Barton To Repay Newcastle For Standing By Him

There has been news in the papers over the last two weeks that Bolton have been bidding for Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton, and even talk about Mike Ashley wanting Joey out of the club, because of his past bad behavior and the fact he has done time in jail recently.

Joey Bartron – going nowhere – wants to repay club

The good news is that Joey Barton wants to stay at Newcastle to rebuild his career, after apparently snubbing three top-flight clubs during the transfer window, according to the News Of The World.

The troubled midfielder, who returned as a substitute yesterday, after two months out with cruciate ligament damage in his right knee, has attracted interest from Wigan, Bolton and Portsmouth.

But Joey Barton wants to pay back the Newcastle club, which has stood by him through his bad antics and jail time, and he is so determined to be a success on Tyneside that he has bought a house in Jesmond.

The proverbial source close to the player said:

“He feels he owes the club,” “Joey has been backed by the supporters and he wants to make a go of it there.”

“Boss Joe Kinnear has told Joey he is part of his plans. They have a good relationship. He’s bought a house in the area and is raring to go.”

Joe Kinnear has been handed £10M by Mike Ashley to reinforce the squad in January, and after yesterday’s hammering at Blackburn Kinnear must do that, or else have the dubious distinction of being the first manager who takes Newcastle United  down and out of the Premier League.

Kinnear may also spend any money he can get through deals and Geremi is on the verge of moving to Besiktas in a £1.8M deal, but wants to stay at the club, probably because the Greek side can come nowhere near to the wages he is getting on Tyneside.

Someone tell the NOTW that Barton has done his time. He has paid his dues to society now he has to pay his dues to the fans of NUFC. And by the way NOTW, it is not Barton we want to leave but Coca Cola Ashley and Dennis The Menace Wise who should go.

I wasn’t too happy when we signed Barton to be honest, but circumstances have changed and the simple fact is that we need him now. I hope he manages to stay free of injuries and suspensions for the rest of the season and just shows us what a good player he undoubtedly is, without all that other baggage that we’ve seen in the past.

    ps Ed
Good advice on the right hand side of this page re Firefox. A few of the posters on this blog have been recommending it recently, and it is a much better and safer browser. I’m sure that anyone who tries Firefox wouldn’t ever want to go back to using Internet Explorer again.

I am a huge Joey Barton fan and right now, he is our most important player.

Tough and will fight for the cause. We need him in the center of our midfield firing up the troops, and getting us out of this mess.

If I had my way, he would have the Captains Armband on and be leading the others out on the pitch.

Joey Barton is our one hope.

I would go for Barton and Guthrie in the middle till the end of the season. They both put their all into the game and I think would make a feisty midfield pairing.

I’m not a fan of Barton, but at least he shows some enthusiasm for football, the club or whatever…

Oh, and Ed, Besiktas is a Turkish side, not Greek 🙂

If Barton wants to pay his dues to the fans then the best thing he could do is agree to a move and allow us to get some money back on him so that we can bring in a decent midfielder.

Qualities to look for in his replacement?

The ability to hold the ball.
The ability to complete a pass – preferably to others wearing the same colour shirt.
The ability to tackle without leaving the opponent on a stretcher / in the third row / in a retirement home/ in need of a blood tranfusion.
The ability to retain a level head and not lash out at the first sign of disagreement – particularly with those wearing the the same colour shirt.

To those who say he has done his time, I would suggest suffixing that statement with “so far”.
We can be pretty sure that there is more Barton to come.

Joey Barton is the type of player we need right now. He needs to tell players like Enrique, who keeps making mistakes every single game, that there playing crap.

He is the only player who will point the finger at people and tell them straight.

AussieToon – I tend to agree, but I don’t think he’s quite ready for the captain’s armband just yet. He would need to spend the rest of the season setting a good example both on and off the pitch to even be considered, and with his track record I just can’t see it happening 🙁

”He wants to repay the club”. Don’t make me laugh Ed. We are the only mugs who were stitched up by the allegedly shrewd Allardyce to pay him 60K a week!!!! Barton is in it for himself, no one else. Same for Geremi.

Barton and Joke kinnear are a couple of yobs.
Channelled aggression is one thing, but having a public spat with your own team mate doesn’t do wonders for team spirit and just plays in to the opposition’s hands.

For 60K a week, Barton is largely unavailable due to incarceration, suspension or an amazingly poor fitness record, possibly brought on by his ”lifestyle”.

For 3M I would get rid asap and bring in Sissoko / M’bia / Larsson or any creative midfield player ( a la Solano – younger version) who keeps himself fit and out of trouble.

I wish Kinnear would stop blaming refs, although Styles and Dean are a disgrace and address his own alarming limitations.

Also why keep playing players who don’t want to be here. Given (use Krul), N’Zogbia (use Lua Lua) and Owen (use Ranger.)

As a player I didn’t always like what Shearer did, but listening to him on MOD, he does talk sense even if some peple think he is dull and bland.

If not Shearer, then next season we need one from Houllier, Ranieri, Van Gall, Advocaat, Jol or Martinez. Not quite the top, but if we’re still in the EPL, a million times better than we have right now.

Give Joey the armband straight away. We are desperate for people to start pointing the finger and taking responsibility. I’ve never seen Barton give anything less than 100%. He is totally committed and we just need a few more like and him, Given, Bassong etc. All us toon fans want is 11 lads who care and will give it their all. The high earners who don’t give a monkeys all need to be moved on asap. Owen’s wages are a disgrace when we can’t even afford a decent bid for new players.

Joey is a damm good player and I dont mean to point out the obvious but we need as many good players as possible out there at the minute….

so anyone out there who is still on their moral high horse, get off it and support the lads who go out there and give their all !!

According to Kinnear in his rant
“Negative pair the two of ya, f*****g negative”

I’m pointing the finger at a lot here too. We’re Newcastle United we’ve the best fans in the world and if we get behind the team they’l deliver. Yesterday was unlucky and now it’s City away which i believe we can win.
What do you thinks Spurs are thinking lying bottom of the table ffs? We’re 13th, ahead of both our rivals showing that we’re the best side in the North East!
We’re not going down and we’ve to remain optimistic, like we all did under Keegan.
It took keegan longer to get a win than Kinnear and Kinnear has more injuries.

He’s already proved he has something special about him and it’s not talking sh1te either. He gets the players motivated.

I’m sick of hearing all this negativity and tht players will develop that mentality. When we get our next win, things weill change and so will the opinions of some “fans” here.
