Joe Kinnear In Hot Water Over Lucas Claims

It looks like Joe Kinnear’s statement yesterday regarding West Ham player Lucas Neill has really upset the London club.

Joe Kinnear – in trouble over Neill statements

And today West Ham have aimed a stinging rebuke at Newcastle United over the pursuit of Lucas Neill.

The Hammers are annoyed that Joe told Sky Sports that they had already talked to Neill’s agent and that it is now up to the West Ham club, as they say there has been no contact between the clubs and insist the defender just isn’t for sale.

The Newcastle United club issued a statement this morning on the web site saying:

“In looking to strengthen our squad, the Club has been exploring a number of possibilities during the transfer window.”

“With regard to Lucas Neill, West Ham United have made it clear he is a player they value as a highly important member of their squad and who they have no desire to sell.”

“Newcastle United respect West Ham’s position and will therefore not be pursuing the matter.”

That’s a good statement from the club and it’s about all they can do to try to settle down the situation, but West Ham fans are not happy at all.

In a statement West Ham responded:

“We are astonished by reports a Premier League manager has claimed contact with one of our players.”

“We’d like to make it clear Neill is a contracted player and we’ve received no approach from any club, including Newcastle.”

This is something Joe should not have done, and we should realize from now on that Kinnear tends to overstate how close we are on deals.

However, we suppose Neill is available on a free transfer in the summer, if he does not commit himself to the London club, so we could still go after him in the summer.

But we’d surprised if Joe didn’t get quite a rebuke from the club behind close doors yesterday, and we’d expect him to be more careful when talking to the press on transfer issues from now on.

Comments welcome.

Whether it was a red herron or the truth, Joe should have known better.

However if it is the truth, i admire him telling it like it is and shooting from the hip. This guy clearly does not play by the rules, despite the ramifications.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if his contract is up in the summer then surely he/his agent can talk to other clubs – very much like Owen, Harper etc.

Im normally one who will air on the side of caution but in this instance I have got to ask

What excatly is the beef with NUFC approach of Neill? Why stand up and say we have, if we clearly have not and then issue an official statement on NUFC website. It doesnt ring true or taste like the hot coffee served at £2.00 at SJP, which by the way is lovely!

Are we really bothered if we peeed of wham? After all qwe have played them twice now anyway.

As long as this doesnt destroy any credibility!!

Any else think that KaKa bid is just ridiculous money. Watch him score one and get hacked down and roll around the ground in true italian style and the ref tell him to get up!! Stupid money like.

    Was never gonna happen anyway.

Notice Joe has said today that there’s a behind closed doors match next Tue for the two loans players were after.

This is because nobody has seen them play!!!

Were getting people who we’ve never seen play?

    Unbelievable!

I’m losing the will to live!

We’ll bring in only Lovanthingy and that’s it!

according to the Journal, you can only speak to players whos contract is up if its for a deal NEXT season.

It would appear we want him this season, that is the problem Wham have.

Oh yes i also agree, who cares about bloody Wham!

    Morning guys,

Anyone read the comment from JFK, when asked about Bafetimi Gomis??

JFK said ” Right name, wrong club”

Anyone know if there is there a Gomis that plays for another club?

I kinda wonder, wether Joe PURPOSELY lies, to throw the scent of who he is really bidding for.

    For example:

    ” We have bid 5m for M’Bia”

Is it really more like 8m though, but wants other teams not to know how much?

    We’ll see.

And saying we’re after neil distracts the press from who we MAY actually b after

I think we should look at something that we can definately say will happen and that 3pm tomorrow against Blackburn.

Again this is a revenge mission after the 2 -1 at SJP. Was that not Xisco’s debut goal game I recall.

Problem is with our team (I’ll base this on Wed night and last Sat) we cannot finish with the ball in the net. Jonas has an annoying habit of beating off 3/4 players (which is a good habit beleive me) and then we cant finish the job in the net.

Thats our problem. Cast your minds back to SJP against Villa when we beat them. Lovely game and showed grit and determination on what otherwise could have been our pasting! We need that back.

As much as Joey is linked with stories of either going or being sold (same thing) he is a ballsy player who makes a difference.

As for Cattermole – little S*it. Wiped out two of our players. By all means have a go son, but dont take em out for months you div. One of the things I love about Joey is his ability to make revenge look like a innocent takle. If he has the chance – he’ll take it.

Someone mentioned the Mackem match. That is gonna be (for me) the point where we can turn our home fortunes around. I want those 3 points and bragging rights against the scum. That will be probably the tuffest game this season. Chelsea aint the force they are – if you played Chelsea – you used to get beat. Not at the minute though. Still looking forward to the yearly redition of F**k of chelsea from the terraces!

“We will have them (the potential loan signings) behind closed doors in a training game on Tuesday to see if they come up to scratch because we haven`t actually seen them play,” he revealed. “One of them had a long-term injury and I want to see how his fitness is.’

Wat does he mean he hasnt seen em play??

Sounds as though the scouts have been busy or we have had them offerred to the club. Pure speculation. This is Wise’s and his teams bread and butter time and we must trust that NUFC is doing everything possible at this time.

God I sound like a press officer at NUFC. Which is clear that I am not!!!!

The team has alot of brownie points to make up from last wednesday. I know it was only a cup run. But a cup run is a cup run and a chance at silverware and that phycological boost.

Im sure that the team want to stuff Fat Sam and trust me so do I. 3 or 1 point – preferable the 3 and Santa Cruz is crocked so he wont be playing (sure read that on SSN).

The most galling fact about this is that NUFC never efen had any intention of buying Lucas Neil in the first place. It was just a case of Ashley’s mouthpiece Kinnear adding to the huge ammount of utter nonsense he has been spouting about new signings since November. The bottom line is that ashley had turned Newcastle into a selling club. I said at the beginning of the month that the only significant transfer activity involving Newcastle in the January would be outgoing and I stand by that. The only new players we are going to see this month will be a couple of duffers on loan, if we’re lucky.

The officuial statement on Lucas Neil makes me sick to my stomach:

“With regard to Lucas Neill, West Ham United have made it clear he is a player they value as a highly important member of their squad and who they have no desire to sell.”

“Newcastle United respect West Ham’s position and will therefore not be pursuing the matter.”

It’s a pity that Ashley and his cronies didn’t show the same level of respect when Kevin Keegan had no desire to sell James Milner.

Speaking to The Journal Magpies boss Joe Kinnear was gushing with praise for the Cameroon International.

“I would hang my hat on him,” Kinnear said.

“M’Bia has played (15) games for Cameroon, Rennes are up near the top (of Ligue 1), he is a great player, the nearest thing I`ve seen to Patrick Vieira. He would be a big plus for us.”

It is understood that Rennes are currently considering United’s bid for the 22-year-old, and that an answer could sent as early as Friday evening.

@Chizzy_Toon : When and where did Joe say that ?

The only other player i can think of is Remi Gomis, he plays for Caen as a midfielder, box to box type, decent player but i don’t think he’s good enough.

PS: oh and i think there is also a Gomis somehwere in Scotland but i imagine he’s horrible.

I hate it when people say things like “Be careful what you wish for”. It makes me want to spit on the floor and slap them with a heavy leather glove. However…..we’ve craved some communication from the club and the result is ridiculous soundbites and consistently contradictory outcomes following JK’s comments or claims. I have no idea whether it’s premeditated and intentional spin or whether it’s a combination of wishful thinking and poor judgement on his part. Either way, he’s been hung out to dry for the last few weeks in particular and it’d be interesting to know if that is a condition of his role and perhaps always was or whether he really is just a cheeky, chirpy gobs**te.

HE is free to discuss deals with any club and there is nowt the hammers can do about it. However, if Neill says he wants to come now, then we have to go through the club. With them being in the financial shit, if we offer £1 million then they would snap our hands off as he goes for nothing in 4 months. They are desperate to not look desperate for money but everyone knows they are. When Man City get bored with them and look elsewhere they will be gutted. They want 25 million for Bellamy and Parker and it won’t happen. If newcastle want Neill they will get him, despite anything west ham say or do to the contrary. Really hope we can get 4 or 5 in though as we are struggling and he doesn’t want to give the young lads a chance.
