Given And N’Zogbia Likely To Leave Newcastle

News today that Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given could be on his way to Premier League rivals Manchester City today.

shay-given-46344

Shay Given – played his last game for Newcastle

But it’s the Sun that is claiming Manchester City are now bidding £8.5M for the goalkeeper, and that bid would probably be acceptable to Newcastle.

We expect Shay to now move to Man City but whether this report has any truth in it, we just don’t know.

The report says that the 32-year-old has already had a medical at Eastlands, but since he didn’t travel with the squad yesterday for the game last night, which Newcastle lost 2-1, we hardly think he’s already had his medical.

The Ireland goalkeeper, who has played 460 times for Newcastle over the last 11 seasons, has basically become fed up at Newcastle, with the direction of the club and the way is is bring run (or not run) by owner Mike Ashley.

The Newcastle squad is too small, and Newcastle fans had hoped we would strengthen the squad in January but it is now looking like Given and even Charles N’Zogbia will leave for a combined £15M, with Charles maybe making the switch to Wigan Athletic, who have bid around £6M for his services.

So that’s £25M Newcastle presumably have to spend and just 4 days left in the transfer market.

With Owen and Barton now out with long term injuries, picked up during last night’s loss, it seems like deja vu – all over again – to us.

Comments welcome.

If Given and Zog leave, we get 15 m for them and we sign NOBODY, it will make me beg the question, “is Mike Ashley doing this to us on purpose!?”

Do you remember that dark day at SJP when the we started chanting:

“You dont know what your doing?”

    Ring true doesnt it.

Sir Bobby Robson – Good Times
    JFK/ MA/ Wise / Llambiarse – TERRIBLE Times

In fact I dont think I have ever felt this way about NUFC before and its like watching a car crash in slow motion and not being able to do owt about it.

    Anyone feel the same?

This club has always done my crust in, more so now with the mixed messages mainly from JFK. Latest u turn this bleak morning is Ashley has lost a fortune and this after he was apparently trying to convince Given to stay by buying Veloso? I wish they would just come out and say one way or the other, and truthfully, are there going to be signings or not. They have had 29 days and only brought in one loan signing, they just cant see the iceberg that is relegation in front of them.

If Shay really wants to leave he should still have the sense to wait for the right club. Just cos city have money doesn’t make them a good club or team.

And 8-10million?!?! Does no one else think this is a shocking amount for a keeper of Given’s quality. How much would buffon be? How much was Gordon?

    not surprise
    Cockney mafia selling best guys…
    who we get in? …………………….?
What MA wants?- Relegation will cost him millions.
The simplest way to MA is to sell NUFC and get out with some profit (together with his pals DW&DL)
Agree with Ed ” MA has no right to own a football club as famous as NU…”
    OUT PLEASE NOW
