News That Manchester City Now Bidding £15M For Given

There is news in the Daily Mail this morning that Manchester City may now increase their £9M offer they made for Shay Given over the weekend.

6294761

Michael Johnson – this player plus £9M may be too good to turn down

The new news today, and we have no idea if there is any truth to this, is that they may add Michael Johnson into the proposed deal for the Newcastle goalkeeper.

But Joe Kinnear is said to be keen on capturing Michael Johnson, the 20 year-old midfield player, who has been hampered by injury this season, and if they throw Johnson in the deal, that could raise the price they are offering for Given to around £15M. with Johnson worth around £6M in the transfer market.

And as that price continues to rise, expect Newcastle at some point to agree to the deal, since every player has their price, and Manchester City are probably positioned better than any club on the planet right now, to offer silly money for Given, and we should probably take it, once the price offered gets silly enough.

Steve Harper is more than capable of filling in for Given through the end of the season and we also have two excellent 20 year-old goalkeepers in Fraser Forster and Tim Krul, who can fill the substitutes bench.

So if indeed this offer is true, we’d be surprised if Joe Kinnear didn’t reassess the situation because he will then get £9M to spend, plus a very good youngster in Michael Johnson, when the lad is fully fit.

And of course not only would we get Michael, but Joe could go out and get both Stephane Mbia and Adil Rami, who would probably cost us around £16M for the pair, after some decent negotiating down – of the price their clubs want for them.

And add another £1.8M to the transfer cash for Geremi to Besitkas, to the £10M Joe gets from Ashley, and Joe will still have £5.8M to spend on additional players, and would be in a good position.

Of course this all assumes the report is true about Given.

Off topic but on the subject of tansfers and who does what.
It appears that the Guardian are picking up tensions with Wise and this time its Kinnear.

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jan/19/newcastle-relegation-kinnear-ashley-transfer

Keegan, Kinnear, who’s at the root of both problems? Here’s a clue, the name doesn’t begin with K!

Why does Ashley persist with Wise?~

Make it $12mill and Johnson and we are talking business. At that point we offer it to Shay. If he says no we stick with him if he says yes we get a good potentially great midfielder and money to spend on new recruits plus we can give Harper the chance he has been waiting for all these years. make him top man pay him a good wage and get another few years out of him allowing one of our youngster goal keepers to get a place on the bench.

Given (no pun intended) that there’s bound to be malcontent in the dressing room, is it a cert that Harper’ll sign up?

I ain’t sure and honestly and sadly, see relegatation as a reality.

Either because he’s being guided by incompetants or by design, Ashley appears to be presiding over the demise of a once great club.

Is he mad? Can he afford to lose £100m?

Either try for another 3 million, or try to get Onouha in the deal as well.

£9m plus Johnson would be very hard to turn down. Johnson is a good young player and would fit straight into our midfield. We do have Harper, Krul and Forster so we have plenty of good keepers to cover that position.

But there’s only one Shay Given.

I think its a GREAT deal for us.

I would be happy with 8m + Johnson and Onouha

Then we would have a backup RB and EXCELLENT MD.

So then we would have 18m to spend + 1.8 from Geremi = 19.8m

    M’Bia = 8m
    Rami = 7m
    Sturridge = 2.8m

2m left over maybe get Baines?

    —————Harper/Krul—————–
    Beye/Onouha–Colo–Bassong—Baines/Enrique
    Jonas—M’Bia—Johnson-Barton–Duff-Zog
    ————-Martins—Owen-Sturridge——–

Not a bad team AT all.

All we need then is a Right Winger AND another BIG striker ( Young Maybe Sturridge)

is more than capable of filling in for Given

don’t always make me laugh please..

harper is just a below average keeper..

he always make silly mistake such as mistake verus liverpool..that 70m lob shot

if sell given..sell him and let krul do the first choice..

it’s enough to see a keeper without potential and ability to start for the club..!

Either given stay or not..we should sell harper to tottenham!he’s just not good enough

Hate to say it because we should not be a club who must sell our best players but I would take this bid. Shay has been excelent for us but it looks like he want to move on and we cant blame him for that. Wish him all the luck in the world!

Time for Harper to sign the new contract and take the nr 1 shirt.

How the thing can worse than now ?

Ok, we sell Given but if we still tie Harper up to 1st choice and Krul going to 2nd. We’ll be fine.

Whatever happen, even world fall down we still have the way to go. I don’t care and surprise anymore with our club, the most coward and shameful chairman and his board in the world.

Despite all the crap, you have to take a balanced view. I hate Kinnear being the manager as he is just very poor. However, to get 9M + Johnson for a nearly 33 year old whose body language clearly shows he doesn’t want to be here is fantastic business.

We also know that Harper or Krul can come off their line, communicate with their defence and have good distribution.

Not defending Ashley at all but would you want to be bled dry in in wages for Viduka, Smith, Geremi, Duff, Butt, Cacapa et al.

I know I would be looking for younger, hungrier players, rather than doing another Allardyce and buying all those ”deadbeats”. But I’d also want a manager who could develop them and give them a chance.

Kinnear just makes players feel unwanted and not enjoying their game. Would it really kill to see Krul, Kadar, Lua, Tozer and Ranger being introduced. Especially when we do have quality in Martins, Bassong, Colo, Spidey, Harper, Guthrie etc.

I’m going to start a campaign.

    PLAY KAZENGA LUA LUA

Every time I’ve seen this lad come on he’s added something dynamic to our team. He’s forward thinking, can dribble, puts opposition defenders on the back foot and wants to score. His distribution hasn’t looked bad either.

He deserves a run in the team from what I’ve seen. Anyone agree?

Ed i reported to this sight several weeks ago that Johnson has an alcahol problem; which is the MAIN reason why City are interested in letting him go! They are hiding his lack of games this season behind injury but this is not the case!

Johnson has the potential to become the finest midfielder in England; Arsenal wanted to buy him last year; however it is no co-incidence that Wenger’s interest has dissapeared after the lads personal problems have come to light!

The better deal would be Onouha plus cash with a loan deal for elano until the end of the season!

(…off course i sound like a f@cking idiot really….i’m living on cloud 9 as i don’t believe we have the nouse or capability of pulling of such a deal with this clueless bunch of amateurs running the club…)

Keep the Faith….despite how low we may feel; despite how bad it might get, it will get better at some point, we will come again…..we always do!

We must be careful with Johnson because he has played very little since his breakthrough season and so we must be certain there are no underlying reasons for that.

But if we could get him and back playing this potential he would represent a great piece of business.

I’d still push for Onuoha though as with Given on a lengthy contract still and with us having no debt we are in a strong negotiating position considering Allardyce has said Santa Cruz will cost £40m and Bent was sold by Charlton for £17m after relegation, which also saw their ladies team shut down before that deal was struck.

If money is an issue and we need to bring players in, 9 mill plus Johnson is too good to turn down.

As a kid I was that sad individual known as a goalkeeper. I won numerous awards based not so much on my ability as on the lack of ability of those around me. Would you really expect a goalkeeper who let in an average of 5 goals a game to get player of the season awards?
I did, and regularly. My team was garbage, which made me look good.
Theres something wrong when you go out of a cup match in the first round, losing 11-0 and your keeper gets man-of-the-match

With a more solid defence the Toon wouldnt need Given-like heroics 10 times a game.

Also take into consideration that if we had a goalkeeper who was 6’4″ and dominant in the air, we wouldn’t miss one that’s 5’11” and making phenomenal reaction saves from 6 yards out.

Given is the best shot stopper in the league, but when was the last time you saw him flatten an opponent while on his way to claim an outswinging corner?

Get us a bigger half decent keeper who eats centre forwards for breakfast, and we can afford to lose our brilliant small one.

KN – I was just about to point out that johnson is on the city injured list with no return date:

    http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php

Injured or alcoholic he ain’t much use to us if he can’t play. Saying that I’d still be tempted. He looks a class act and if he does have a booze problem that can be overcome. We prob are in a place now where we can only attract players with baggage. Not like we haven’t had any practice with problem players – part and parcel of being a toon fan.

A 15m bid will mean Shay leaving. It is not Joe’s decision. It will be that little tow-rag Wise who decides. Would not put it past the little goblin to have been on the hooter to Man City saying he will sell at a higher price. Mark my words. Our club has a bad case of worms! Will not blame Shay for not being repaid for his loyalty but we do have Harper. Harper is a fine replacement too.

Could this be another Milner scenario in the making?

How much of the £9m will be spent on players?

I’m desprately depressed at the fact were having to sell our best players to survive in the PL.

Maybe that’s why Kinnear has been offered a new deal, he kept Wimbledon up selling their best player every year!

Ashley and Wise have got to go NOW!!!!

Sorry but I don’t care how we do it and if it effects the teams form. It’s for the long run that w have to do this.

Him and his cronies will take us down anyway so does it really matter if us stiring up a bit trouble for Ashley effects the players?

I don’t think the players can be anymore de motivated!!!!!!

    Help save our club!!!!
