There is news in a number of papers today, plus Sky Sports that 17 year old Swedish starlet Samuel Adjei is hoping to seal a move to Newcastle United.
The 17-year-old currently plays for Swedish side Jonkoping Sodra, who play in the second highest Swedish league, Superettan. and he is getting the attention of a number of bigger clubs including Newcastle United and Porto.
However, as seems to happen regularly these days is that Newcastle have been the first to make an offer for the winger, and the player seems delighted at Newcastle United’s interest in him.
The youngster was at Newcastle’s training grounds in November and may have been one of the Swedish contingent that has been at our training grounds in the last couple of weeks too.
It would appear that he has impressed the Newcastle management enough for the club to make a bid for him and now he is imploring his club to do the deal with Newcastle.
Samuel told his local newspaper Jnytt:
“Chances like these don’t just grow on trees, so when it appears you wanna grab it,”
“The interest is big and they want me.”
” I hope that Newcastle and Jonkoping Sodra can make an agreement.”
However, his club seem not to be convinced he will be leaving as Director Daniel Segerfeldt said:
“Both we and Newcastle have seen there is an interest around Samuel,”
“Our approach is that he is going to play for us.”
This could be difficult for the Swedish club, especially when the youngster wants to come to Newcastle.
We’ll have to wait and see, but Newcastle seem to have done their homework on young players for the January window – that’s for sure.
We need four new players in at the senior level and things could start looking a lot better.
Comments welcome.

Comment #2I just hope that with all these young players coming in that they’ll be developed properly and won’t all end up being crocked.

Comment #6Whilst Money isn’t doing anything wrong with the youngsters, I can’t help feeling that I would be glad if we got Glenn Roeder back to work with the accademy again! Although I do not rate him as a manager, I still say he is the best coach for developing youngsters in the country.

Comment #7could be a good signing, but lyk all the other top young players were signing will probly be pointless cos we never ever give any of them a chance in the 1st team!! how come we’re quick off the mark bidding for youngsters but not so much with senior players??

Comment #13G- dont talk nonsense roeder the best for developing players? im sure arsenals academy would have something to say about that!! and dont you remember tha plyers that glenn roeder brought through, they were garbage, matty patison, alan obrien etc, our academy is doin 10 times better now under money than it ever did under roeder and we finally look like having a lot of top quality players coming through in lua lua, kadar, krul ranger etc

Comment #18never mind the goon model, villa’s way of picking up 1 or 2 sensible quality player each window is the way to go… but then they do have a quality manager. how could you respect jfk when he can’t even respect himself….

Comment #19real entertainers- exactly my point mate, hes doin a better job than roeder ever did IMO and as far as roeder being the best in the country at bringing youngster through thats laughable, i mean he brought us matty pattison and alan obrien, arsenal brought fabregas, clichy, denilson, diaby etc

Comment #20Nick 69 – I wouldn’t consider my opionion nonsense. The man could only work with the resources at his disposal, whilst you may have a point with the Gooners academy situation, I still believe the youngsters developed under Glenn did ok for us when we asked. Young Andy Caroll was one of Roeders boys and he seems to be doing ok so far, although it is early days yet. David Edgar was another one of Roeders’ boys too if memory serves.

Comment #23Copy/Paste from previous blogg:
About the swedish boy Samuel Adjei. Had not heard of him before but googled some info on the boy. Contracted for Jönköping Södra in the swedish 2:nd division = championship division in England. Has not played for the first team yet as he was promoted from the youthteam for the comming season witch starts in April. Last season he was loaned to a division 6 team. Couldnt find any info or stats on him but reading from some forums he seems to be a glowing talant and a U16 international.
Newcastle has put in a bid but it was rejected be Jönköping Södra so I hope the club comes back with an approved bid. Porto and even Arsenal seems intrested according to sources on a forum

Comment #25G- im not saying glenn did a bad job, but he didnt do an excellent job either, lets face it, andy caroll and david edgar will be fringe players here until we get a decent owner who will buy us the quality we need, then they well be realsed and go on to play championship football at best

Comment #27I personally don’t rate Villa as high as everyone else. The squad MON has assembled is far from great. Signings like Sidwell, Milner, Shorey and Cueller are hardly going to boost them into the Champs League. You remove the pace from Villa i.e. Young, and they are a largely predictable and ordinary side.

Comment #28Get him in but like others on the blog I think nufc are bad at developing and bringing young players through. I also wish managers would stop saying that players at 20 and 21 are too young for first team foootball hell I mean there are 17 year olds fighting for queen and country.

Comment #38We need 1st team players in urgently but will not get them because Ashley will not spend any money on players. This joke of an owner ( don’t bleat on about ” he’s paid off the debt”) is just a rich B*****d who wanted a toy to play with and it just happened to be us. This wonderful owner and brilliant business man who wasn’t even clever enough to check the books properly before buying the club and finds he is in debt. I can only pray someone comes in in the summer and buys the club from this effin idiot .

Comment #40All good stuff in the long term.
However this is all preventative not curative and boy do we need a cure. Ala hitman I concur.
Communication is essential in any business and this being a religion dictates far more than that!
There is no doubt we are fickle! After all anyone would be that wore their heart on their sleeve.
That is why we will always be at the mercy of the preditorial pres see gutter splutter!
Alas it is that very essence of character that exposes us to such suffering.
This is Newcastle United and we have pride. Howay divn’t kill the spirit!
