Breaking news this morning that Newcastle are being linked with Bolton’s Nigerian center-back Danny Shittu, who wants to leave the Lancashire club.
Danny Shittu – wants to leave Bolton Wanderers
The former Watford defender has been told he can look for a new club, probably on loan at this stage.
Shittu, 28, who stands 6’3″ tall, spent the summer talking to a number of clubs eager to sign him from Watford, before he settled on a £?2M move to the Reebok Stadium.
Shittu started his career at Charlton Athletic in 1999, and then went to Blackpool (loan – 17 appearances, 2 goals), Queens Park Rangers (169 appearances, 17 goals), Watford (69 appearances, 8 goals) and since the summer Bolton Wanderers, who he’s played for just 5 times.
Danny has played 14 times for the full Nigerian National side.
Shittu has said he wants to leave Bolton for regular football somewhere else:
“I am very disappointed because all I want to do is play.”
“I am 28 years of age and I feel I am too old and experienced to be sitting on the bench and not be part of it.”
“I want to be playing week-in, week-out. I feel when I have played for Bolton I have done OK.”
Sunderland are also interested, and probably more so than Newcastle.
And the obvious question for Newcastle fans is a player who cannot get his game at Bolton of suitable quality for Newcastle?
We don’t think so.
There is also breaking news this morning that Newcastle have accepted a £14M bid from Man City for Shay Given.
But the move is supposedly being held up because Michael Johnson, who’s part of the deal, does not want to move to Newcastle.
The deal is said to be for £8M plus Johnson.
