Sky Sports is reporting this morning that Newcastle United have firmed up their interest in Manchester City’s Michael Johnson by lodging a bid for the 20 year-old midfielder.
Michael Johnson – Newcastle after him – and he wants to come
Joe Kinnear and Mike Ashley are said to be big fans of the gifted Eastlands youngster, who appears ready to leave Manchester City.
Sky Sports is reporting that Johnson is open to moving to Newcastle and the North East club are hopeful they can conclude a deal before the 5:00 pm deadline today.
Newcastle are believed to be offering around £8M for the player and are confident that will be enough to persuade Manchester City to sell their highly rated player.
Since we were told that Shay Given went the other way for the same amount, this could turn out to be straight swap – Given for Johnson.
If this news is true then we can forget about Miguel Veloso coming to the club, but Johnson would be an excellent signing as far as Newcastle fans are concerned.
Michael has already played for the England Under-21 side twice, and the six footer has played for Manchester City 36 times with 2 goals, not too bad for a lad who will only turn 21 later this month.
While he’s been injured most of this season, he’s looked a great player in the making, and has already shown, at just 20 years of age, that he can play well in the Premier League.
Newcastle may have some competition, but we hope the deal is fart enough long that we can tie the player up before 5:00 pm today, and that would be a great acquisition for Newcastle.
