Joe Kinnear is certainly happy to have Joey Barton back in Newcastle’s midfield, and believes the Liverpudlian can be a big player for Newcastle United, as they prepare for the relegation battle which lies ahead, for a third season on the trot.
Joey Barton – key player for Newcastle United
The former Manchester City captain played the full match against Carlisle United behind-closed-doors at the club’s training ground on Tuesday.
Joe Kinnear feels that Joey is the sort of player Newcastle will need in their run-in to the league this season:
“Having Joey back is a big bonus,”
“I thought it was important to give him a run out at Blackburn and then again in Tuesday’s game with Carlisle.”
“He has a great desire to win and is a box-to-box midfielder who will give his all.”
“He could be a very important player for us between now and the end of the season.”
We need quite a few of our players to find their very best form, if the club is to actually avoid the drop this season, which looms larger than at any time since we entered the Premier League in 1993.

Comment #3I know you can just imagine him typing away like a lunatic. This is probably the most regularly updated of all the Newcastle websites.

Comment #4I can’t believe that supposed £15 million pound bid for that Italian striker is doing the rounds now.

Comment #6£15 million could probably buy you Afellay for PSV. A goalscoring midfielder, which is something we are crying our for.

Comment #11What household item would everyone else on here start banging their head off if we payed £15 million for a 27 year old striker we don’t need.

Comment #12Back to the topic – Barton – I think we will be very glad of him, especially as Guthrie is on crutches and I have little faith in cashley getting any money out for new signings.

Comment #14Man City are a joke. If you look into how they handled the Kaka business you’ll see how much of a joke they are. They are as clueless as our lot, but the happen to have a bottomless pile of cash at their disposal. They have been niave in their approach to Kaka and have been soundly slapped down by AC Milan.
They are going to pay £14m for Craig Bellend. FFS he’s worth no where near that amount. City are spending live a charver that’s just won the lottery.

Comment #18Oh yeah Barton. I thought he was off? David Craig was very confident that Barton wouldn’t be seen in a NUFC shirt ever again. In an ideal world I would say bin Barton just because he’s a nasty litt s**t. However he does have talent and he is probably one of our best players at the moment, so we need to keep him in the team and playing to his full potential.

Comment #22If Bellamy, a striker who is past it, is worth 14 million then Given must be worth at least 20 million. Given must be one of the best keepers in the world and if City are offering 7 million they can also give us Joe Hart and Steven Ireland.

craig gordon is 9 mn
huertho gomes is 8 mn
buffon is valued at 36 mn.
given might not be buffon but i think he is close to buffon and currently better than that twat cech who came for 20 mn.
honestly given shld be between 20 to 35 mn.

Comment #24Craig Bellamy – 29 and a half years old, played only 4 or 5 good games for West Ham after being injured most of the time and is suddenly valued by Man City as a £14 million pound player. Has a horrible attitude (i think they call it little man syndrome) which causes him to act like a prick. Goal record is one every 3 games and will no doubt start twisting if he’s dropped to the bench.

Comment #27It’s ironic that given would be worth a lot more if we had a better defence. I sometimes think that he isn’t given (no pun intended) enough credit for keeping us out of the crapper. If we had someone like Hooper(remember him lads and lasses) in the sticks we would have suffered far more defeats and had far more goals conceded than we currently have.

Comment #29I have to assume that the water supply in Newcastle has been contaminated… Given worth 20mil+????
Try… 7 mil – if we’re lucky. 33, shorter than most, fails to clear his lines, marshall the defense, come for set pieces at the right time, awful distribution, team does statistically better without him.
I would take 7mil and run.

Comment #30i think we should try and milk as much money as possible from city.
i would sell for the figures that are being banded about 12-13mill!
nd then use that money to get a few new faces through the door.

Comment #31I know it’s off topic but a lot of you still seem to believe the debt of our great club was going to lead to bankruptcy. This is simply not the case a debt if 80 to 100 million is not excessive in the premier league much smaller clubs like Fulham have much larger debt (approx £150 000 000) this if for a club with a significantly lower income.
The much touted threat of the club going under is just more MA spin to justify his lack of spending.

Comment #33Joey Barton is exactly what we are lacking in the centre of the park…He can dominatea game ( Villa being a prime example) and drive us forward instead of back or square….
I have a sneaky feeling Joseph is rubbing his hands at the prospect of playing an integral part in keeping us up…Fact of the matter is he owes the club big time for the past 18 month…
Time to step up to the plate son and show how good you really are….over to you

Bellamy’s obviously one of these people that can explode at the drop of a hat.
I met him twice at Newcastle RVI when he was on one of Newcastle’s Community things and he seemed really canny!
Saying that I hope Coloccini breaks him in two when we play Man City. He’s still fast as F^(k.
I think it’s when he’s on the pitch that his attitude takes over.

Comment #37I can’t believe we are linked with a 15m move for a single striker who isn’t better than what we have. Quite bad media reporting I must say, the reporters don’t even do their homework. JK was contemplating a 10mil move for Mbia, so where did the 15mil come from?
