The Daily Mail is reporting that England Under-21 international Ryan Taylor has joined Newcastle United, in a deal which sees Charles N’Zogbia move to Wigan Athletic, and Newcastle also get an additional £6M.
Ryan Taylor – Newcastle get him plus £6M for Zog
We don’t know if this story by the Mail is true, but if it is it would mean that Charles was valued at around £8M, which would be a good deal for the Tyneside club.
We got the lad for around £400K from French club Le Havre in August, 2004, which is another way the Youth strategy can work at Newcastle, by bringing money into the club for those we elect to sell.
Taylor, who was out of contract at the JJB in the summer, has scored 6 goals in his 56 games at Wigan, but of course 4 of those goals have been in successive games against Newcastle.
Joe Kinnear said yesterday about Ryan:
“Ryan’s very versatile, and that’s the reason why I went for him.”
“He’s got a long throw and he’s also excellent at set plays.”
“He scores goals from dead ball situations. He can play wide left, left-back, right-back and wide right.”
“If we have injuries in those areas, the boy’s capable of doing exceptionally well.
“He played for England’s Under-21s, and I think there’s much more to come from him.”
We have to hope this news is true, because Joe said that Ryan coming to Newcastle was dependent on Charles going the other way.
If it’s true then Ryan become the 3rd player through the door for Newcastle in this winter transfer window, and it seems another great deal for the club.
