Taylor, Barton and Geremi Play In Friendly Game

Newcastle United players Steven Taylor and Joey Barton handed Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear some very rare good news this afternoon in today’s behind-closed-doors friendly with Carlisle United, which ended 1-1.

And the main news we can report, is that absolutely nobody was injured this afternoon – amazing.  😀

Stephen Taylor – scored in friendly game today

The Evening Chronicle is reporting this afternoon that Joey Barton played the full game while Steven Taylor played and scored against Carlisle United, after missing the last two matches with a calf injury, even though he was on the bench on Saturday.

Also in action was Danish international winger Peter Lovenkrands while Cameroon midfielder Geremi, seemingly fit again, also appeared for Newcastle.

Joe Anyinsah opened the scoring for Carlisle after just eight minutes before Taylor leveled it with a low shot on the turn into the bottom corner – the local lad would have liked that.

Taylor said:

“It was tremendous to get a good run out and I was delighted with the goal to be honest.”

“I stopped short of my usual celebration routine but it was nice to score.”

Well presumably that means that Barton, Geremi and Taylor are now fully fit again, and there’s no word whether Alan Smith got a run out, but there is also hope that Alan may be included in the squad for the Manchester City game.

At least some of our injuries seem to be clearing up – and that has to be good news, through the doom and gloom hanging over St. James’ Park at the moment.

We should also be hearing shortly whether Joe will take free agent Peter Lovenkrands for the rest of the season.

Comments welcome.

Also some interesting news on the young finnish player who probably played today as well.

    From Setanta

Finland Under-21 defender Jukka Raitala is on a week-long trial at Newcastle.

The 20-year-old HJK Helsinki starlet, who can play at left back or centre back, has played 46 games for his side and will now be given the chance to impress at St James’ Park.

HJK’s sporting director of the Tuomo Saarnio told the official HJK website: “Newcastle is a really high-class club. Jukka played well last season in the league and the Under-21 team gave him his chance.”

“We wish Jukka good luck on behalf of the whole club.”

Raitala is thought to rated at around £450,000.

We are paying around the £500,000 mark for a lot of these young players. Add that up and you have a few million quid. Jermain Pennant would cost £2 million as well. I really don’t know why we are not in for him.

Sounds like a decent deal. 9m plus Onuoha and Johnson. Joe would then send that 9m to get Mbia as well, meaning we have four quality CM players:

    M’Bia, Barton, Johnson, Guthrie.

This would allow us to ship off Geremi and let Butt’s contract run out. We would be set in central midfield in my opinion.

    http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_4822655,00.html

Fred is available for free, and I think we should bring him up here. Him and Martins up front next season (If and when Owen leaves us) wouldn’t be so bad. They would compliment eachother well, both mid-20s too which is nice. Have Carroll, Shola and Xisco as bacup I suppose, while shipping off Smith in the summer and letting Viduka’s contract expire.

Fred would be intresting but why is he avalible on a free? Bring him for a trial! After all, we could need a new forward in the summer when Michael Owen leaves.

if the deal for those 2 players in a wap with given and cash is true it has to be taken, for the good of the club, i’ll miss given, but he deserves better and we need a midfield more than a keeper.
