News today that Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Turkish international defender Gökhan Zan on loan until the end of the season.
Gokhan Zan – Turkish International center-half – in black and white stripes
The 27 year old Besiktas center-back, who stands 6’4″ tall, has been offered to Premiership clubs by his Besitkas club, and the Greek club is ready to let the player go in January.
Besitkas wanted to sell the player in January, but they would also be willing to agree to a loan spell first, prior to a deal being done in the summer.
That has attracted Newcastle United, although Joe Kinnear is still looking at other targets who he feels could be better players for the club.
Joe had said he hoped to sign a new defender soon, so we’ll have to wait and see who that is.
Glasgow Celtic are also keen to offload their experienced center-half 33 year-old Bobo Baldé to Newcastle, and the 6’3″ French-born Guinean professional, who has played over 160 times for Celtic, is out of contract with Celtic at the end of the season.
The Scottish club have even said they may be willing to let him leave on a free transfer now, so that they can get him off the wage bill at the Scottish club. Manager Walter Smith must still reduce the wage bill at Rangers within the next 9 days.
Joe Kinnear must be confident of his other targets if he is to turn his back on Gökhan Zan, but we better make some signings soon, and not leave things to the last day or two, because then disasters can then happen – as we seem to keep proving.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41we should try a swap deal Owen for Shorey that way we have a premiership LB and frees us of Owens massive wages . We could get 3 good premiership class players in for the same wages Owen is on .

Comment #42Thats right Alex, then we will not score any goals and go down.
Will Shorey score the goals – no
Viduka, Smith, Carrol and Shola – All prolific at being injured?
Midfield – No one scores
CB and LB – no one there either
Selling owen now is gonna guarantee relegation

Comment #45Toony Soprano the way Owen is playing what makes you think he is going to score enough to save us ? like i said , freeing up Owens wages we could get another 3 good players in 1 of which could be a striker that wants to be here and score . As for shorey he could be the answer to our left back problem i.e we only have 1 at the moment and a swap deal would cost us nothing leaving any money we do have for other positions .

Comment #48Bobo Balde makes Taylor look like Maldini.
Gokhan Zan is very good, nicknamed the ‘Turkish Ferdinand’ I think.
If we pursued Balde instead of Zan I’d be furious.
