Sky Sports is reporting that Manchester City have rejected an £8M offer from Newcastle for midfielder Michael Johnson.
Michael Johnson staying at Eastlands
Newcastle had been interested in the 20 year-old for some time and launched a bid this morning for the England Under-21 International.
Newcastle had been hopeful of concluding a deal and it was understood that Johnson was open to the idea of moving to St James’ Park, but it looks like the City club turned down the deal.
It seems to us like Newcastle should have made Johnson going in the other direction part of the Shay Given deal, but the Eastlands club have got their man and Newcastle haven’t.
This is hardly good news for Newcastle fans.
Remember that’s what Wigan asked for when they were willing to let Ryan Taylor go to Newcastle, but only if Charles N’Zogbia went the other way.
We think we’ve been hoodwinked by Manchester – that’s what it looks like to us – unfortunately. 🙁
The club should send Dennis Wise to negotiating school, we know there’s a 3 day class in negotiating that IBM consultants all take at the company, as part of their training.
It’s a pity we didn’t send Dennis to that, and we may have ended up with Michael Johnson – a top young talent.

Comment #81Once again NUFC earn MA some money in the transfer window…
In: Nolan 4,5 mill
In: Løvenkrands free
In: Taylor free as part of Zog deal
Out: Given 8 mill
Out: Zog 6 mill
total net sum for MA’s pockets 9,5 mill… Dont use them all in the roulette MA, you know we gotta keep your other firms in bussiness… Gutted
Last Summer
In: Jonas on a fifa rule 2.5 mill
In: Colo 9,5 mill
In: Bassong nominal
In: Guthrie 2 mill
Total: 14 mill
Out: Milner 12 mill
Faye: 2 mill
Roz: 2,9 mill
Emre: 4 mill
Total 20,9
Net gain: 8,9
The summer before…
In: Barton 5.8 mill
In: Roz 3.1
In: Smith 6 mill
In: Enrique 6 mill
In: Faye 2 mill
In: Beye 2 mill
total: 24,9
Out: Parker 7 mill
Out: Dyer 8 mill
Out: O’Brian 200k
Out: Huntington 500k
Out Solano 1 mill
Out: Luque 2 mill
Out: Pattison 1 mill
Total spent 19,7
Net spend 5,2… In all his time at the club, we have earned 13,2 mill in transfers… Yah, we must be in deep financial trouble… If we keep on like this, then we soon have no more players to sell and a troop that just aint good enough.

Comment #82bobby_ollox – are you on the payroll as well?
To say Ashley hasn’t communicated well is a bit of an understatement. What about the “wow” signings? Maybe Ashley should have got you to read the balance sheet before he bought the club. If he couldn’t afford it why the f&*k did he buy us, now we’re being dragged down in to the Championship through Ashley’s mismanagement.

Comment #85If we were on the point of administartion with about £100m worth of debt, Liverpool must have already gone. How many points will they have deducted? Looks like they have no chance of winning the league now.

Comment #86BT9 – How is this being conspiracy theorists? Surely the transfer of a player doesn’t rest on passing a medical alone? Remember Given was carrying a knock when he went to City, N’Zogbia also, unless you think we were lied to…gasp?
Unless Johnson failed the medical for some long term injury then wtf? He has an injury, surely we knew that before we tried to sign him for 8M!!!
Why not.. take his registration as part of Given deal, if he plays more than 20 games for us then we pay the 8M, if he never plays for us, presumably anyone else, then no fee is transfered. Simple!
Conspiracy my arse!

Comment #87If we missed out on Johnson and Fox i’m not too bothered, we have a left back already and Ryan Taylor can cover there, and Johnson is injured and an alcoholic, so not much use to us in the next few months. I’m praying we had another deal lined up that hasnt been announced yet, but not too hopeful!

Comment #88Really our future all comes down to players achieving things they have not achieved before, releasing potential we will not have a clue what sort of team we will have for a couple of games till they settle in.
I am just so pleased that we have a striker in Martins that can make goals from nothing and scatter a defense, if we didnt have him creating opportunities and spaces in defense I would say we were almost certain to go down, with him we have a chance, Viduka and Owen it depends if they are uninjured.

Good to be level headed and I agree with the youth policy!
This transfer window has been awful for everyone!
Totenham bought back all the players they didn’t want 6 months ago and City (despite their billions) haven’t exactly set the place alight with their signings!

Maybe I didn’t word it quite right…What I meant was there’s people on here who literally use any scrap of evidence (be it David Craig’s ramblings or otherwise) to slate the board/the manager.
Do you genuinely think we didn’t try to get Johnson as part of the Given deal?
Same as that stupid Oba/Bent rumour – people saying “Ashley cashing in on Oba” – …how, it was a lie in the first place, but IF it had been true, it was a straight swap i.e. no cash involved!

Comment #103we dont have pace upfront and we urgently need a small and pacey striker – this should be the priority for the last 48 hours and we failed to capture anyone.
yesterday we could won if we had a pacey striker upfront.
The only thing we can do now is playing Ryan Taylor play at RW and let Duff play as 2nd striker and this the only option we have for now till martin back from injury.
I’m very disappoint with this window and MA shouldnt give any stupid reason like ” we cannot attract any players” because others have done their job in transfer market.
I know its very hard for us to survive since we still have to meet top 4 and the failure to capture players in this window only make the thing worse

Comment #104RyanToon, grow up, how old are you like 14?
Im not an Ashley lover, im a Newcastle United lover, i support my team every week unlike you. People like you do nothing but harm to the club. Go support the mackems.
You all made up transfer stories in your heads. Not once did Kinnear say we were after Mbia, Veloso, Saviola.
And now you moan that we havent signed players you dreamt up. Get over it.

Comment #105Bobby Ollox… Bull, we get a bid rejected on deadline day!!!… The club havnt got a clue in the transfer window, that the fact of it. Its not about lack of money… If we had so large problems so we actually have to earn money in transfer windows as we have so far, then its just a question of time when we’re relegated aint it?

Comment #108I’ve got a 3 year deal, but won’t cancel as much as I dislike Ashley. I’m supporting the lads on the pitch, them along with the fans are NUFC. Our owner is ruining the club, maybe its just because he hasn’t a clue about how a football club is run, I don’t know. But the only reason I would ever stop my ticket is if I could no longer afford it.

Comment #113Spartan – if he had of done I would have told him not to buy it – it was in a mess, and the people who got us into that mess got away scot free as far as I am concerned. He is left holding the baby.
I’m no fan of his – the man is an idiot – I dont know what all that bollox about the ticker tape signing was all about, but I know this – he has put more money into this club than he has taken out by a long long way. All this lunacy about him pocketing $10M this transfer season is just nonsense.

Comment #114Areet lads, just in from work and i’ve gotta say, i dont really know if “disappointed” cuts it.
I wasnt expecting numerous bodies through the door, (even though thats what we need), but if im honest a small part of me expected more than just Ryan Taylor, a signing that we were already pretty confident was going through anyway. Even just one more.
I’d say lesson learnt, but its clearly not in Ashleys case. This isnt the first time we’ve tried to do all our business in the closing stages of the transfer window and its been proved on numerous occasions that it doesnt work-unless you’re someone like spurs who are willing to throw cash about all over the shop, something Ashley clearly isnt willing to do.
I think its rather pointless for people to say “wait for the official site, wait for this, wait for that”-the paperwork had to be through to the FA by 5 oclock. If we were going to make any more signings, they would have been mentioned on sky spors, just not officially confirmed. Dont get your hopes up. Our transfer window resulted in
Loven-free
Taylor-p/ex
Nolan-4.5 mil.
Given-6 mil (complete steal, we’ve been fleeced by citeh like)
