News today that Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given could be on his way to Premier League rivals Manchester City today.
Shay Given – played his last game for Newcastle
But it’s the Sun that is claiming Manchester City are now bidding £8.5M for the goalkeeper, and that bid would probably be acceptable to Newcastle.
We expect Shay to now move to Man City but whether this report has any truth in it, we just don’t know.
The report says that the 32-year-old has already had a medical at Eastlands, but since he didn’t travel with the squad yesterday for the game last night, which Newcastle lost 2-1, we hardly think he’s already had his medical.
The Ireland goalkeeper, who has played 460 times for Newcastle over the last 11 seasons, has basically become fed up at Newcastle, with the direction of the club and the way is is bring run (or not run) by owner Mike Ashley.
The Newcastle squad is too small, and Newcastle fans had hoped we would strengthen the squad in January but it is now looking like Given and even Charles N’Zogbia will leave for a combined £15M, with Charles maybe making the switch to Wigan Athletic, who have bid around £6M for his services.
So that’s £25M Newcastle presumably have to spend and just 4 days left in the transfer market.
With Owen and Barton now out with long term injuries, picked up during last night’s loss, it seems like deja vu – all over again – to us.
