injured but there is no proof that he is an alcoholic nor injury prone, whatever that means ?
How many of the toon players were regulars @ quay side clubs in the past, were they labled alcoholics ?
Dont be so sure you are allways right and lighten up with the acusations.

He’s been in and out of rehab for monhs, it is a well documented fact.

Do your reasearch and ask Man City fans, they will say the exact same as me.

It is you who is wrong saying Im wrong on this matter.
