Things this morning in the transfer market for Newcastle United don’t look to different from yesterday – and it seems to be utter chaos at the moment.
Peter Lovenkrands in trial match today
Here’s what we know on the transfer news today:
- The news is that Kinnear may be forced to sell Shay Given against Joe’s better judgment to Man City and the price is either £8M, £9M or as much as £15M, depending on which reports you believe.
- Today we have the trial match where a Newcastle eleven will play Carlisle United behind closed doors, and we will have Peter Lovenkrands playing along with our two potential loan signings, although the identity of these two has still not been determined.
We also have three Scandinavians playing and one or two teenagers, who have either been signed or on trial at the club.
We would hope to have some news about who Joe wants to sign later today – hopefully – and even the identity of the two potential loan signings. - The news in the papers today say that our Cameroon midfield player Geremi is now anxious to leave Newcastle and join Besitkas. This is almost the opposite of what we heard in the last few days from the player himself, that he wanted to stay at Newcastle. But we’d be very surprised if Besitkas can pay the £60K/week Geremi is reported to be getting on Tyneside, and we’re sure that will be a problem for the player.
- Newcastle have turned down a £500K offer from Harry Redknapp for Steve Harper, not the £2M that was in the papers yesterday, and it seems both of our loyal and long serving goalkeepers, who are a little dismayed at the happenings at the club over the last 4 months are in demand, and even may want to end their ties on Tyneside.
- It looks like Newcastle will test the waters again at West Ham with a £2M bid for Lucas Neill, since it now seems clear that Gianfranco Zola has to sell some of his players in January. Bellamy has gone for a way overpriced £14M deal to Man City – who seem determined to be the new Chelsea in overpaying for players.
- The Newcastle Journal is reporting that Kinnear will have a new defender on board by the end of the week, but exactly who that may be, we have no idea, and it seems neither do the Newcastle Journal. It may be Adil Rami of Lille – or Lucas Neill, or most probably somebody out of right field, that we’ve never heard of. As long as he’s a good player – the news will be welcomed by Newcastle fans.
- It also looks like Joe is getting as frustrated as Kevin Keegan was last summer in the transfer market, with very little progress being made.
If the same thing happens to Joe as happened to Keegan last summer, we’ll at least get to know what really is going on from Kinnear, since he will spill the beans on what is going on behind closed doors – certainly the only thing the fans see is no progress at all in the first 20 days of the transfer market.
Maybe Dennis Wise is trying to run the show – again.
That’s it – comments very welcome.

Comment #41The loan pair are really annoying.
For JFK to come out and mention it to fans and then to completely shut shop on the matter without any explanation is totally disrespectful towards the fans.
Look at me groaning about disrespect, i should be bloody use to it by now.
We are the most unappreciated fans of any football club.

Comment #42I see Pompey are close to signing Pennant according to Adams.
DC claims we have a bid too. If true it appears we can not compete with Pompey either.

Comment #44I am absolutely and totally gutted with the way Newcastle is run and I can not see anything changing.
Cashley is playing us good and well.
My hubbie said along time ago that he thinks Cashley wants to get one over on the fans and now I am agreeing with him.
david craig you talk aload of rubbish and no nothing more than the rest of us.
one minute Joking says he is getting loan signings the next minute he says he will not get loan signings.
I can’t believe and I really mean can’t believe that we have gone so low since Shepherd left, that the best we can hope for is loan signings and are even talking about selling Given.
If we as fans stand back and do nothing then we deserve what we get.
Is this still OUR NUFC or are well just going to let Cashley do what he likes.
It may be his club our paper, but it is our club by NAME lets make a stand, so at least we can say we tried.

Comment #48For whatever reason the club decided not to go ahead with the loan signings.
I suspect it was as a result of receiving the Given bid and deciding to bring in players on permanant deals.

Comment #51I like most fans would rather JFK comes out and says
“Right fans, we have no money and even if we generate money with sales, Mr Ashley is going to keep it all. Ok now stop your moaning and get behind the team or clear off.”

Comment #60It might have been said before but I had a sinking feeling when harking back to JK and his Italian and Argentinian players. I could always go back and check but I can’t be bothered – however, at any point did he actually state they were ‘internatonals’? Or did he just tells us their nationalities?

Comment #61If indeed City are offering £9m plus Johnson then that would be a very good bit of business I think and would allow us to rebuild. It will be interesting to see the outcome of todays game, i hope all the youngsters do well and we can bring them in, were certainly forming one of the best young reserves sides around which is good news for our future for sure, just look at Arsenal and Man U over the years, I think we should start playing these boys in the league cup next year, give them the chance. The future looks very bright and for all of you moaning about Wise, for me he has done very well in his role and brought in very good players, anyone not rate Bassong??Lets see what this window brings and judge JK and the board at the end of the month rather than believing the papers.

We need to amke Ashley, Wise and co what we think of them at the next home match. Emmotions will be runnin high at that match anyway and if we don’t win there’ll be sh1t hitting every fan in newcastle!

Comment #70Agreed ashley is still ruining the club .. as well as his cronnies .. anybody who thinks otherwise needs to look up the definition of “fat greedy b”.
On a positive though I think if we can get behind the team for the next 2-4 games so we can push out of relegation .. then at least we should stave relegation and Fat ashley can line his pockets and get the f**k out in the summer .. which I’m sure he will do ..

Comment #72@RichK – Do you know why KK left?
he left because he told Wise and Llambias, that he wanted the following players after he was convinced to sell Milner.
Schweinsteiger, Kapo, Hyypia, Warnock.
But instead all he got was Xisco and Gonzalez!
YEAH RIGHT, WISE HAS DONE A CLASS JOB!!!
And for your information, Wise doesn’t scout the youngsters, Vetere and Fucillo do that and Wise brokers the deals!

I don’t believe anything he says.
Can anyone actually remember one thing kinnear has said that’s been true since he’s been at the club?
I can’t and the b news is that he doesn’t think we’ll go down!!! Now were in the brown stuff!

Comment #80Found the quotes and he did say “internationals”. Of course I don’t believe an effin geffin word of it at the minute but I guess we’ll see in 11 days time whether we’ve got hot prospects or just more hot air.
