We thought it would be useful to take a look at our injury situation, since we need to get some of our players back as soon as possible, and in addition bring some new players in over the next next two weeks if we are to have a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League this season.
Habib Beye – no return date yet for the Senegal International
Here’s the Newcastle United current injury situation as we have taken it form the Physioroom.com Injury League Tables. As usual we have the most injuries of any Premier League team and are top of the league, which is our usual position in this table.
They still have Enrique and Barton down there, but since both played yesterday we now have 8 official injuries.
Here they are with the injury and return dates (back to training) where available:
Geremi Back Injury 17th Jan 09
Cacapa Knee Injury 1st Feb 09
S Ameobi Sprained Ankle 28th Jan 09
M Viduka Groin Strain 1st Feb 09
H Beye Knee Injury no return date
O Martins Groin 22nd Feb 09
I Gonzalez Achilles 14th Mar 09
A Smith Achilles 28th Jan 09
Let’s fact it – some of these players are vital and some are not.
The more important players to us from the list are probably Geremi, Ameobi, Beye and Martins. We’ve been without Viduka, Smith and Gonzalez for so long, we will hardly miss these players, and Cacapa will hardly be risked again at center-back, after his Fulham disaster.
But the main two players we are missing are Beye and Martins, there’s little doubt about that.
Our next game is on the 28th January at Eastlands, so we assume Gutierrez will be rested so he can get over his hamstring problems of late, and the same with Enrique, who is probably playing a little injured right now, so it’s a good chance to have those two rest up for a while before next week.
Geremi is almost fit, and Ameobi should be back soon, and may even make the game against Man City.
One of the big players missing for us is Habib Beye, and there’s some worries in the Newcastle camp about how long Habib, a really vital player for us, will be out, and he’s already had three opinions on his knee injury, but still no return date listed.
And we are surprised that Oba Martins, another big player for us, will be out until 22nd February with his groin, since Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck and her Munich Clinic usually have the players back within two weeks or so.
We assume Oba had his operation last Monday and Dr. Ulrike usually gives her opinion of when the player can play again, although we’ve heard nothing much about Oba, other than Joe Kinnear say he would be out for some weeks still.
And of course we don’t know exactly what the Martins problem is exactly, although he seemed almost fit without the injury so we are assuming it couldn’t be anything major. But that seems a long time before he’s back.
Of course Joe Kinnear would like to sell Geremi to Besiktas in January, and if he goes the £1.8M will be used to bring a new player through the door, and will also help with the loan deals, which we assume will still go through, unless of course we manage to get Stephane Mbia from Rennes, who can plug the central midfield spot.
But the very good news is that Joey Barton is back, and hopefully by the Manchester City game Enrique, Taylor, Gutierrez and hopefully Ameobi will all be fully fit again, and we could well have two loan signings through the door by then too, and Peter Lovenkrands signed as a free agent.
So that would give a bigger and better squad for Joe to choose from – but the big players we are missing are still Beye and Martins – no doubt about that.
What do you think?

Comment #81If we hear in two or three days that nowt is going to happen then that leads us to Wednesday and week before Citey and after the alleged behind the scenes match with Lovenk, 2 potential loan, 3 international u21’s.
It could be either a big week for us in this window and a case of put it down to another loads of crap spouted to show willing that something is happening.
KK said in the lastxfer window that the phone never stops during xfer windows. JFK’s probably doesnt even ring!

For me Colo has been involved in too many cock ups. Beye and jonas arent central players thats where we need to build. in my opinion.
I would personaly love Bullard great play great attitude hate to say it but wish we still had parker after todays performance

Comment #91Having looked at the available videos on Mbia – I dont think he is hte player we need – I really think we need a creative, attacking, pacy central midfielder. Mbia appears to be best at breaking down attacks and popping up in the box from set pieces (good traits but only when you have someone who can deliver the ball accurately) . I see Moutinho may be going to Everton on loan – surely there is the type of player we need and maybe available for loan – no doubt Wisey is, as I write this, in a potugese bar ……….

Comment #97We could do with Moutinho on load and buying MBIA, that would totally change our midfield for the best imagine a midfield like this

Comment #99If we were to aquire Mbia there would be hope of survival, playing him alongside Barton in mid field would give us some strength there, though we will have to bring in backups as Geremi is past it and Guthrie is not one for the long term.
We have three decent wingers who are also versitile, though apparently Zog wants out.
Cant say enough about Beye true professional,
hope to see some improvement in Enrique, has a tendancy to get caught upfield and his passes sometimes go astray, but has a surprising turn of speed.
Three fairly decent central defenders who have room for improvement, Bassong being the most promising.
M.O. willbe off (never looked happy @ the club)
in which case we will have to find someone to partner Martins.
Watched the Spurs Pompey game to-day, where Bent had a nightmare game, understandably so with Harry not picking him and a lack of playing time the guys confidence is at an alltime low.
However I believe he is still the club top scorer and could be had for a reasonable price.
I think he is a natural scorer and would match up well with Martins, though I suspect some may disagree.
Any how I believe theres going to be a fire sale come seasons end, get rid of the deadwood and get the team upto strength, thats if Joe gets his way and we survive relegation.
So come on Ash put out for Bbia, could be the best Mbuy you make !

Comment #101Deantoon – I dont see any creativity in the players you mention – plenty of box to box running, plenty of effort but very little creativity. We need someone who can actually see a pass and play it consistently – winning the ball is not the problem (well maybe) its what we do when we have it – which at the moment is give it straight back
