One of the keys to victory tomorrow is that our defense put in a strong performance at Ewood Park, and hopefully can again keep a clean sheet – and one of the key players in our defense these days is 22 year-old Frenchman Sebastien Bassong.
Sebastien Bassong – important he has another good game tomorrow
Seb was disappointed at going out of the FA Cup on Wednesday, but knows we only have the league to concentrate on now:
Bassong spoke to the Evening Chronicle today:
“We have to get back to the league now and we must concentrate on Blackburn.” “After the Hull game we knew we had to forget about it very, very quickly.”
“In some ways it was a good thing that we had this game so soon after Hull, even though I know the manager has plenty of injury problems.”
“And we have to forget about all of the events of Wednesday night.” “If we don’t, we will find it difficult to get three points because that is what we are aiming for tomorrow.”
Bassong has been part of a Newcastle defense which has played particularly well away from home this season, but has just leaked far too many goals at St. James’ Park.
But Newcastle have still kept four clean sheets from their last five away ganes.
“That’s something positive that we can build on.” “We have defended very well in some matches recently away from home.”
“It bodes well when you hold Chelsea to 0-0, and if you can do it there, you feel you can at any club.”
“These are things we have to remind ourselves of.” “We only have the league to think about now.”
“So we can concentrate on having a good run between now and the end of the season.”
“People say we have tough games, but we have to show what we are made of.”
A strong defensive performance tomorrow, and some goals against a Blackburn side that has leaked 17 goals in their 10 home league games would be nice.
Blacburn have conceded 36 goals this season, second worst only to WBA who have conceded one goal more, and while they have tightened up under Big Sam, we may still be able to get the result we all want tomorrow afternoon by 5:00 pm – a win – wouldn’t that be sweet.
