Newcastle Agree £8M Fee For Given With Manchester City

Sky Sports is reporting today that Shay Given is having his medical right now after Manchester City presumably finally agreed a fee with Newcastle for the player.

Shay Given – finally on his way

Sky Sports sources have confirmed Shay Given is having a medical at Manchester City, after the Eastlands club finally thrashed out a fee with Newcastle for the goalkeeper.

We are being told the fee agreed is £8M, but Newcastle fans will also be interested to know if any Manchester City players like Michael Johnson, Nedum Onuoha, Daniel Sturridge, Tal Ben-Haim or Blumer Elano are coming in the other direction.

But it seems it will soon be made official that Shay Given has indeed left that club he joined in the summer of 1997, from Blackburn Rovers.

It’s hard to keep players who don’t want to be at the club, and we’re sorry to see Shay leave, and thank him for his tremendous and loyal service to the Newcastle United club of 460 appearances.

He’s been a joy to watch for Newcastle over the last 12 years, and has been a credit to our club, and of course we wish him the very best.

It will now be a new era at Newcastle with Given gone.

On the other hand we’d be more than pleased to see babyface Charles N”Zogbia leave today for Wigan.

If Charles leaves for£6M, then that’s £14M in the coffers, and enough to buy at least 3 new players (not including Ryan Taylor) before tomorrow afternoon.

And we should go for it.

Comments welcome.

dnt understand on this one why people are having a go at ashley! he went up to try and make shay stay, offered him an improved 6 year contract, what more can u expect from him? as long as the money is reinvested its fine, kinnear has called veloso a realistic target, so hopefully if he comes in and a left back, potentially a striker on loan, we will be much better! it will definitely be worth it!

ashley went up far too late to save the shay situation, the damage has been done by his piss poor management, and the state of the club.

You cannot blame Shay for wanting to go, and anyone who does not blame ashley for this mess has rocks in their heads.

We are hearing now that the players were not communicated with after Keegan left…how shocking is that, then Ashley puts the whole squad up for sale…idiot!

Will miss you Shay, if we dont egt any players coming in the other way, I will be pissed off!

Got to agree with RichY. I just can’t believe the fee! Fine if he wants to leave but we don’t need to shoot ourselves in the foot with a pathetic fee! Look at RSC at Blackburn. No doubting he wants to go and city want him but Blackburn aren’t doing business unless the deal is great for them. I’d even consider anything under £20m a disgrace!

thanks toonkistan, thats the best thing about veloso he is exactly what we need right now and thats the appeal of havin him, same as taylor they can basically play anywhere, so as players come back to fitness e.g. in central midfield he can mve to centre of left back, when they are fit again he can move into whichever position is his best!

Why is everyone so sentimental over what is a footballing mercenary? Players will always come and go, thats the nature of their employment and they need to accumulate as much cash as they can during their short careers, its time to move on and get behind the team. He didnt want to stop at the club so for those that are bubbling – get over it.

i dont blame shay, but i dnt blame anyone, money talks, and i kno 8 million doesnt sound like much but cech went to chelsea when he was 23 for 11 million, shay is 32 its not silly money, but its an ok deal, i love shay, i sit in the miblurn stand pretty much in line with the goal, i kno how good he is, BUT this sentimentality is what makes people think he is worth more!
