Kinnear – Given Decision Now Out Of My Hands

Joe Kinnear has admitted today that he is resigned to the heartbreak of losing Shay Given.

shay-given-action_468x325

Shay Given – out of Joe’s hands now

And of course as fate would have it we play the club where Shay may well end up tonight – Manchester City.

But we just hope that if Newcastle let Given go they do it for the price he is worth – and that has to be at least £10M. If Man City will not pay that then keep Shay until the summer, when somebody will pay that amount.

But Kinnear has said that he is still to make a decision on which goalkeeper will start tonight, which sounds strange to us becasue why would he now play Given?

That decision will be made just before the game, and of course the players will be informed about team selection first.

Kinnear told the Chronicle today:

“I’ve bent over backwards to keep Shay, and I have told the powers that be that he has got to stay.”

“But I understand it from Shay’s point of view.” “He wants to leave, but I have tried my hardest to make him stay.”

“He’s done 11 years here at Newcastle and I think he wants a new challenge.”

“I left Shay with Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and Michael Kennedy, and the talks went on for a few hours.”

“It’s out of my hands and I am still waiting for the final outcome, but I think he wants a new challenge and that he wants to speak to Manchester City.”

“I would be heartbroken to see him go because he is one of the best keepers in the world. But Man City keep banging on the door to talk to him.”

That’s the first we have heard for a while that Given still wants to leave the club, so if that’s the case we should work out the best deal we can for the Irishman.

It will very sad to see Shay leave, but we shouldn’t keep players at the club, who don’t want to stay, and that’s true even in Shay’s case.

But if he does leave he’ll still be one of the greatest players ever to play for Newcastle.

But life goes on, and the Newcastle United club is bigger than any player, and Newcastle will go on too, and hopefully to the success that Shay has craved for – for for 11 years but didn’t get.

But that hardly looks like happening any time soon either.  So sad.

Great keeper but we can get decent money for him and we have Stevie Harper who in my eyes is not far off Given’s standards and still one of the better goalkeepers in the league. My biggest worry is that we get the money in and don’t use it on other areas of the team! The Ebondo deal now looks in doubt, we could see the arrival of Donadel in the next few days and we still need an Att CM, LB and ideally another CB, maybe even a striker too.A point will be a god result tonight i’m not to optimistic though I have to say

Joe knows as much as the rest of us that with Harper as back up and Given wanting to leave it would be best to cash in. There will never be a better time to hold Man City to ransom over this one. We could get £15m+ for him.

reckon given has already signed and will be unveiled tomorrow morning/afternoon for city. obviously neither side would really want him to play tonight as i’m sure it would mess with his head 🙂 . 10mil minimum i hope, cos he’s worth that! harper will be fine till the end of the season at least, then we can readress the situation if needs be…

MA doesnt know what he is doing. He is clueless. He is joing the team NOWWW and what the fcking he did before this?????All the transfer plans should be done before the window and not now. Only 5 days to go and no signing so far. Relegation…I can smell it
On the other hand, losing Given is not big problem for me since we already have enough covers for that position and GK is the stronget position we have.
    But the question here is
are we going to spend the money??

With seconds on the clock, Newcastle build another attack with Jonas sprinting down the right flank, he beats 1, beats 2, and then dinks a lovely cross to the far post. Andy Carroll rises head and shoulders about the Man City defenders and directs a header back to the left hand corner. Joe Hart dives and stretches getting his fingertips to the ball and scoops the ball out, the ball falls to the feet of Craig Bellamy who takes a wild swing to clear it, but slices the ball and only succeeds to direct it in to his own net. One-nil to Newcastle, looks like all points are travelling to St James.

    I can dream cant I 🙂

Our glory years have already been and gone they were the years under KK and sir bobby when we played good attractive football, play top clubs in europe and ‘nearly’ won the league once.

That was the best it’s been and ever will be now i think.

Yes we’ve had chances in the recnt past to turn the corner and climb back up to the top of the premier league, but we’ve always had the wrong men running our beloved club and at the end of the day just weren’t good enough.

I feel now we’re to far bhind the top clubs in the country to ever really get back to were we want to be, as year on year we get further away from them, not any closer.

So remember the good times lads, i doubt they’l ever come again.

on a lighter note: come on the toon 3 points at city today then huh?

If we waste this money the way we wasted the Milner money then this is bad, if we use it wisely then it could be good.

If Keane was for sale and he would come here then Given and Owen out, Keane in would be brilliant, Martins and Keane would be brilliant at the front settle the team down, then get those other players in and see where we go from here.

If Keane wouldnt come here if an excellent Owen replacement is available then we should try and secure him with this money.

The Owen rubbish has been a cloud over this club ever since his injury, a highly paid player not producing results, being a crap captain with no loyalty to the club at all and messing the club about with contracts is not accepetable, replace him and if Martins and the new striker play well everyone will be happy, otherwise we go to next summer with more disgruntled players.

What is the obsession of getting 1st post on the blog. Get a life. On the Given front I am gutted. The bloke must be worth more in points earned for the team than cash in the bank – Oh wait a minute this is Ashley we are talking about. I think Given represents the thoughts of a lot of NUFC fans now in that he knows the club have gone stale and backwards at a rapid rate and can see the top brass for what they are.

there really is some paranoid folk on here like – this has nothing to do with ashley and everything to to with shay. he has been feeling like this for a while and i agree with the comment that this is the only time we can command that kind of figure for him. he has been a great servant but that money can be best used elsewhere. i am glad we have held them to ransom a bit and got extra funds out of them. this money must be used for a quality goalscoring mid

neill- agree I too am gutted we’ll be without the great shay given, while we do have cover, i always thought that was one layer loyal and solid for the toon when most others were either overpaid pre madonnas, never lived up to expectations or injured half the time.

Shay has saved us so many points over the years i truly think at times we may of been relegated without him.

But all this said, the guy want to leave us now for greener pastures and i can’t blame him for that, he deserves better than our lot.

I’ve always felt a bit sorry for the lad when we’ve loss those countless games due to boumsong tripping over his own feet, or some other miserable clown in defense infront of shay, the lad deserves european football and a run at silverware someplace, he probably deserves beter than city in all honesty so i wish the guy well, and will applaud and show my respect to him when ever i get a chance.

Given is good, but world class? Not really. He is a good shot stopper and has saved our bacon a few times, but he isn’t world class.
To put it into perspective I’d rather have Wolves current keeper than Given.

Saying that, he is a legend and will always be associated with NUFC, like rudolf was for ManU. Even when he was playing for other clubs he was still seen as the ManU keeper.

As much as i like Given, we have to look at the bigger perspective now… We dont have much money and we have a thin squad which needs quality in a cpl of positions… on the other hand, we are very strong in the GK department, so it really makes sense to sell Given for allot of money and use that money elsewhere.

They paid a crocked bad attitude Bellamy for 14mil, its only reasonable that the club raise the transfer fee more for Given since he has a good injury record on top of being professional.

@Micky, if Shay had had any sort of consistency in front of him, maybe he will shine in the areas he fails in at Newcastle.
He is the best shot stopper around and how can you learn to organise defensive lines when you’ve had such gems a Bramble and Boumsong (to list but a few) in it.
Only his distribution can be questioned, but then again, would you pass the ball to Enrisky or Titus Shambles with the chance of them attempting a back pass? F*** that! lol

We must start with Harper tonight. It is obvious we will be selling Shay sooner rather than later. That makes Steve our first choice keeper as from tonight. It would be bizarre to play Shay against Man City because all bar the bullshite he is virtually their player anyway. Og, Joe, get Krul back for the bench for the mackems. I will be in the ground if you feel like asking my advice. If not then I will be in the Blackett later!!!!
