Taylor So Sorry To See Shay Leave – Like The Rest Of Us

Most fans are more than glad to see the back of Charles N’Zogbia, but it was a very different story with the great Shay Given leaving Toon.

Steven Taylor – sad to see Shay leave

Steven talked about Shay Given leaving Newcastle today in the Evening Chronicle:

“Shay served the club very well.” “And he was a fantastic servant to the club.

“We are sad to see him go but life has to go on at Newcastle United.”

Shay Given has been a great servant at the club and it’s a bit of a black eye for the Newcastle club,  that we couldn’t hold onto our best and most loyal player.

We wish Shay the very best at Manchester City, and we’ll see him back at St. James’ Park next season, if both City and Newcastle remain in the Premier League.

But Shay wanted to leave and when the club couldn’t persuade him to stay with an improved 6 year deal, there’s little else the club could do, let’s be honest.

But life goes on and one of the reasons we don’t need to replace Shay, is that we have Steve Harper to take over, and it’s a terrific chance for Steve, who has waited in Shay’s shadow for so long.

We also have to thank our Youth policy that there’s no reason to buy another keeper, because we have two great young goalkeepers in Tim Krul and Fraser Forster in the wings.

And now Tim Krul will also see a chance for himself at Newcastle, and will not want to leave the club in the summer.

So that’s a positive side to look at the leaving of Shay Given, goalkeeper supreme.

Given played 463 times, and he’ll be remembered forever as one of the greatest footballers  ever to play for Newcastle United.

Shay was a legend for the toon but I hope it all goes pear shaped at Man City and they get relegated instead of us, unlikely but funny if it happened.

Sorry but I can’t understand why people persist with Smith, some people are obviously remembering the Leeds days when he seemed quite good, Fergies not a bad judge and no way would he have sold him if he thought he’d be useful in any way shape or form, his displays for the toon have proved fergie right – he must be laughing everytime he thinks of the 7 million we paid for the donkey (nice lad though)

Jonas is suspended, so we’ll probably end up with Duff on the left…

People say the squad is thin and criticise for not getting more players in. Yeah, more players in would have been great, but when you think that we have 13 players to come back from injury, add 13 more players (quite good ones as well) to the squad we have now, and it’s not so bad.

BTW – Jonas is suspended for reaching 5 yellow cards and will serve out a one match ban while we play the baggies – stop putting him in your teams

The only question I want answered from the whole Given transfer is
Why didn’t we get Johnson in return?

hey you lot, I know it isn’t TOON news but we were linked with him, albeit a while back. News just in.

………….The FA’s Director of Communications, Adrian Bevington, has spoken to the Russian media about the Andrei Arshavin deal:

“Yes, it’s true, the transfer is in doubt. There is a chance it will take us 2-3 days. The odds are 50/50. If the transfer is declared invalid, Arshavin will be returned to Zenit. We can’t rule this out. I don’t think that would be a severe ruling: both clubs had a lot of time to complete it during the window.”

……………………fodgy duckers. It’s blatently obvious they were still negotiating after 5pm last night. Hope they don’t get him.

…On a TOON note, I’d play Martins and Lovenkrands upfront. Viduka won’t be back in time and Shola is 5hite.

Goodbye Shay thanks for the great service to the club. Thanks Steve Harper for showing more loyalty to NUFC and stepping forward to help us when the going’s getting tough. Steve’s a little rusty but IMO his distribution was ten times better than Shay’s. How many times did he quickly throw the ball out to the wings trying to get our forwards away. Shay hold the ball looks behind on both sides (looking for Deon Dublin) giving the opposition time to get organised and then lump it up the middle (looking for Big Al). I think we got a good deal for £8m.

Obviously Shay has had enough of the chaos and insanity surrounding this club and good luck to him, he served us well.
Yeah not unhappy to see Nolan, but to loose Given and N`Zogbia, for the (not so) Great Dane and Ryan Taylor, is galling, no matter how much lipstick Joe puts on the deal.
    It`s depressing.

shay was a top 5 in the world of goalkeepers & we`ll miss him. But now Harper can finally get the chance he deserves & maybe even snatch that sought for place in international competitions.

I think people here don`t have a clue of Lovenkrands potential & skill. He is fast & made breakthrough with Rangers as a leftwinger & deadball player. Now just cause he hasn`t played much for Shalke is due to their attacking options that honestly is far better than ours at the moment.
Although we lacked a creative midfield we now have Nolan, Barton, Duff & Taylor… All players with heart & skills to lay down any opponent for the rest of the season if combined with injury free Owen & Oba. & some other tactical moves is necessary against the better teams,we have to play away football at home to save points.
I don`t care if it looks like sh¤%te, we have to take necessary points to stay alive, especially with a mug coach like JK.
Let`s hope that Amdani saves us this summer though…

Stop it please! that old line about Shay not being able to distribute the ball, its worn thin by know nothings like yourself.
Harper is what he is a decent goalie, but he`s no Shay Given and if he was he would have played more often ,not just when Shay was injured and under every manager we have had recently.
So dont embarass yourself by repeating the theme.

This is a fact. Given did not want to leave, they offered him a new contract last week but on the same wages, he is only the 10th highest earner at the club(30k per week)- JK has been lying (as he often does) when he says they tried to keep Given. The club realised they could make money by selling Given whereas they would get virtually nothing for Harper. Its all about asset stripping and making a fast buck- it what Ashley does in his normal day to day business – its all we are to him.
