The news today that Manchester City will sign Shay Given for £8M, will give Newcastle some much needed cash to further strengthen their squad before tomorrow afternoon at 5:00 pm, so let’s hope we don’t blow this opportunity.
Ryan Taylor – already on his way for £1.5M – £2M
And there is every likelihood that Charles N’Zogbia will move to Wigan for £6M, maybe not his best choice of club, but there’s no room for him back at Newcastle, so we think he’ll sign today.
That will be £14M the club have brought into the coffers, and for the 3 players we’ve tied up so far we have paid just £6M, at most.
Peter Lovenkrands – free
Kevin Nolan £4M
Ryan Taylor £2M
So hopefully there are other players we could bring in.
If we now spend another £8M in January it will have cost Ashley nothing in transfer fees in January. If we also spend the £10M he allocated to Joe, then we have £18M to spend – with 29 hours left in the transfer window.
We’d like to see at least one new defender brought in, and those could possibly be 22 year-old left back Daniel Fox of Coventry, Kyle Naughton, the 20 year-old Sheffield United full-back, Nedum Onuoha of Man City, or even Lucas Neill of West Ham for just £2M.
Lucas can play anywhere along the back four, and has so much experience we could use in the relegation fight.
As far as midfielders go, there is Giles Barnes of Derby County, who is fit again and said to be moving to Fulham on loan, Michael Johnson from Man City, Rangers captain Barry Ferguson, or even Miguel Veloso from Sporting Lisbon.
And we could try to get a striker in too, say Saviola on loan from Real Madrid, or even Kris Commons, Derby County’s exciting forward.
We’ll not go through all the players available here, suffice to say there are many that we could potentially bring in, and we would expect Dennis Wise to be off trying to do the deals, and not be at the game today.
He probably wasn’t going to make the trip up from London in any case, but we don’t want to see him there today – he should be working the deals. 😀
It will also be disappointing if we have been unable to get any players to go in the opposite direction from Manchester City.
But Newcastle now have an excellent chance of getting 3 more good players in and helping to ensure we’ll still be in the Premier League next season – don’t blow it.
Comments welcome.

I like this thread lol, yes i remember Ashley releasing 10 million before we brought in Nolan and there are the sales of other players like Given and N’zogbia, here’s to hoping we see a few good players but as far as Veloso is concerned it may take up to much money available to JK.

This 10million allocated to JK stuff is nonsense. WHat is with the selected hearing. JK said he had 10million to spend once, but stated he needed to sell in order to buy around three or four times. What is more likely?…
What we have left to spend is around 8million and we will probably bring in two players with that money.

Comment #13Ed, just so you know, Barnes has already gone to Fulham, and supposedly they have the option to buy him at the end of the season. Shame really, I wouldn’t have minded getting him in.

Comment #22We won’t get anybody else…get used to it.
We have no money…the club and Ashley is “poor”.
Kinnear said Mike is writing a check every week to pay for wages with his own money.
We will get Ryan Taylor and the profit will be pocketed by the club and Mike.
Get used to it.

top 4 are miles away because they’ve gone past the 20 mill mark time and time again.
we’ve got owen at 17 mill for the past how many years?
there has never been progress ever since then all backwards.
even the transfer of youngsters are nowhere near the standards others are paying for their youngsters.
it’s no surprise we are in deep shite year on year.

Comment #35I’ve never seen Veloso play, but I’m of the mind we should bring in two or three players for that kind of money.
What was the snag over M’Bia? Wasn’t that deal in the neighborhood of 5 or 6 million?
Is he similar to Veloso?

Comment #39This blog should be shut down and left to hang by true Toon fans.
Such a load of drivel I’ve never read, e.g. Giles Barnes signed for Fulham yesterday! Do your homework and stop acting like a 3 year old playing championship manager. Ashley will not spend a single penny until this club is sold, which is years off.
As for Given, I hope he breaks both his legs. he may be tired of the goings on at the club, try being a fan Shay and not being paid 60K a week to do it. You’re a mercenary and thats all, you’ll never win a thing at Citeh either, you money grabbing little sh*te. Hope the arabs walk out and you’ll be rotting in the reserves when they sign a real top goalie.
