Joe Kinnear has come out today and said he full appreciates the pain and frustration the Newcastle fans are feeling, as we seem to be moving into one of the most dangerous times we’ve ever had, of being relegated for the first time ever from the Premier League.
Joe Kinnear – understands the fans’ pain and frustration
The Newcastle fans are still getting over the shock of being taken to the cleaners in the second half by a Blackburn Rovers side that were 5 points behind us in the league before Saturday’s game yet ended up easy winners at 3-0.
We now have the worst points total ever in the Premier league after 22 games, and that’s saying something, since this is the 3rd season in a row the fans have been invited to support a team that is struggling against relegation, and it seems like it’s now an annual event.
Newcastle are just just two points above bottom place in the league, and we also have some difficult league games coming up.
Kinnear, who has the job of trying to save the team, with or without the requisite support from owner Mike Ashley and the Board, told the Evening Chronicle today:
“The fans must vent their anger – I understand that.” “In the first half at Blackburn the fans were as good as gold.”
“They were chanting, singing and enjoying themselves.” “But my hands are tied with what I can do for them.”
“It was a disappointing day for everybody.” “It would be different if I had every single player at the club available to me. But I haven’t, so what else can I do but battle on.”
“I have been criticized since I arrived here. But I have broad shoulders, and I know I am more than capable of keeping the club up.”
“Whatever happens, if I do stay I don’t want to be in this position in 12 months time.”
Kinnear has been offered a contract on Tyneside to stay at the club until 2011, but he has not immediately accepted the deal, because it seems he is unsure of owner Mike Ashley’s plans for the club, and whether Mike is really willing to fund the required number of new players into the club.
Mike Ashley’s words just don’t cut it, since he has not proved it with his actions, either last summer, or so far this January, that he really wants to rebuild Newcastle into as top club, which is all the fans want.
Joe continued:
“I need to have my own players and put my own stamp on the team.”
“Providing we stay up – we will rebuild.” “It’s crying out to be rebuilt.” “That’s what is needed.”
“At the moment I have to get the best out of what I’ve got because this is a patched-up team and people have been played out of position.”
Joe has done quite well until recently, when the team has been hit by injury, and in the the last 6 games we have four defeats and two draws, and the Spurs 2-1 victory was our last win.
The good news is that there are a lot more teams in the relegation quagmire this season, with just 5 points separating the bottom 10 teams.

“stardust he has promissed 20 mil a year where is the 20 mil a year ”
I will wait to see the company accounts before I hang any monkeys – though I do realise that he has lost 60% of his wealth since buying the club and he may need to re-appraise in light of the global circumstance.
As things stand you/I/we have no idea where he has had to put his cash to make sure the foundations for the future are strong. So again I sit and await evidence, not bitter hearsay and rumour.

If he came out and said “I’m gay!” No, I mean he said “I’m skint and I can’t invest as much is needed or as much as you like” we wuldn’t like it but we would know!
In fairness with our turnover and huge fan base we should be able to outspend the likes of Spurs,Bolton,Stoke,Portsmouth,Blackburn,Everton and the likes.
Unfortunately we haven’t done that and for that reason we will continue to struggle and ultimately it will send us down.
His plan of young players ect is great, but you’ve gotta look after the now as well. Ashley has overlooked that for some reason.
He probably just can’t afford to run the club. Just wish he’d say or get some investment in as he said he was trying to do like QPR.

Comment #134Stuart – Ive tried to explain to you re “But it doesn’t explain why the rest of the clubs seem to spend more than us!”
Ashley is going down a different tack, the present system means everyone but the top 4 pay top prices for second raters. Ashley has tried to put a system in place to break the status quo thats all – where we bring through young great talent (not sure JK is the man for that) and steadily improve over time. He said since day one it was a long term project.
I applaud much of what he has done – but the PR is in fact a disgrace – as its so simple to put right – costs nothing. But I lay the blame for that at llambias’s door – thats his responsibility. Mort knew it needed doing and did it – everyone was happy.

Comment #135startdust – Come on man!
You know as well as I do that it’s no good having the bst youngsters in the world if their all playing in the championship!
Without investment for the present investment for the future is worthless as there might not be as future! There’s got to be a balance but he’s way off on it!

Comment #137Agreed investments need to be made, but I am not bothered about the amount of money spent – 5 more bassongs and jonas’s please.
I dont think Ashley will be solely responsible if we go to the championship. the fans will have to take their share of the blame too knowing in the clubs time of need we preferred winging, twisting and hating instead of supporting.

Comment #142Sorry Stardust – You’ve just revealed yourself as Mackem!
How on earth can the fans take any blame what so ever if we go down?
We turn up every match in out thousands and support the team.
Ok we moan on blogs like this but we don’t do anything but give them all the support they don’t deserve on match days when it counts.
If were partly responsible for this diabolic mess then our only crime is turning up, shouting and singing for them and backing them!
If that’s the case would they be better of if we stayed away and they play in front of 2,000 fans every home game?
Who would you blame then?

Comment #145Disagree with you both totaly – read this blog to see how hate consumed most are. tehy have no rationalle left. I sit in the ground and one wrong pass by Enrique the whole ground goes mad, it spills onto the pitch and afects other player, the next wrong pass – why isnt ashley signing anyone, it spills down again. Until we all have a pro club realistic outlook we will be the architects of our own demise.
Being able to rationalise does not make you a pessimist, optimist or deluded. It just means you know the club comes before any single one of us.

Comment #153The Ashley formular for getting rid of high wage earners
1 Renewing contracts make them so low they will not be accepted (only if you’re Ameobi)
2 Get relegated star players will leave in seconds
3 To achieve this make sure you have a numpty
manager who really needs a job
Seems like the jobs done!

Comment #154lets all stop bagging kinnear,he might be getting fed this bull from higher up which makes him look like a liar.for what reason would he say things if he didnt think it.and remember he was the only fella that would take the reins of this club a few months ago.so all you fickle fans who are wanting him gone and replaced with a so called world class manager, just remember what it was like when everyone we turned to ,turned us down.the big problem is ashley and if he doesnt buy some reinforcements in the next two weeks, the proof is there.only ashley can release funds and joe cant be blamed for that.he’s doing his best with a half fit ,patched up bunch of losers.and for all you idiots who want young kids on the pitch in a relegation battle, you’ve obviously never played before.getting booed off the pitch by 50,ooo fans will ruin them.you bring kids on with 15 mins to go when your winning.

Comment #155I think Ashley is tight but at the same time…..look how much money the Spurs have spent and they are still shite.
I think its fair enough that he really wants players who are going to improve the team and if that means getting more young kids in so we can let the older ones go so be it.
We all know Owen wont be here, neither will viduka or Geremi and given and zog will probably both go this window. Its just wierd with us buying all these young players Joe does not go to the youth team when injury strieks but prefers to play an injured player?? How much confidence can that give the young fellas?
