Kinnear has confirmed today that Shay Given is likely to go to Man City, and that the player has now been given permission to speak to the Eastlands club.
Shay Given – allowed to talk to Manchester City – but why?
Joe talked about Shay today:
“Shay is on the treatment table but we’ve given him permission to talk.”“That’s as far as we’ve gone.”
If there has been no fee agreed yet between the two clubs, then why is Given being allowed to talk to City?
Of course Newcastle will be under a lot of pressure to allow one of their best ever long-term players who has played over 460 times for the club leave Newcastle on good terms, and Manchester City know that, which is why they are holding out for a £5M deal.
Kinnear is also hopeful of bringing in Ryan Taylor from Wigan, as he talked about that deal today too:.
“We’ve put in a bid and we are waiting for the outcome.”
But Joe has also said that Albin Ebondo looks unlikely to be coming Tyneside after Toulouse doubled their asking price.
“We thought it was a bid of £3million but it ended up being £6million so we pulled out for now.”
Sorry to be so pedantic about this, but how could there have been a misunderstanding of thinking Toulouse had raised their price to £6M, from what we thought was £3M?
That doesn’t sound right somehow.
But maybe that’s why we’ve been linked with left-back Daniel Fox, of Coventry City. We were linked with the player for £2M a couple of weeks ago and maybe an offer of £3M for Daniel would be enough to clinch that deal.
And we are getting some good feedback from Coventry fans and others who have watched the player, that the boy is a very good player in the making.
If we sign Taylor and Fox, there are two good full-backs and of course Ryan can also play on the wing too.
Hope we can get both players in because we need a bigger squad for us to survive in the Premier league this season.
