What Exactly Is Going On At Newcastle?

There was the trial game yesterday against Carlisle United which ended 1-1 behind closed doors, but it’s hard to find out who played in that game, with so much secrecy and silence at the club these days.

peter-lovenkrands-4

Peter Lovenkrands – expected to sign until end of season – big deal!

It’s now three weeks into the transfer window, and for a team so desperate to get new players in to strengthen the squad in both quantity and quality, it’s almost unbelievable that we’ve had no action, in or out , on transfers yet. There’s now 12 days to go in the January transfer window.

It seems like deja vu – all over again, with Joe Kinnear now acting suspiciously like Kevin Keegan last summer, obviously frustrated at the lack of results, but trying to keep a positive face on things to Newcastle supporters.

Geremi, Taylor and Barton played yesterday along with Peter Lovenkrands. Peter was just one of six trialists on display, but there was no sign of the potential loan signings Kinnear talked of last week – an Italian and an Argentinian international. So what’s happened to them we have absolutely no idea.

In fact we have absolutely no idea of what Newcastle are doing, or have been doing for the last 3 weeks – the only thing we see is that no progress has been accomplished yet.

The Newcastle Journal is reporting this morning that MTK Budapest’s 18-year-old midfielder Andras Gosztonyi, 19-year-olds Per Egil andEven Hovland of Norwegian club Sogndal, and 20-year-old Jukka Raitala from HJK Helsinki are thought to have played in the game yesterday, along with another unnamed Swedish Under-21 international midfielder.

Yesterday, it was impossible for fans to get near the trial match that was played under tight security, but we at least expect free agent Lovenkrands to sign until the end of the season, after apparently proving his fitness in the match, which Spanish striker Xisco is also said to have played in.

You cannot accuse the Newcastle club of moving with much purpose or decisiveness in the transfer window, because even for Peter Lovenkrands, who is a free agent, it’s been 10 days now and still no word as to whether they are going to sign him to the club, even though it will be just through the end of the season.

Wow, you would think these were huge decisions, which should be nothing compared with the decisions the club should be making in January.

And so the mysteries and silence at the club continue.

Pity Jukka Raitala going to Ajax as Newcastle wont pay like half a million for him..

watch in the next 24 he will go elsewhere cause of this set up and the way things are done these days..

I have a beautiful wife, son another on the way and I’m happy.

I don’t need NUFC making me miserable.

Edd I have a little box in my Brain marked NUFC and after all the years of hurt and disappointment I can put the lid on it some of the time.

I am really down about the whole thing it is like being repeatedly punched in the head..every day is bad news and it is constant.

I was prepared to bury the hatchet with Mike “moving forwards in 09″I just feel a complete mug that I even believed him.

    Tragic.

I know Brettoon. Two players are moving for around £15m each, Palacios to Spurs and de Jong to Man City. Two players who’d be brilliant acquisitions for us, who are exactly what we need in the the team and who should have at least 10 years to go in their respective careers with good experience already amassed.

A few years ago we’d have been vying for those players but now we’ll have to make do with loan signings (provided they don’t disappear off the face of the Earth first) and freebies.

Sick to death with the club. From top to bottom. Players fighting with each other again. No decent movement in the transfer window except these kids. A manager that cant bite his tongue. Poor performances from the first team. God help us. Panda cola league here we come

David Craig – You have no ceredibility left after claiming that Shay Given was to sign for City within 24hrs!

That was about 2 days ago!

Come on Kinnear have some back bone like KK and just do one!

Ashley might realise that what a fckin mess he’s making of things!

Back in the day with FFS we would have at least bought players…
I used to love the transfer window because we would always sign someone… albeit maybe Luque or Boumsong but it was still exciting.

Now it’s just dismal watching teams have so much more ambition than us.

Ashley you are a right ?%$£… that would rhymes with bunt by the way

And although we may appear to be a shambles; at least Charlie got a good hiding!! That boy deserved a clip from more than one Geordie for treating this club with utter contempt & disrespect. Who does the little idiot think he is?

    Come on the Toon!!

Back on subject: this is looking very, very ominous, and I’m starting to think that we really will have a repeat of the summer, in which case I think Kinnear will soon fall out with the bosses and walk like KK did.

At that point, the only people who will sign for us will be teenagers, and we’ll be lucky to get a manager from anything above the lower leagues.

BUT – t’ain’t over till the fat git sings, and you never know. Recent news won’t have helped, though – can you imagine being Mbia and reading about all of this while deciding on your next employer?

Ashley may have done a lot for the club in terms of financial stability, but he’s rapidly overtaking that in terms of inflicting damage on the football side. Very, very depressing.

I agree with David Craig, I have a feeling Lovenkrads didn’t impress and thats why his signing hasn’t been confirmed. I mean Lamine Diatta was signed within hours of the match he played last season.

David Craig also mentioned that the loan signings had been scrapped, and apparently they didn’t play last night.

I don’t think the Shay deal would be done as quick as 24 hours, he’s a top player and his agents will be having a field day negotiating with Citeh! I expect he’ll leave though!

so spurs sign palacios and have Appiah training there with a view to a free transfer and we get the rangers reject. I feel very underwhelmed by this signing. Appiah would have been an ideal player for our midfield if he is still the player he was after his injuries. I cant believe wise and joe didnt even bother to take a look at him. If we dont improve our painfully thin squad i think we will be going down.

Maybe Ashley is helping Spurs out buying players rather than his own club – Oh wait a minute Spurs is his own club!!!

Edd Case said it perfectly for me in comment 6 – That is what supporting NUFC has done to some of the fans of late. Literally nothing to look forward to anymore. Can anyone tell me if they really (Like when I say really I mean going back to the Robson days where only a few years ago we were top of the league at this point) look forward to the match. I know I don’t speak for everyone but also know I do speak for some when I say it just doesn’t have that edge anymore and whilst I am still obviously gutted when we lose it doesn’t hurt like it used to as it’s almost half expected. It’s a shame really.

I know mate but I’m just trying my absolute best to try and hang onto every bit of hope that something is happening beind the scenes. I said yesterday on another post that I’d heard several times (true or not) that the board are planning a PR campaign begining on the 2nd Feb 09. I just cannot even begin to believe that this PR campaign can follow a fruitless transfer window. That would be the ‘final insult’

Given deserves his move and hopefully the money can help take us forward, we have great keepers in harps and youngsters krul and forster and this will be a good opportunity for them! Need to step up the chase for m’bia as he is an excellent player. the story about danny shittu in the sun today is laughable, the link to sunderland i can half believe more there type of player……………utter shite
