It’s the 23rd day of the transfer window and Newcastle have made their first signing official by capturing Peter Lovernkrands on a free transfer.
Peter Lovenkrands – delighted to be at Newcastle United
The 28-year-old Danish international Peter Lovenkrands has impressed during a two-week trial on Tyneside and today he signed a deal through the end of the season, but obviously is motivated to do well, so he can get an extended stay on Tyneside.
Peter also has a Scottish wife, so it’s a good location for him and his family.
The forward, who still had great speed, and whom Bobby Robson thought he had signed back in 2000, will wear the number 24 for Newcastle, and could make his debut in our important game at Manchester City next Wednesday.
Lovenkrands spoke to nufcTV from the St.James’ Park boardroom, and says that he cannot wait to get down to action.
“I’m delighted to sign a deal until the end of the season,”
“I now just can’t wait for my debut at Man City next week.”
This could be a very good signing for us, because the news from the training ground, is that he’s a good player and can offer Newcastle something up front, and of course financially, it’s another great deal for the club.
But hopefully this will be just be the start, and Joe Kinnear hads again said he wants to sign a defender in the next couple of days, so we have to believe that’s the Finland U21 starlet Jukka Raitala, who many clubs are after, and who is currently on trial at Newcastle this week.
We also think Jukka would be an excellent signing, and he’s a youngster who’s just 20 years old, and in a position we must strengthen in January – left back – so hey, if we can secure Jukka in the next two days we could well be on our way.
Let’s hope we are, because the clock is ticking and there’s now only 10 days left of the transfer window, and we also need to strengthen the defense more, and bring in a top class central midfielder – at least.
