Colin Calderwood has already started to coach at Newcastle, after helping Joe Kinnear and Chris Hughton prepare the lads for tomorrow night’s tough game at Manchester City.
Colin Calderwood – got right down to work yesterday
Colin was fired from his position as manager of Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, and he seems very pleased to get right back into the action again, and has signed up to coach at Newcastle United through the summer.
Colin said today:
“It was the size of the club and the level that they are playing at which attracted me to the role,”
“This is a division which I have not been involved in for nearly five seasons now.”
“Also the chance to get back out on the training pitch and coaching again is something which is in my blood and I jumped at the opportunity to do so.”
“I’ve just been watching the boys and assessing things so far but I can’t wait to get joined in, do a couple of sessions and get to know the boys a bit better and shout and holler a little bit.”
“I’m here to give Joe and Chris a hand in any way they want to use me so I’m looking forward to it.”
“It’s a new experience and I really want to get my feet and hands dirty.”
Calderwood was a player at Tottenham Hotspur when Chris Hughton was the first-team coach at White Hart Lane, and it looks like Chris had quite a bit to do with bringing Colin to help coach the first team squad on Tyneside.
“I’ve had a relationship with Chris for a number of years and I was a player at Spurs and then on the coaching staff while he was there,”
“He played a big part in bringing me here so I’m delighted to work with him again.”
Colin has been brought in to work with Newcastle’s defense, a tough job for any coach.
But we just have to get the defense starting to register some clean sheets again, after we have conceded 12 goals in our last 4 league games, and 3 goals to Blackburn our last time out.
Tomorrow night’s game at Eastlands will hardly be an easy one, but we just have to start picking up points if we are going to survive in the top league this season.
Tomorrow night is as good a time as any to start doing just that.
