There is news today in that bastion of truthful journalism, the News Of The World, that Newcastle are after a Costa Rican footballer, who is currently playing in the Belgium League.
Brian Ruiz – 23 year-old 6’1″ striker
The news is that Newcastle United have sent scouts to check on Jupiler League club AA Gent star striker, Bryan Ruiz
Brian played for Deportiva Alajuelense (LDA), a Costa Rican football club playing in the Primera División de Costa Rica, from 2003 until 2006, when he was picked up by Gent.
He played 67 times with 25 goals for Deportiva Alajuelense, and has appeared 60 times with 20 goals for AA Gent.
He has also played 14 times for his country, Costa Rica, and has 6 international goals.
Brian was born in August of 1985 in San José, and scored his first hat trick playing for Gent on December 8th 2007 against Lokeren.
No fee has been mentioned for the player.
We have no idea if there is any truth in this report – but probably not.
Comments welcome.

Comment #8Why are we just sending scouts to look at this kid now when there is only one week of the window left. All of the scouting should have been ongoing from August through to December so that when the window opened we knew exactly who we wanted.
I note this morning that we are looking at the Celtic captain. Where has this suddenly come from – we seem to be lurching from one target to the next without any sensible plan. Two weeks ago we were linked with half the rangers team which dwindled away to nowt.
And the Lovenkrands deal took nearly three weeks to tie up but he was a free agent anyway and could have been on trial weeks ago.
If it takes three weeks to ‘swoop’ for a free agent how realistic will it be to conclude deals with seven or eight days to go. Gosmacked!!!

Comment #9Stop putting these stupid sunday-news up, Ed.
We’ll never sign a costa rican from the mediocre austrian league. I read that Spurs wants Viduka today, that news is probably as realistic as this one. Happy Harry would never want our overweight, super-prone Aussie.

Comment #11We are constantly linked with strikers cuz, the press have no clue who we want, so write any old drivel.
And they do no research at all, cuz the Toon is too far away to care about, but still a big club, so they have to write something.
We’d be better off not listening, reading or caring about a single thing they spout.
They’re pathetic.
Know nowt divvy gets.
Ignore.

Comment #16Absolute Shite, the whole newcastle situation.
Ashley is doing a good job at f*******g up this once great club. The fact remains wether he actually does anything at the club or just leaves it to his casino manager mate who has no pedigree in football.
Wise is signing all these youngsters which begs another question of wether he’ll still at the club to see them develop.

Comment #18Well i think we need Strikers for Deffinate! What we got is Owen – Will be gone. Shola – Crap. Viduka -Will be gone. Xisco – Tryin to get rid of. Martins – Injury prone and not exactly a 20 goal a season man is he? Yes we need defenders and midfielders but also Strikers!
To be honest what we need is Foo**n HELP!

Comment #20In the run up to the transfer window, did the squinty eyed pasty maggot and JFK write their wish list on a fag packet which they lost on a knees up at a Chas and Dave show? One week to go and nothing, big case of de ja vu im afraid, if nothing positive happens this week there could be a riot next Sunday. Come on, get your fingers out and get some players in.

Comment #23News of the World – just like the Daily Star.
Actually, it must be true because JFK was seen in a Costa Coffee talking to some bloke behind the counter – obviously a footballer in disguise!
Where do they get their ideas from? They should be writing a novel – oh yes, I forgot, they do write novels – only they call them newspapers.

Comment #29We we need is players who wants to play for us. we need a commanding CB,LB and a Defensive midfielder to protect our back 4 . Steven Appiah can do a job on the short term as we need bodies. He can create for our strikers.

Comment #30Well bad luck for the scouts of NUFC then. Gent had to play Anderlecht last Friday but the match was suspended because of the rain. The pitch was unplayable.
Last year he played a good season, but this season he has not done anything special, so it would not be a step forward to improve the squad on the contrary.
Isn’t it frustrating to be a NUFC fan these days; yesterday we were linked with SAviola and today we are linked with Ruiz. How things can change in 24 hours 😉 lol.

Comment #31Seeing as we want some cheap buys, young buys, I was wondering if any of you knew what Ross Wallace (left back) in the championship was like? Think he plays for Preston. Also I see Ben Watson is going to Wigan for £2million, another young English cheap buy, anybody comment on these players?

Comment #33Well, as a costarican i won’t sound as objective as I should, but still, Ruiz is a very good player, few searches on youtube will stand by my words, and actually he isn’t a full striker, he plays in the middle, very creative and fantastic with the ball in his feet. Has been looking for a better league than the belgium, but the Gent asked Napoli over £10 million, and they were offering £8 million. Anyway, im sure it would be nice to see him play in a better league, for him, and for your team.

Comment #35This is a very bad team for ruiz newcatle is a bad team that is always losing and getting new players to find a solution but they suck like always.I wish ruiz would come to the arsenal he is the best player in belgium and the best player in the concaf.
ronaldiños ears helps him make some amazing moves maybe ruiz could use his ears like him..
