Given Speaks To Manchester City – Ebondo Deal Off

Kinnear has confirmed today that Shay Given is likely to go to Man City, and that the player has now been given permission to speak to the Eastlands club.

Shay Given – allowed to talk to Manchester City – but why?

Joe talked about Shay today:

“Shay is on the treatment table but we’ve given him permission to talk.”“That’s as far as we’ve gone.”

If there has been no fee agreed yet between the two clubs, then why is Given being allowed to talk to City?

Of course Newcastle will be under a lot of pressure to allow one of their best ever long-term players who has played over 460 times for the club leave Newcastle on good terms, and Manchester City know that, which is why they are holding out for a £5M deal.

Kinnear is also hopeful of bringing in Ryan Taylor from Wigan, as he talked about that deal today too:.

“We’ve put in a bid and we are waiting for the outcome.”

But Joe has also said that Albin  Ebondo looks unlikely to be coming Tyneside after Toulouse doubled their asking price.

Joe added:

“We thought it was a bid of £3million but it ended up being £6million so we pulled out for now.”

Sorry to be so pedantic about this, but how could there have been a misunderstanding of thinking Toulouse had raised their price to £6M, from what we thought was £3M?

That doesn’t sound right somehow.

But maybe that’s why we’ve been linked with left-back Daniel Fox, of Coventry City. We were linked with the player for £2M a couple of weeks ago and maybe an offer of £3M for Daniel would be enough to clinch that deal.

And we are getting some good feedback from Coventry fans and others who have watched the player, that the boy is a very good player in the making.

If we sign Taylor and Fox, there are two good full-backs and of course Ryan can also play on the wing too.

Hope we can get both players in because we need a bigger squad for us to survive in the Premier league this season.

Comments welcome.

I get the feeling that it is simply any player we can sell for more money than the ones we can buy will be sold.

I thought we had turned a corner with Nolan, but not if Zog leaves.

If we sell Given which saviour of relegation are we bringing in??

We will play Duff where Zog played which results in less goals, I do not see clever relegation avoidence here.

All I hope is that the Zog deals falls down and if we sell Given we get a good player in a position where he is needed in return.

Bye bye dear Shay, thanks for all your wonderful displays at Newcastle United.

Wish you all luck at your new adventure!
(even though I hoped that City would be relegated this season)

5 Million AND a player would be acceptable, but even 7 million which was quoted at our valuation isnt really enough of a player of his calibre.

Ed, I think the misunderstanding was that Toulouse think we are still rich, so they got mercenary about the deal. For once I believe JK.

Ian, I can’t really understand why you think Zog is this pivotal player for us. He’s had about 2 decent appearences and hardly scored at all or provided many assists.

Worse still, he’s poison for team spirit.

And Kaz Lua Lua has all his talent without the utter gittiness.

Even if he stays, I want him out of the dressing room and cleaning boots so someone who deserves the shirt can be given a chance.

Whumpie we are close to relegation, 2 goals could be the difference of it keeps going like the first part of the season.

Owen is out, our top scorer.

NZogbia has always scored and provides assists, he also is the perfect player alongside Martins, where are the goals going to come from?

I agree he hasnt scored many but he is our third top scorer behind the strikers.

The signing of Nolan is obviously based on the fact that we’ve now agreed to sell Shay. Hopefully, we’ve got a figure close to £8m quoted in the press and can push through the Ryan Taylor deal before the weekend – would be nice to have someone who can take a decent set piece in the team again!

Also hope we can send ‘Le Sulk’ to Spurs in a part-ex for Bent.

raped again nice one mike realy getting sick of this now easy touch. And sweden the reason people are not happy about the nolal sighning is that he has been kept out of the bolton team for most of the season and thats bolton we are supposed to be a big club now just taking bench walmers of in my eyes inferior clubs

Hope we get Fox, looks a brilliant prospect, good at set pieces too. Taylor would be a decent signing but nothing more, get rid of N’Zogbia and use the money for a good midfielder or striker.

I hope that Sky story is true – I’d be a lot happier with a full-back on the books.

That said (and I may get my head bitten off here), if I dare mention Wednesday’s game: I’ve only seen highlights, but I did get the impression that both Edgar and Enrique looked really good going forward. Can someone who was at the game tell me if they actually played ok in that match?
