There’s some surprises announced in the Newcastle team that will line up at Eastlands tonight.
Newcastle United players Shay Given and Charles N’Zogbia miss out on tonight’s league clash at Manchester City because of injury.
Don’t believe that for one minute since it looks like both are on their way out of Newcastle before next Tuesday, and we just hope we have replacements lined up for N’Zogbia, who we’ll be glad to see the back of , quite honestly.
Not so with Shay, who is leaving because he’s lost confidence in the ownership and direction at Newcastle United.
Steve Harper will play his first game in goal this season, with Hexham-born Fraser Forster the substitute goalkeeper.
Fabricio Coloccini will move into central midfield allowing Steven Taylor to return to center-back where he is partnered by Sebastien Bassong. David Edgar keeps his place at right-back.
Joey Barton will also make his first start for Newcastle against his former club, following his knee injury, with Geremi and Damien Duff completing a four-man midfield.
Gutierrez again starts on the bench tonight. 🙁
Andy Carroll and captain Michael Owen start in attack as we expected.
No starting position for new signing Peter Lovenkrands, although we expect to see him at some point during the game.
16 year-old Australian youngster Brad Inman, is named on the bench, for the first time.
