It’s now official because it’s on the official club site, that Newcastle United United have indeed completed the signing of Bolton Wanderers midfielder Kevin Nolan, for a fee of £4M, on a contract that will keep the player at Newcastle through the summer of 2013.
Kevin Nolan – will wear the number 4 shirt at Newcastle
The Newcastle web site said today:
The 26-year-old penned a four-and-a-half year deal at St.James’ Park this morning on Friday morning and will wear the No.4 shirt for the Magpies.
A delighted Nolan told nufcTV this morning:
“It’s all happened so quickly but it was an opportunity which was impossible to turn down.”
“I can’t wait to play in front of these fans every week and I’m really looking forward to the next four-and-a-half years.”
There will be an interview with the player this afternoon on nufcTV, and we cannot wait to hear what Kevin says in a deal that took less than 24 hours to complete.
So Newcastle have now proved that when they have to, they can move at lightning speed, and this will go a little way to making Newcastle fans a little happier.
But now the club must press on to sign more players before Monday afternoon. If we can do that we’ll have a chance of keeping our Premier league status this season.
We’d now like to see both Albin Ebondo and Ryan Taylor brought to the club as soon as possible, and more good players if we are indeed to sell Shay Given and Charles N’Zogbia, because if both players go we should be around £14M better off.
But let’s not sell N’Zogbia unless we can get a good player in to replace him.
Comments welcome.

Comment #10Shit they don’t muck about with the photo ops do they?
On an earlier thread I made a comment ‘it’s never as easy as we think to sign players, a lot wan’t want to come to us, we don’t know what happens really….’
Absolute bollocks that was then, Nolans proof you can do a deal and get him on the pitch with the shirt in his hand in about 2 days time.
hang on maybe it’s photoshopped??!!!! lol!

Comment #13We should not get carried away by this. Its good signing but don’t we need more. I am suspecting this signing has been done to just cover Barton’s position. We still has not moved ahead with anything else. I am hoping we should sign at least one more player before end of day today. And hopefully 1 before close of window. I would personally like insomnia 😉 to stay, but not sure if he will play well enough now or not. We should not let him go away without good deal for club and also without buying anyone else to replace him.

Comment #27sirjasontoon thats great really….dont know if it will motivate him though 🙂 I disagree though Ed we need to get rid of Zog regardless of replacement. He is a cancer. take the hit and let him go for five and taylor or five to a french club

Comment #28Quite surprised by the £4M fee. I thought he is going to cost twice that considering that he is the skipper for Bolton. Well, £4M is a nice sum to pay for an established player, would rather have him for this sum than M’bia for £10M.
Ryan Taylor next? I wonder how much he will cost. And please no N’Zogbia in a straight swap. N’Zogbia is worth £7M at least.

Comment #29good signing in nolan! lets forget about not selling zog until we get a replacement, he is a spoilt brat who constantly spits out his dummy, such an unsettling influence should be offloaded straight away, whatever the bid! he’ll soon realise his mistake of burning his bridges. zog oot!

Comment #31I was thinking the other day that while we needed signings who the hell, that was any good, would sign for us?
I suppose the best we could go for was a decent premiership pro, whose been through a relegation battle before, who has had no injuries worries – but who was probably down on his luck enough to consider signing for us despite our current situation.
Step forward Kevin Nolan. In the last couple of years he has had his fair share of detractors at Bolton. There’ll be quite a few happy to see him gone.
So we shouldn’t be thinking we have just signed the Kevin Nolan who was once knocking on England’s door.
But if he’s been that good – then he can be again. It’s not like his legs have gone or anything.
And he’s going to love going from playing in front of the Bolton boo boys to a full(ish) house (for now) at SJP.
I reckon Joe’s got a good a player as we can expect to sign in the circumstances.
We were always going to have to gamble on a player because anyone else won’t touch us right now. But better to gamble on a fit, healthy, honest, home grown pro – than another Carlo Kick-A-Ball or some knee-knacked has been.
Whatever his reason for falling out with the Bolton fans – he was still captain for a reason.
I reckon he’s well worth a few quid for first goal against the mackems. Instant legend status if he does.

Comment #39Charlietoon- if we could get £4 for zog with taylor our way i’d take it like.
We’d only get £6M max for zog in the summer, probably less if he hasn’t played for that time, wants to leave and the club definately want rid of…
We’d have no pulling power in a deal with anyone then, and would probably lower our price.
