One of the pleasing things in this transfer window is at least the players Newcastle are going after are good players, who would improve the Newcastle squad.
Kieran Richardson – very cheeky bid from Newcastle
And one of the players Newcastle went after yesterday is Kieran Richardson of Sunderland, who has always been a good player.
He was outstanding when he went on loan to WBA in 2005, and was one of the players who kept West Bromwich in the Premier League that year, and he has shown great promise in the Sunderland side, and can score from free-kicks too, as we found out last year.
I’ve never seen a ball hit that hard, than the free kick he put home against Newcastle at The Stadium Of Light last year, and from from a standing start! That’s great technique, nothing else.
Newcastle wanted to take the former Manchester United and England international to St James’s Park, but what would have been an audacious move never came close to getting off the ground.
Sunderland boss Ricky Sbragia revealed today:
“There was a cheeky enquiry, but it was never any more than that.”
“To be honest, we’ve had quite a few cheeky enquiries over the months that never got anywhere near getting off the ground and that was one of them.”
“Clubs are entitled to try it on if they want to, but I’ve made it clear that I want to keep my very best players at the club.”
Maybe the bid was made to upset Sunderland, but now that Kieran knows a much bigger club is after him than his present club, he could be swayed to join the famous Magpies in the summer.
Boy, that tongue is really getting into my cheek. 😀
