Newcastle After Charlton’s 19 Year-Old Midfielder

The Sun is reporting today that both Aston Villa and Newcastle United are pursuing Charlton Athletic’s 19 year-old central  midfielder, Josh Wright.

Josh Wright – Charlton’s 19 year old midfielder

The 19-year-old England youth international, who has played for his country at Under 16,17,18 and 19 levels, spent the early part of this season on loan at Brentford, but returned to Charlton in October, after playing 5 games for Brentford.

Last season he was loaned out to Barnet and played 32 times for the club, who play in the Coca Cola Football League Two.

The 5’9″ tall player was born in Essex, and joined Charlton’s academy full-time at the age of 16, and then signed a two-year professional contract in April of 2007 at the age of 17.

The youngster is a central midfield play-maker and would be one for the future at Newcastle United.

As we reported last night it also seems that Fiorentina have accepted Newcastle’s bid of £4.5M for their central midfielder Marco Donadel, and now it is presumably up to the player to decide if he wants to move to Tyneside.

With just 5 days left in the January transfer window, we had also better see some defenders moving to the club soon.

We seem to be leaving things to the last minute again, which is hardly good.

Comments welcome.

Aaron Spear chose us instead of Arsenal so we must have some attraction to the youngsters…why should this one be any different?

It is Ok to recruit for the future. However, in order to have a future, we need to recruit some quality players for the first team squad NOW.
In six days it will be too late – once again. It is the same as the last window. I really do doubt the sincerity of Wise and Ashley on their transfer efforts. It is fast becoming SSDD = Same Shite Different Day! Anyway Villa are after Wright as well and we cannot trust onerous O’Neill after his ploys for Owen recently. It seems we are facing asset strippers both within and outside the club. I see Smith was back on form – the Reserves lost!

It must be so pleasing to see that wise is more interested in signing kids than players for the first team. Preparing for the championship maybe.

yeah, along with Jonjo O’Toole and Fabian Delph and whatsisname from Derby. We need a LB and a CM, and preferably ones old enough to buy their own drink.
As Withnail said, “We want the finest wines known to humanity, we want them here and we want them Now!”

it must be pleasing for the spuds because when they get relegated later this season, they will be able to sell all their players, then they can buy them back for double the price whenever they get promoted.

According to La Nazione newspaper in Italy, Donadel will go to Parma in June, even tho they have an offer from the Toon.
il Corriere Fiorentino newspaper are saying the same but add that Genoa are also interested in him.
No suprise then if he isn’t about to sign in this window!!

Hahaha Super.Trooper, you could actually be right though there our cockney billy no mates!

The championship is the perfect place to blood youngsters and if we go down (which there is a very good chance) then the best thing to do is bring through as many youngsters!

Whats Spurs back up plan Super.Trooper? In all seriousness, how much will Spurs lose if they go down?

I’m sure the majority of the first team have release clauses for relegation. Tottenham will not only lose loads of money on players signed, but also could potentially be in serious financial trouble due to not having enough income to meet liabilities.

I agree with Toon Graeme – and said the same about AO. I come on this blog to chat about the Toon, not about other teams and childish crap like who’s got the biggest todger or the best games on their X-box. Let’s face it, super.trooper is on here because he is a bully and wants to pick on people less fortunate (as he sees it) – at the moment that happens to be us. He wouldn’t have been on here when we were going through our best patch in the PL. Like most bullies, though, he will be a coward and with serious inadequacies – why else would he be on another team’s blog? He’s not on Manyoo’s or Chelski’s and probably not even on Arsenal’s ( except perhaps if the Gooners lose) and he will certainly disappear for a while (as did AO) if Spurs lose a game and we win. He is to be pitied – a sad, pathetic individual who has to bolster an inadequate ego by lording it over others. Please don’t give him the satisfaction by entering into any dialogue – if he leaves a comment, pretend you’re ignoring the unfortunate on the bus with Tourette’s who makes noises and swears to himself. Then we can enjoy a decent blog without all the infantile posturing.

Aye Aye lads, freedom of speach and all that. Alot of people are on here and insult him, and he doesn’t really insult people back. He’s not saying anything untoward, and he does seem to be giving opinions that are football related.

If you’re bothered about his comments, then ignore him!!!

@Kuwait Bloke – Agreed, he’s looking after the future, and his efforts to date have secured the present to an extent. he still made msitakes by not appointing a footballing chairman, but I suppose he’s gonna learn the hard way at our expense really!
