11 Days Left In Transfer Window And Still Nothing

With a team so desperately short of players to survive in the Premier League this season, you would have expected that Newcastle would at least have done something in the first 22 days of the January transfer window – wrong again.

dennis-wise-22.jpg

Dennis Wise – Recruitment Director – where are the players?

We will presumably sign Peter Lovenkrands, a free agent who used to play at Rangers, before the end of the week, but that’s all we know about at the moment.

He will become our 4th winger, finally replacing James Milner, who was not replaced when he left in August, although we were told there were several players coming in during the last two days of the summer window – wrong again.

And with Danny Guthrie being injured, any deal to take Geremi to Besitkas seems now to be over, and we think it’s best in any case to keep Geremi at the club.

Although he hasn’t played well for us of late, he is very experienced, and why doesn’t Joe Kinnear at least give him a run-out at right back? We think Geremi can still do a job for the club before the end of the season.

The two loan signings we were supposed to be getting, have magically disappeared from view, and exactly what the fans are supposed to think about them is puzzling. We were told they were coming in and each would cost around £500K, and then nothing.

We’d suggest to the Newcastle club, that they tell the fans at least what’s going on, either now, or on February 2nd, as to what happened to them, unless of course we still bring them into the club.

We understand both are central midfielders, so since we are shot of them for next Wednesday’s game at Man City, why not bring at least one in for that game?

The major positions we we needed to fill were at left back and at central midfield, and it looks like we have a number of players on trial who could still come into our defense.

And we think it’s much better to have a look at them first, as we did with Sebastien Bassong, to ensure they are better, or will be better, than what we already have.

But we don’t see much chance of getting any transfer signings through the door with the £10M Joe has to spend.

It may be that Joe was put off by Stephanie Mbia, when he had a poor game last Sunday, but we should remind both Dennis Wise, Joe Kinnear, Derek Llambias and Mike Ashley, that we still need to strengthen the side before the window closes.

And all this talk about how difficult it is to bring in players and the like – we’ve heard it all before, and other clubs like Man City ad Tottenham seem to be strengthening – do get on with it please – no excuses – and this time get the job done.

If not enough  players are brought into the club before a week on Monday, Newcastle fans will not accept how difficult it was, and all that nonsense, but it will be even more proof that the Newcastle Board is just completely incompetent, as they proved last summer.

It’s results or reasons, and we don’t want to hear the reasons.

Comments welcome.

But didn’t Joe say that he and Wise had agreed thier targets and it was left to hin to get them?

Or was that just wishful thinking on Joe’s part.

I reckon that Shay’ll go at or near te close of the window and incomers will be precisely zilch, nil, nein, none, diddley squat!

Shades of the Milner departure and the subsequent influx?

    Marvellous innit!!

Complete joke. We are only going to sell Given if he wants to go and if we can drip the money out man city. The moneys going to go to the coffers, cant see any players coming and prob have to promote the youngans, which isnt such a bad thing. Notice how JFK has started talking about the squad in a positive light now a drastic change from just last week where we are now a good squad and getting injuries back.

It sounds to me like he is paving the way for no signings by saying we have a good squad when the injuries come back. Wise and Ash arent going to fork out money if they think we are ok when all squad is available.

No loans, no communication, no faith in the board or manager.

    Bad times

Its not wises falt really, he is just doing his job of what mike ashley tels him to do. But the communication from the club is really bad so it will be interesting to see what ashley says on the 2nd feb, whether we can believe any of it is another matter. Its like listening to david craig FULL OF SHIT!

At this point, Lovenkrands, and Raitala look to be our best bet.

Geremi hasnt been that bad. He is the only one who can pass and supply Owen with good thorugh balls.
I dont think people notice all the runs Owen makes, he if was at a better team, with better passers and midfielders with better vision he would be top scorer

Wise will do the deal for Given at 4:59pm Feb 2nd!

That will give us precisley 1 minute to re-invest that money.

Wise will say, sorry we tried but couldn’t bring anyone in!

We will be relegated no doubt about it!

If Chas & Dave were serious about signing players in this window, they would have been lined up and brought in the first few days of the window opening. All this spin about loan signings, £10m kitty etc.. is all bollocks.

Ashley is funding Sports Direct through NUFC.

Given will go. Zog MAY go if Lov is signed.

Barton is back now man, we dont need any midfielders….. (wise convo with JFK!!)

Terrible. Get the bed sheets ready! haha

How many times have we been through this same situation with these clowns, think we should all just face facts no significant signings will be made. Ashley and his cronies are intent in running is into the ground, we are being destroyed from within and it i killing me.

    Just day dreaming out loud

    Wanted:

    Owners :

Arabs a la man city (should already be here and not affected by credit crunch)

Ambani ( whole new Asian market)

US investors ( very strong dollar)

S.Africans (2010 world cup connections and would bring in Simon Clifford and modern training methods)

Manager: Martinez and Houllier / Ranieri
    Deschamps ” ”
    Van Gall
    Advocaat

Players and formation . A Brazilian 3-4-3 with Colo playing right side of a back 3 as he does for the Argies.
    Krul

    Colo Bassong Kadar

    Spidey Barton Guthrie Enrique

    Lua Martins Ranger

I do think though that he will invest in the summer IF we stay up because has there ever been an owner who wants to runin the club? No

Hes trying to stabilise the club but he could be doing it in a very dangerous manner.

I wouldnt give kinnear money to spend because hes not good, I just hope to god they are trying to tap up a good foreign manager for the end of this season, its what we have need for a while now

I agree with Rem, regarding Geremi. He’s providing assists for Owen, and if you remember the end of last season, Geremi was a huge player for us. He played really well in that period.

I just think he needs a couple of matches to become match-fit, and he’ll be as good as any of our options in the midfield. Barton and Geremi for the City game, and they’ll do a great job.. i’m sure of it!

Ed I am just being lazy here but maybe you could track down the comments produced on what days by JFK to see what an utter load of garbage he talks/is being fed by the dicks above him. The ones standing out are, “We’ll know more in the next 48 hours” – Well I am pleased you got to know more Joe but thanks for not telling us and I am sure this was around Wednesday last week! I just think it’d be interesting to see what he has said about incoming transfers given the window is over 3 weeks old.

ED – every article you post is anti club, how about a realistic article – such as the now released club accounts?

I suggest you have no interest in debating the real facts. Ashley is totally vindicated by them – yet you still choose cheap paper headlines over facts, reality and market conditions as reasons for actions and consequence.

I have said to you before, sometimes I dont believe you want balance and undermine the club more than anyone.

Stardust – I agree about debating the facts of the recently released accounts.

But lets look at a more pertanant fact – If Ashley doesn’t speculate this month there won’t be much accumulating being done!

We’ll end up in the Championship and the club would lose a hell of a lot more money that it did last year.

Tv money will be down, ticket sales will be down dramatically and so to would merchandise income.

Where would that leave the club?

This Janko guy seems to know where the net is in Austria if he could reproduce that form here he would be loved on tyneside. £12m can’t see us spending that overall let alone one player, if you’re going for a striker i still think Darren Bent would be a bargain along with Gudjohnsen £8m for the pair.

Terrible news about Kadar, but he’ll bouce back.

Why don’t we arrange a loan deal for Michael Johnson? He’s known to be fond of a drink, but he’s worth a shot anyway. I bet a tipsy Johnson would still outplay Nicky Butt…

I am no accountant and I take on board what you are saying and ensuring Newcastle’s debt is a laudible thing.

However, I believe the way Ashley is going about it is too severe and should be done a little more gradually over the next few seasons. Lets face it, the majority of premiership clubs are carrying debts larger than ours with less income too.

Two things need addressing in my view:

    1. Sufficient spending to keep the club in the premiership should be a priority.

    2. Communication from the club to the fans / press / media is essential and long overdue.
