The Evening Chronicle says today that the deal for Celtic center-back Stephen McManus has fallen through.
Albin Ebondo – why does it take this long to close a deal?
And the reason the deal fell though is hardly surprising, because the Parkhead side were unwilling to pay Jose Enrique’s wages, with the Spanish Under-21 International offered 50% less than he is earning now join the Scottish side.
It will be difficult to unload Jose, because apparently he’s on over £40K/week, but quite honestly we still think the boy can do a good job at Newcastle, and he certainly seems to want to stay and prove himself, and he should improve further as he gets more games.
However, the fact Joe wants to unload him could mean he’s on his way during the summer.
Joe Kinnear is also still hopeful of landing Toulouse right-back Albin Ebondo, after we learned today his club don’t want to sell him in January because they have no cover for him, so how did we get this far in the negotiations if that is true?
That story was reported in the Newcastle Journal this morning.
Newcastle officials were in France today trying to tie up the deal for the 24-year-old, and Kinnear remained optimistic despite claims from the player’s representative that he had been told to stay at Toulouse.
Kinnear said today:
“We are likely to be without Habib Beye for 10 games, and that’s 30 points to play for.”
“We need more than cover, and we need to build up the squad.”
“I’m hopeful Albin will join us and we are just waiting for the handshake on that deal. It’s very much an ongoing thing.”
We hope we can tie Albin up, because the more we hear about the lad, the better player he seems to be and he’s on the verge of a full call-up from the France National side.
We need some good news and signing Albin would be good news as far as we are concerned on this blog.
But we also need more players in by Monday afternoon by 5:00 pm, and we hope to have up to 6 more points in the league by then too.
As we said – we need some good news at this club right now, to lift the gathering doom and gloom.
