McManus Deal Off – Newcastle Still Negotiating On Ebondo

The Evening Chronicle says today that the deal for Celtic center-back Stephen McManus has fallen through.

Albin Ebondo – why does it take this long to close a deal?

And the reason the deal fell though is hardly surprising, because the Parkhead side were unwilling to pay Jose Enrique’s wages, with the Spanish Under-21 International offered 50% less than he is earning now join the Scottish side.

It will be difficult to unload Jose, because apparently he’s on over £40K/week, but quite honestly we still think the boy can do a good job at Newcastle, and he certainly seems to want to stay and prove himself, and he should improve further as he gets more games.

However, the fact Joe wants to unload him could mean he’s on his way during the summer.

Joe Kinnear is also still hopeful of landing Toulouse right-back Albin Ebondo, after we learned today his club don’t want to sell him in January because they have no cover for him, so how did we get this far in the negotiations if that is true?

That story was reported in the Newcastle Journal this morning.

Newcastle officials were in France today trying to tie up the deal for the 24-year-old, and Kinnear remained optimistic despite claims from the player’s representative that he had been told to stay at Toulouse.

Kinnear said today:

“We are likely to be without Habib Beye for 10 games, and that’s 30 points to play for.”

“We need more than cover, and we need to build up the squad.”

“I’m hopeful Albin will join us and we are just waiting for the handshake on that deal. It’s very much an ongoing thing.”

We hope we can tie Albin up, because the more we hear about the lad, the better player he seems to be and he’s on the verge of a full call-up from the France National side.

We need some good news and signing Albin would be good news as far as we are concerned on this blog.

But we also need more players in by Monday afternoon by 5:00 pm, and we hope to have up to 6 more points in the league by then too.

As we said – we need some good news at this club right now, to lift the gathering doom and gloom.

Comments welcome.

What is wrong with giving Enrique his chance? It is bugging me that Joe Kinnear, who is supposed to be just an interim manager, can decide he wants rid of certain players who WANT to play for NUFC. Yet he tries to keep those who will want away. I am not happy with Joe, who is a temporary stop-gap as far as I am concerned, deciding about team matters for the years to come. It is not YOUR team Joe – it is OURS.

    Enrique is going to Celtic???
This club is in disaster right now. He is our only LB and why we need to swap him with McManus who is blamed for Celtic’s poor performance.
What was Wise doing in NOV/DEC???
Didnt he suppose to plan for club’s tranfer ??

10.25 According to Le 10 Sport, Toulouse are keen to let full-back Albin Ebondo join Newcastle. It is expected a fee in the region of €2.5million would secure his services. Other murmours coming out of France concern Tottenham’s reported interest in Rennes’ Jimmy Briand and Djimi Traore’s likely Portsmouth exit. Monaco are thought to be the defender’s strongest suitors.

Ebondo won’t be coming. Newcastle only ever wanted him on loan, there was never any bid to buy the player. With time rapidly running out, our last remaining chance for any new signing(s) is to get one or two players from Man City in part exchange on the Given deal, but even that’s highly unlikely because Ashley wants the whole lot in cash.

Look deeper into the interview in the chronicle.

He once again says that when the injured players return we’ll be ok.

He’s yet again laying the groun for no signings!

There will be a riot on Sunday if we’ve only bought 1 right back!

We desprately need a creative midfielder!

Why are we even thinking about swapping Enrique for McManus. Enrique will come good if given the chance. He needs compitition for the left-back spot not replacing FFS!

    Question for Kinnear –

Where have the two loan signings from Argentina and Italy?

Where is the £10m you said we had?

Why don’t you stop fckin about over Given, sell him, pocket the money and buy some players that we desprately need???

Fckin arseholes are running our club. I’m depressed and we will go down!

Im ever optimistic – well I am today.

I am 100% sure we are gonna get the “no one wanted to sell” speach when the window closes.

    Not so WISE eh?

Watch Viduka come back and get crocked straight away.

Beye will be back (hopefully) in 10 matches time.

Ameobi – still cant beleive we signed him up on a sick note – well Im not sure what to say on that one.

    Cascapa – dont bother.

Smith – come on son – show us you worth.

Gurthie – cant beleive he got crocked in taining.

No left back cover still and all we got for that is gob-merte Charlie boy.

At least one thing – Barton in the mid.

Oh christ forgot Geremi in all.

Who says the future is bad??

Howay boys – faith. SJP is our chapel.

Enrique imo has done ok, his problem that I see is that his passing or distribution from defence can be terrible and often when he is NOT under pressure he passes the ball straight to the opposition.

I have seen him play well this season but also he’s been poor on occasions.

thank tuck for that, what on earth we’re we thinking selling our only true LB for a crap old center back? This club never ceases to amaze me. we bang on about needing a right back (30 points to play for…yadayada) but then we’d get rid of a promising LB cuz his positioning isn’t great.

Isn’t super trouper the guy who has a contact who works for the mirror or the express or something? Someone on here said they knew someone who worked at a tabloid and they often e-mailed them stuff.

Still doesn’t stop him from being full of it though as we know how wrong the papers get it. Still if you throw enough darts one will hit the board.

Yep, Tribalfootball is just a sh*t-stirring excuse for a site – never click on any of its stories, as they’re just made up to get a reaction.

And talking of made-up garbage, why does everyone believe this tripe about Enrique being offered as a part-ex? What sense is there in that? We’ve had no quotes from anyone to back it up, so we should assume it’s made-up tripe from the tabloids.

I do not know why we do not try Enrique as a central midfielder, he seems better going forward than he is at the back, I would have tried him in that position a couple of months ago.
