Edgar, Enrique Start – Barton, Taylor, Gutierrez On Bench

blackburn_crestnufc-crest4

A pleasant surprise today in the squad as Joey Barton returns to the Newcastle United bench, having been sidelined because of cruciate ligament knee damage since the middle of November.

Joe Kinnear makes two changes to the side which was beaten 1-0 by Hull City in midweek, with both Andy Carroll and Jose Enrique coming in for Xisco and Jonas Gutierrez, who drop down to the bench.

That means Charles N’Zogbia will revert to a left wing midfield role, where he is joined by Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt and Damien Duff.

This is the second time recently that Charles has been preferred to Jonas, but at least Joe Kinnear will have Gutierrez to call on if either Duff or N’Zogbia aren’t playing well.  The last time Jonas came on he was the star man at Hull City.

And David Edgar keeps his place at right-back and Steven Taylor has to do with a place on the bench, so this is a big opportunity for the young 21 year old Canadian, with his second start in a row – an interesting move by Kinnear.

The bench is also a lot stronger and is as follows – Steve Harper, Joey Barton, Jonas Gutierrez, Xisco, Steven Taylor, Tamas Kadar, Kazenga LuaLua

It’s great to have Joe Barton back on the bench. and we would expect him to come on at some point in the second half, but this has to be good news for the team.

Howay The Lads!! – get that win and then we’ll all celebrate tonight!

Well interesting choice of leaving Jonas on the bench but i assume he does need a little rest…..he’s been playing every game.

Also brilliant news that Barton is back on the bench, hope we see him play …..

Howay, we should be able to sneak this !!!!

With Tugay, Andrews, Butt and Guthrie in the middle of the park today, the game could become stationary 🙂

Jonas needs a rest, so it is a good choice to have him as a sub.

Jonas and Barton to come on around 65-70th minute.

I think Jonas needs a rest has looked tired in stages of the last 2 games. But really worried as he’s our most creative player.
Great to see Joey back, hope he comes on we look better when he plays in the center.

@nufc1818, that is likely mate, however i would prefer him getting a yellow today, the to be potentially suspended for the Sunderland game.

I said this in another thread but tactical with Jonas on bench. He burns himself out in the first half.

COME ON LADS – BARTON ON THE BENCH AND ENRIQUE BACK CAN ONLY BE GOOD NEWS.

    COME ON TOON!!!!!!

PS: Hope the injured aint rushed back and do more injury!!

Please lads, beat that arrogant old tosser, Allardyce. Otherwise, he’ll never shut up about Newcastle, and how we sacked the greatest tactical genius we ever had.

If Bellamy does join Man City he should not be allowed to line up against us. Will that not be 3 times he could play against us in the league this season.

I can’t believe the stick Xisco is getting for missing a sitter after not playing for months, that bucket of sh*te Owen has been playing consistently and still misses sitters every week. Get rid!

great to see barton back, also for me, good news to see jonas on the bench. i have not really liked him that much, full of huff and puff with no end product. reminds me of robbie savage, running everywhere doing very little. its a good line up. beats the shit out of me why jfk keeps banging on about injuries, with the exception of martind, he has the team he would prob pick anyway. i think a draw.

Cant understand JFK’s thinking, think its the old fellow countrymans favour, unless he gives belting head!! Only Joe knows.
