Most fans are more than glad to see the back of Charles N’Zogbia, but it was a very different story with the great Shay Given leaving Toon.
Steven Taylor – sad to see Shay leave
Steven talked about Shay Given leaving Newcastle today in the Evening Chronicle:
“Shay served the club very well.” “And he was a fantastic servant to the club.
“We are sad to see him go but life has to go on at Newcastle United.”
Shay Given has been a great servant at the club and it’s a bit of a black eye for the Newcastle club, that we couldn’t hold onto our best and most loyal player.
We wish Shay the very best at Manchester City, and we’ll see him back at St. James’ Park next season, if both City and Newcastle remain in the Premier League.
But Shay wanted to leave and when the club couldn’t persuade him to stay with an improved 6 year deal, there’s little else the club could do, let’s be honest.
But life goes on and one of the reasons we don’t need to replace Shay, is that we have Steve Harper to take over, and it’s a terrific chance for Steve, who has waited in Shay’s shadow for so long.
We also have to thank our Youth policy that there’s no reason to buy another keeper, because we have two great young goalkeepers in Tim Krul and Fraser Forster in the wings.
And now Tim Krul will also see a chance for himself at Newcastle, and will not want to leave the club in the summer.
So that’s a positive side to look at the leaving of Shay Given, goalkeeper supreme.
Given played 463 times, and he’ll be remembered forever as one of the greatest footballers ever to play for Newcastle United.
