There was the trial game yesterday against Carlisle United which ended 1-1 behind closed doors, but it’s hard to find out who played in that game, with so much secrecy and silence at the club these days.
Peter Lovenkrands – expected to sign until end of season – big deal!
It’s now three weeks into the transfer window, and for a team so desperate to get new players in to strengthen the squad in both quantity and quality, it’s almost unbelievable that we’ve had no action, in or out , on transfers yet. There’s now 12 days to go in the January transfer window.
It seems like deja vu – all over again, with Joe Kinnear now acting suspiciously like Kevin Keegan last summer, obviously frustrated at the lack of results, but trying to keep a positive face on things to Newcastle supporters.
Geremi, Taylor and Barton played yesterday along with Peter Lovenkrands. Peter was just one of six trialists on display, but there was no sign of the potential loan signings Kinnear talked of last week – an Italian and an Argentinian international. So what’s happened to them we have absolutely no idea.
In fact we have absolutely no idea of what Newcastle are doing, or have been doing for the last 3 weeks – the only thing we see is that no progress has been accomplished yet.
The Newcastle Journal is reporting this morning that MTK Budapest’s 18-year-old midfielder Andras Gosztonyi, 19-year-olds Per Egil andEven Hovland of Norwegian club Sogndal, and 20-year-old Jukka Raitala from HJK Helsinki are thought to have played in the game yesterday, along with another unnamed Swedish Under-21 international midfielder.
Yesterday, it was impossible for fans to get near the trial match that was played under tight security, but we at least expect free agent Lovenkrands to sign until the end of the season, after apparently proving his fitness in the match, which Spanish striker Xisco is also said to have played in.
You cannot accuse the Newcastle club of moving with much purpose or decisiveness in the transfer window, because even for Peter Lovenkrands, who is a free agent, it’s been 10 days now and still no word as to whether they are going to sign him to the club, even though it will be just through the end of the season.
Wow, you would think these were huge decisions, which should be nothing compared with the decisions the club should be making in January.
And so the mysteries and silence at the club continue.
