Joe Kinnear had the Newcastle fans turn on him for the very first time on Saturday, after the lads had put in a very good shift in the first 45 minutes and had looked a decent side. But then we fell apart after the penalty.
Joe Kinnear– cut out the excuses – and get on with it
But one of the things the traveling faithful will not have liked was the ineptitude once again of the Newcastle defense.
Ands the arguing between Enrique and Barton brought back memories of the disgraceful behavior under Graeme Souness of Dyer and Bowyer – and we do not want to see any more of that.
Joe talked to the Newcastle Journal this morning:
“I understand how the fans feel, they’ve been phenomenal since I came,” “The fans are crying out for success, and I’m not trying to hide from that. They want to see Newcastle do well and, in the second half, we disappointed them”
“They’re going to vent their anger and, nine times out of 10, it’s the manager that gets it. I suppose previous managers have had the same treatment, but I feel for them and understand where it comes from.”
“They don’t know the ins and outs of what’s happening at the club, and they don’t know just how tough it is. They might be chanting for their favourite player (Gutiérrez) but they have to understand he hasn’t trained this week.”
“The sad thing – and I’m going to hate saying it – is that being out of the (FA) Cup might be a blessing in disguise. I know we should have annihilated Hull (in last week’s third-round replay, which they lost 1-0), but it’ll give us two or three weeks to get players back.”
It even looks like Kinnear put on Gutierrez for the fans, but that may have been dangerous if he wasn’t fully fit.
There are a number of things Joe can do to get the fans behind him, because after all he has inherited the problems basically caused by the Newcastle Board, and it’s hard to blame either Keegan or Allardyce for the mess we are in right now.
Here’s a few pointers for Joe:
- Don’t make excuses – face the facts – Keegan was brilliant at that and even apologized if things sounded like excuses. Newcastle fans are sick of excuses – we’ve had far too many of them
- Get the lads playing 100% and together and show the pride and passion which is Newcastle United.
You can see that in our brilliant fans, who are acknowledged continually by those in football – including even Sam Allardyce after the game on Saturday
- Get players in during January – if we don’t do that, for whatever reason or excuse, we could be doomed and we will deserve it.
If the Board are not supporting Joe, then let the fans know what’s going on – we have absolutely no idea what Ashley or Llambias are thinking, and basically never have since they say nothing – all the time 😀
But the major thing Joe has to do is somehow strengthen the squad – while we can – even if it means going higher for Stephane Mbia – who certainly looks like somebody who can strengthen our squad.
But he will have a lot more clubs after him in the summer so get him now.
A good example of failing to do that was when we could have had Andrei Arshavan from St. Petersburg for £8M last January – but we didn’t do it.
Get Mbia now- please.
