Toon Transfer Tittle Tattle Today On Tyneside

Things this morning in the transfer market for Newcastle United don’t look to different from yesterday – and it seems to be utter chaos at the moment.

Peter Lovenkrands in trial match today

Here’s what we know on the transfer news today:

  • The news is that Kinnear may be forced to sell Shay Given against Joe’s better judgment to Man City and the price is either £8M, £9M or as much as £15M, depending on which reports you believe.
  • Today we have the trial match where a Newcastle eleven will play Carlisle United behind closed doors, and we will have Peter Lovenkrands playing along with our two potential loan signings, although the identity of these two has still not been determined.
We also have three Scandinavians playing and one or two teenagers, who have either been signed or on trial at the club.
We would hope to have some news about who Joe wants to sign later today – hopefully – and even the identity of the two potential loan signings.
  • The news in the papers today say that our Cameroon midfield player Geremi is now anxious to leave Newcastle and join Besitkas. This is almost the opposite of what we heard in the last few days from the player himself, that he wanted to stay at Newcastle. But we’d be very surprised if Besitkas can pay the £60K/week Geremi is reported to be getting on Tyneside, and we’re sure that will be a problem for the player.
  • Newcastle have turned down a £500K offer from Harry Redknapp for Steve Harper, not the £2M that was in the papers yesterday, and it seems both of our loyal and long serving goalkeepers, who are a little dismayed at the happenings at the club over the last 4 months are in demand, and even may want to end their ties on Tyneside.
  • It looks like Newcastle will test the waters again at West Ham with a £2M bid for Lucas Neill, since it now seems clear that Gianfranco Zola has to sell some of his players in January. Bellamy has gone for a way overpriced £14M deal to Man City – who seem determined to be the new Chelsea in overpaying for players.
  • The Newcastle Journal is reporting that Kinnear will have a new defender on board by the end of the week, but exactly who that may be, we have no idea, and it seems neither do the Newcastle Journal. It may be Adil Rami of Lille – or Lucas Neill, or most probably somebody out of right field, that we’ve never heard of. As long as he’s a good player – the news will be welcomed by Newcastle fans.
  • It also looks like Joe is getting as frustrated as Kevin Keegan was last summer in the transfer market, with very little progress being made.
If the same thing happens to Joe as happened to Keegan last summer, we’ll at least get to know what really is going on from Kinnear, since he will spill the beans on what is going on behind closed doors – certainly the only thing the fans see is no progress at all in the first 20 days of the transfer market.
Maybe Dennis Wise is trying to run the show – again.

That’s it – comments very welcome.

What is Redknapp on, offering 500k for Harper? If you can pay 15 million for Defoe, you can certainly pay more than 500,000 for Harper…

There was also talk of Rod Fanni too Ed. JK was scouting M’Bia, and Rami, but Fanni was also on show!

Wise IS running the club! Llambias is just a Casino manager, Ashley is just a casino player, and Joe is the bouncer on the door. Heaven knows what the goblin will do when he is in Newcastle today! Will he arrive with a fanfare of strumpets?

I am gutted the way things have gone and the way things are headed..this to me does not seem like a club that is hell bent on premiership survival this season.

The impression I get is Ashley again refuses to back a manager with much needed quality senior reinforcements…see you all in the championship soon.

i think Given will go, he has clearly had enough but Joe at this rate wont have time to spend the money.

I can’t believe it’s taken till now for JFK to work realise what his paymasters are really like. I almost feel sorry for him – he’s just starting to realise what everyone else on the planet has been saying all along.

Wise is an egositical control-freak who will happily screw over the manager to make a point, Ashley just doesn’t get what owning a club means and requires, and Llambias is something out of a Guy Ritchie movie, with about as much grasp of the plot.

Still, we can’t fully judge until Feb 2nd – but it ain’t looking good and I think the industrial-strength egg catapult is loaded and pointing straight at Joe’s face.

10 days left in the window…..i’m willing to bet that we’ll sign no one, except maybe Lovenkrands, but we will remain in the EPL and then it all starts again in the summer…..we’ll be here again with nothing changed in next January too….. 🙁

Mike Ashley is running the club with Wise and Llambias carrying out his instructions.

Kinnear is there to coach the team nothing more.

Wise decides on who to buy or sell.

Fanni on show? Isn’t Viduka knackered?

Maybe there’s some confusion and we’re actually getting Rod Wallace on trial.

I think ‘running the club’ is an inappropriate phrase unless you follow it with “into the ground”.

I suppose there’s always the chance that we’ll get Mbia plus a couple of full-backs on loan.

Let’s hope today is the first day of the transfer window for us. After all we now have around two weeks without a meaningful game and therefore a prime opportunity to dedicate time on new faces.

The more I think about it & observe what is happening at Man Citehhh, I think we should be saying “Yes, Given is for sale, but on OUR terms & OUR asking price of £25m”. Look at Big Sam, asking for £40m for Santa Cruise.

I’d personally prefer Cash + two players so the big fat greedy w*nker can’t pocket the cash, to subsidise any money he will lose when he does find a buyer for our club…

NUFC – The footballing giant that has fallen back asleep!!!

It does make me slightly anxious that Kinnear would say something like “I’d hang my hat on him” when describing Mbia and yet he’d never seen him live and when he did he had a stinker by all accounts. Also that we might contemplate bringing in Johnson who has either emotional or physical issues right now depending on which rumours you believe. Great prospect but do we really need another wounded bird to mend and then rely on given our predicament. Do we ever learn from our mistakes?

Not sure if this is old news:

Kinnear will look at Hungary Under-19 international striker Andras Gosztonyi, of MTK Budapest, and two Norwegian youngsters, Per Egil Flo and Even Hovland, both Sogndal IL.

Flo, a left-back, is a relative of executive director (football) Dennis Wise’s former Chelsea team-mate Tore Andre Flo, while Hovland is a centre-half.

However, unlike Lovenkrands, they would not be first-team signings.
Lovenkrands trained with United all last week, and Kinnear is expected to offer the winger, who is out of contract after leaving Schalke 04 last month, a short-term deal to the end of the season.

Kinnear, meanwhile, was understood to have watched Stade Rennais midfielder Stephane Mbia in action against Lille last night.

However, Mbia was largely ineffective, and was withdrawn late in the game, which Lille won 1-0.

Are the 2 ‘loan’ players included in tonights game or have they bitten the dust completely ?

There was all this talk about, oh wait 24 hrs and then with Joes watch broken we are still waiting and Joe wont talk about them anymore, which is unusual for a man who likes to talk rubbish at every chance.

    I have a feeling they wont !

David Craig says they are playing at SJP (yesterday) even though other reports say they are at the training ground.

Im inclined to beleive David Craig as he is the man when it come to factual accuracy 🙂

Regards JK and his contradictions, I don’t know how –

    a) he doesn’t have a huge smile on his face while he’s feeding us his prefabricated lies
    b) he sleeps at night – the geet big fibber

I fully expect him to take it a step further and say next “I hear Robinho has disappeared from Man City’s training camp, I wonder which club he could be talking to right now? Him his mate Kaka……” and then wink knowingly into the camera.

Rod Fanni might have a amusing name, but he’s also a smashing defender. His style reminds me of Thuram, Fanni is a great right full back. However, he won’t come cheap as he made hes debut for France last season.

I have no faith in the news that Joke Kinnear is playing two unnamed italian and argie internationals in the match tonight, no international player would play in a trial to get a contract for NUFC. Get real, this will never happen.

Løvenkrands is probably the only trialist along with the 3 kids Wise is hoping to sign.
