Sky Sports is reporting that Manchester City have rejected an £8M offer from Newcastle for midfielder Michael Johnson.
Michael Johnson staying at Eastlands
Newcastle had been interested in the 20 year-old for some time and launched a bid this morning for the England Under-21 International.
Newcastle had been hopeful of concluding a deal and it was understood that Johnson was open to the idea of moving to St James’ Park, but it looks like the City club turned down the deal.
It seems to us like Newcastle should have made Johnson going in the other direction part of the Shay Given deal, but the Eastlands club have got their man and Newcastle haven’t.
This is hardly good news for Newcastle fans.
Remember that’s what Wigan asked for when they were willing to let Ryan Taylor go to Newcastle, but only if Charles N’Zogbia went the other way.
We think we’ve been hoodwinked by Manchester – that’s what it looks like to us – unfortunately. 🙁
The club should send Dennis Wise to negotiating school, we know there’s a 3 day class in negotiating that IBM consultants all take at the company, as part of their training.
It’s a pity we didn’t send Dennis to that, and we may have ended up with Michael Johnson – a top young talent.

Comment #43The Good News:
*We’ve saved money
*We’ve got shot of Insomnia
*We have bought well in Taylor and Nolan
The Bad News:
*Our thin squad has not improved
*We picked up more injuries during this period
*The fans are gutted again.
*Our rivals have improved
*Man Citeh made us out to be mugs
*We havent learnt lessons from summer.
*Our board are inexperienced in transfers
Its a shame there are more bad points than good but thats life at Newcastle these days.
The run in is going to be tough.

Comment #44We didn’t get Fox, since we weren’t even after him……
Fox not going
Danny Fox is not joining Newcastle United says Coventry City Chairman Ray Ranson.
Various media outlets have Newcastle as bidding £1.3m or £1.6m for the left back but Ranson laughed that off saying: “That is laughable. It wouldn’t even pay for Danny’s big toe!
“I’d be lying if I said there hasn’t been interest in some of our better players but we have not received any offers and we have not been encouraging any either because we are not interested in selling our best players.
“We are building something here and if the fans can’t see what we are doing now, then they never will.”

Comment #46Johnson failed a medical supposedly.
I’ve also heard that JFK and Ashley have both failed medicals for Intelligence .. cause they’re f’in stupid to think they’ve done enough to get us out of a relegation battle .. route one football here we come.. no pace in midfield .. and we need a win at west brom .. dire dire times.

Comment #49Ahhh. I sed when window shuts i would judge Ashley. One thing is clear, we need people who can do business not Wise and Lambias.
The fact they we were after Johnson on the last day when we had been selling Given, so no time for a contingecy plan is shocking.
If he failed medical, the GUTTED!

Note for summer, when attracting 1 divison players. Dont leave it until the last day of the window they may fail medical and leave us up a certain creek without a paddle.

Comment #57I think the loss of Given definitely means our squad is worse off. As everyone seems to agree, if we were really after Johnson he would have been part of the Given deal. Th enext few months are going to ne a real struggle.
Howay the lads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment #58Been saying all afternoon – what did you expect – go and look at the books – WE HAVE NO MONEY.
All the cash that we got from player sales HAS ALREADY BEEN SPENT BY FAT FRED LAST YEAR. He gave it away to his mates, the directors.
However hard it is to take, ASHLEY HAS RESCUED US from CERTAIN ADMINISTRATION at the end of the season, but the price to pay is that we lose some of our players. The policy is that in 2 years time we will have a crop of talented youngsters oming through.
He hasnt communicated it well, but its obvious thats what the situation is. Ask anyone who can read a balance sheet…..

Comment #60Yep transfer team have cost us a manager and probably 6-8 places in the league .. sack that poision dwarf wise and the laima*s our dumbstruck chairman.. only saving grace for Ashley is that the fans will continue to back the team .. although if we get relegated .. he’s in for a hell of a back lash.

Comment #67Well I don’t think it’s DESPERATE yet. We got some decent players in, and a few people are right – we have a lot of good players to come back from injury.
It worries me though, that MA has the Given/Zog money in his back pocket now, and you can guarantee it wont roll over into summer kitty – especially if he’s going to try and sell again!
I still cant get over it if we sold Given for £6m!
Who the frig were these players that Kinnear was on about only this morning that he was confident about?! I think he should be banned from talking to the media for the rest of the season! I know we get annoyed by the crap communication policy by the club, but I’d rather hear nothing than that.
And as for MA with his ‘yellow tickergate’ – he should really know better than to taunt us with supposed signings, only for us to get let down….badly!!

Comment #71I’m happy enough with the three we got. It’s not the end of the world that we didn’t get more, though it would have been nice.
I’m not going to start demanding Ashley’s head like some here. Things could have gone better but I sincerely doubt that the owner is deliberately trying to sabotage his own club.
Look for the positives people, some clubs are for worse off than we are.
