Joe Kinnear as we all know doesn’t have much money to spend on new players at Newcastle right now, although he admits he would love to go out and make some sexy signings for the club.
Joe Kinnear – would love to make sexy signings
Kinnear goes against moneybags Manchester City tonight, and they have spent over £126M in the Premier League so far.
Kinnear told the Evening Chronicle today:
“I would love to go out and make loads of sexy signings.” “I’d love to build Newcastle United up that way.”
“But that isn’t where we are at right now.” “You see Tottenham going out and buying three or four players at a time and spending millions.”
“But I am trying to save the club and I am working with what I’ve got.”
“We’ve shown when we have a fully fit squad that we can beat the best teams.”
“And I will continue to do that with what I have.”
But the fact that Man City have spent so much also means there is considerable pressure on them to perform, as there is with Spurs, who have already spend a lot in the transfer market also.
But we don’t see either of these two clubs too much better than Newcastle right now.
In the Man City game at St. James’ Park we outplayed City and were leading 2-1 having played with 10 men for almost the whole game, after Habib Beye had been wrongfully sent off and penalized for a foul on Robinho, who took a dive in the penalty area.
City finally equalized in the 86th minute through Stephen Ireland to rescue their blushes in that game, and they haven’t really improved too much since then, as far as we can see.
Meanwhile, as we reported this morning Newcastle are said to be looking at 19 year-old Charlton youngster Josh Wright, who is a creative midfielder, with Aston Villa (who else?) also interested in his services.
Just to level set on the transfer window status – there are 5 days to go in the window and we have one player through the door, and a free agent at that.
We have yet to strengthen the defense and central midfield with any players, and those are the two areas of the squad the club admitted needed strengthening in January.
Get a move on lads, because there will be no excuses this time around.
Wishing and Hoping – as usual.
Comments welcome.

Comment #41you are being duped Ashley will come out of this window with cash in his pocket. forget the interminable hyperbole about who we are about to sign, loan deals are the only realistic targets.
You are all gullible and Ashley, Kinnear, Wise and Lambias know it.
Time to wake up and get real.

Comment #45For all those who go to the game. Remind Ashley that he needs to help the team by showing a bit of ambition (now he shows nothing at all) or that he can f***ck off otherwise.

Comment #46I think all that can be done is listen to the commentary on the official club site. I will do that I suppose. Better than nothing. At least I won’t see goblin Wise’s shifty mug!

Comment #47Great Donkey Taylor will be trying to play full-back tonight.
Expect alot of pointing and a willingness to leave huge gaps at the back for Robiniho to exploit.

Comment #49For ‘when we have a fully fit squad’… read … when Martins is playing. Beye and Guthrie… solid as they are, are not the difference between winning and losing games over a period of weeks. For all Martins misses chances, he stretches the field for us and we have a less compact and stodgy shape.
We never expected sexy signings JK, we just need sensible essential signings.. i.e. a couple of midfielders, a full back (either side’d dae).
Shame Given hadn’t made the move to City by now and had it in his contract he HAD to be playing tonight…. cue bullets I knaa.

“And I will continue to do that with what I have.” said Joe.
Sounds like he’s managing our expectations down and preparing us for outgoings and no first team incomers.
Just as I and other cynics anticipated before the window opened and due to either an intention to offload and not buy or, dare I say it, INCOMPETENCE?
Any thoughts chaps?

Comment #69I am not stressed totally chilled, what will happen will happen, if I am watching in the championship it will cost me less, the queues will be shorter and we all will have to learn a whole new load of players as we will be in a different table.
Just sit back now and watch things unfold, up till now other teams have had bad luck so we never know, good luck rather than any control might keep us up, this season.

Comment #73when we have a fully fit squad?? i am sick of hearing that same story week in week out. we have had our 1st 11 out at times this season and what happens, yes we got beat, so kinnear is talking rubbish yet again, just face the facts the squad is not good enough simple as that. if they were we would not be in the mess we are in. am sick of it. am sick of us been rubbish and the laughing stock of the premiership year in year out..

Comment #79hitman nothing will change while Cashley is here, in the August window people were saying they would buy in the Jan window, now in Jan people say they will buy in the summer.
It was predicted by many that Cashley would asset strip – hey its happening.
What next sell the stadium for scrap and the ground for hotels?
