Nicky Butt Signs One Year Contract At Newcastle

Newcastle United central midfielder Nicky Butt has signed a one-year contract extension which will keep him at the Newcastle club until the end of next season.

Nicky Butt – signed a one year deal extension today

The 34-year-old signed for Newcastle United while Bobby Robson was still manager, in the summer of 2004, and has gone on to make 138 appearances scoring five times along the way.

After a less than good start at Newcastle, Nicky has done really well since returning from his season long loan spell at Birmingham, from 2006 – 2006.

That was under then manager Steve Bruce, and if Birmingham had not been relegated that season, Nicky would have joined Brum in a £2M deal, that had already been agreed between the two clubs.

Nicky has played well for the Geordies, and his experience is often vital to the side, and he wants to stay at Newcastle too, which we found out recently is still important for all our players who remain at the club.

We don’t want players who don’t want to be here and fight for the cause, whatever their reasons, valid or otherwise.

Butt joins team-mates and local lads Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi in committing their future to the Newcastle club since the beginning of the year.

    This is generally good news.

Butt is an enigma, absolutel brilliant and absolutely shocking all in the same game and sometimes game to game.

Personally I’m more of a fan of his than a detracter, however the bad thing about this new deal is that if JFK stays Butt will be played over one of Barton/Nolan/Guthrie.

Woo Hoo…what great news, another year of a guy that can’t pass to a teammate and gives away silly fouls and runs at the pace of a snail.

    Fantastic.

Good news or bad news ? Another 1 year with Butt. He’s good sub if we want to close the game but if he’s starting line-up mean we lose 1 players on attacking game.

dont anyone bother slagging butt off ffs, he is a very good squad player and has a great positive effect in the team. for anyone who went to the game on sunday, unless you saw it differrent to me, i would say butt did a very good job alongside nolan. butt is still very fit and can do a good job for us, end of.

i dont think butt would be played over nolan…..
nolan is very good leader in mid field, which lacks when butt is out…..
    ps stoke game

    though his game is PATHETIC……
think he should be used for coaching the young players in the club… thats it

this one actually funny.. we already have guthrie, barton and nolan.. why they gave an extension to an ageing under-performing butt?? are they trying to sell barton in the summer??

Toon_Syndney – Big fan of Shikbala, been mnetioning him on here for a while, I just want something different in ur team. Aboutreika again is a very good player, I would like to see him go to europe before its too late as he is getting on. Hosny is a decent box-to-box player but in reality isn’t as good as what we have and I dont rate Moteab at all.

Why do people still think the club was going bust?

Why do you all believe the figures ashley published about the clubs finances, they are just more spin to get money out of loyal supporters pockets and into his. The last time any accurate reporting of the clubs finances took place was when ashley bought the club since then its a private business with no public access to the books. He can say whatever he wants about the clubs finances there is no real evidence.

If the club is losing 35 million a year then it’s no ones fault but his because it was not publishing a loss like this before his take over when the finances were open to public scrutiny while operating as a PLC.

I don’t hate Kinnear and I think the players brought in during this transfer window were decent signings but I do think Kinnear is out of his depth and the singings inadequate. There is a sickness at the club and its MA and his cronies.

he’s good squad backup for next season, and adds experience. i’d not expect him to be first choice next year – though he may look a class above in the championship!

This is not good news as far as I am concerned. He is far too slow these days. This season should’ve been his last if not the one before. If you don’t have pace in the premier league you struggle just like Butt does week in week out. What a joke by the way with the Johnson/Given scenario. Man City say we want Given. NUFC say we want Johnson. MC: Well we will have Shay first then you can have Johnson ok? NUFC: Ok then. MC: Can’t believe they fell for that line AND accepting 6m for Shay – TOTAL MUGS

    NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

make him a coach and then sign a dm in the summer and bring in appiah for 6 months.

butt is so slow it’s ridiculous. he’s 10 yards off the pace of the game, gives away freekicks and even penalties. yes he’s good experience in the dressing room but hopefully he’ll get maybe 1 or 2 starts and a handful of late sub appearences next season and that will be it! 🙂

to all those moaning that there is a credit crunch on and so there was no spending this year clubs spent more than last year triple the year before, etc going on the way back to 2003, so it’s not the credit crunch that’s crap ashley has absolutely 0 excuses, if he had no money he should have sold it for exactly what he bought it for rather then trying to get double so all those moaning bout poor mike’s lack of cash should get real, yet again il say as well, like most people how can a club 1 place above the relegation zone make a 10 MILLION POUND PROFIT?!?!?!?! are you joking? how can you justify that?

north atlantic magpie……….why is he too old at 34. its just number ffs. kluivert was finished at 28 when we got him, gary speed was awasome still at 36. its only numbers mate. butt is fit and is a good squad player for us, without him this season we would have been even more fcuked m8. now with barton and guthrie out, butt is turning out to be a first choice. i hope next season it will be nolan and barton with butt as back up and young guthrie learning from the three of them. its not all doom and gloom.

my only worry is if we stay up. thats not cos of the way the team looks now or the spirit, its cos of the lack of harmony and spirt up until this window. for me, we have sorted a lot of crap out over the last few days. butt and harper tied up and happy at last. given and that maoning french turd gone so got rid of the moaners, plus two very good signings and a decent freeby in lovenkrands. if we can manage to stay up i think we should try to get a real manager for next season. jfk is not the answer alas. hats off to him for taking the job that no other manager in the world would touch. we owe him thanks for that at least.

if you can say thats is a good article your deluded mate. Though not a lover of Ashley (though i hate the fact i need to come on ere and identify my self as that to the bigots) the article is horribly subjective, bitter and filled with a hate that is purely fueled from ignorance to the broader spetrum.
if stardust is a cretin for being reasoned and objective, then i stand next to him, cretins alike!

cooldj .. some tripe being spouted in the papers .. we went for this player etc .. we did very little in the transfer market and that was after we had key squad members out injured and they were required.. it shows that ashley wants rid of us and is cutting costs as much as possible .. look at the money he is now saving on given/n’somnia’s wages every week .. he’s laughing at us as usual ..

Butt had a good game against the Mackems, some excellent passes and tackles, and harried them all throughout the game. He may play less of a part next season but still a good influence to have around and good cover.
